GONE TO FORT DELAWAEE.-A number Of
rebels who were captured in the vicinity of
Chambersbnrg, left here to-day, en route for
Fort Delaware. They were in charge of a
squad of Capt. Gibson's Minute Men, of this
oity, who were detailed to escort the ‘! lohu-
Mee" to the Fort.
LOCrSTB. —A few locusts have made their
appearance in this vicinity. Probably thej
are the "advance " of the mighty army of
their kind that will invade this portion of the
State in 1868. Many of our readers doubtless
remember the " occupation" of our State by
the locusts, in IS6I.

BEssucah.—The following is a condensed re
port of the route of the fire in Chambersburg.
Persona who are acquainted there can at once
fond some conception Of the immensity of the
conflagration:
The whole number of houses burned is two
hundred and sixty-Seveh. 'Birery hotel in the
town,
without a single exception, was burned,
with all their contents; every drug store, ani
every physician's office, with all their drugs,
and every private, as well as public library in
the town, whether law or medical, or what
ever else.
The Chambersburg Bank was burned, and
also the Academy. The hank had, however,
the day before, sent away their funds and
books. They 108E04:M1y-their bank building.
Th.; warehouse belonging to the railroad
depot was burned. The depot itself is unin
jured, and no damage_was done to the track
of the road. • •
None of the churches were burned, with the
exception of the Associate' Reformed and
Bethel,Churches, on Second street, between
Market and Queen streets.
From the Franklin , , railroad, on - Market
street, every house has been burned on both
sides of the street, up to Sohn McDowell's
property ; across the creek; with the exception
of the residence of the Misses Denny.
. On Main street every house is burned from
the Falling Spring to the residence • of Fred
,erick Spahr; every building on Queen street
from Brown's tavern west to' the Creek, and
the entire south side of. Second street.
In other localities, and in all parts of the
town, blocks of eight and 'ten buildings have
been burned. In many cases the houses
were rifled of their valuables before being
fired. • ..
• Many residences of prorninent citizens in
the outskirts of the town wore burned, that
:of Col. hkgittre. Mont , others, with his sta
4es and out-houses.
Among .104 valuable property burned is
Eyster's large flouring mill, Lockhart it
Howe's mill, Washabaugh's brewery, Lud
wig's brewery and many others. • -
On Main street the fire was started at Ben
jamin Chambers' residence, on the west side
of the street.. Mire° folltinving are some of the
principal enterers on this street whose res
idences have been burned :

Sinith's property,„john Schofield's, Matthew
Welsh's, estate of lokeph Byster, the Female
Serhipary, DNA& drugstore, James Watson's
mansion and store, William Gelwick's, John
Nole's, the Franklin . House, the Chambers
burg Bank, Gilmore's corner, Miller's stove
and tin store, Spangler's drug store, Dr. Rich
ard's office and dwelling.
Burkhart and Henchy's - store and dwelling,
the post office, Auchenbaugh's jewelry store,
Mrs. Bishop's establishment, the residence of
J. George Wolfe, Judge Black's store, Dr.
Hamilton's office, Jacob Hutton, J. McClin
tock, Lewis Shoemaker, Simon Greenwa4,
the entire property of the Heiser estate; and
two properties of J. A. Eyster.
- The fire then skipped the residence of, Dr.
Fisher and two other dWellings. From Lud
*ig's np to the next corner every building is
burned.

the sufferers of the late fire in Chambersburg.
The meeting, was called to order by A.J.
Herr, Esq., by nominating Gov. A. G. Curtin
as President.
On motion, A. J. Herr was selected as Sec
retary.
On the request of Gov. Curtin, A. J. Herr,
Esq., stated the object of the meeting, and
described the precent sufferings of the eitzens
of Chambersburg in a few stirring remarks.
Mr. Thomas C. MacDowell followed income
remarks to the point.
John O. Kunkel, Esq., offered the following
resolutions, prefacing them with proper state
ments :
Resolved, That a committee of three per
sons from each ward of the city be appointed
to solicit subscriptions for the sufferers by
the destruction of Chambersburg, with power
to appoint sub-committees.
Resolved, That a committee of three per
sons be appointed to receive from the ward
committees, and pay over to the proper au
thorities of Chambersburg, the funds raised
in this city to relieve the necessities of our
fellow-citizens of. Chambersburg who are ob
jects of charity.
After being fully discussed by Hon. John
J. Pearson, and Mr. Wilson and others, they
were unanimously adopted.
The chair appointed the following gentle
men under the first resolution;

and Weidman Forster.
Second Ward—H. Murray Graydon, Chas.
Ronmfort and Daniel Eppley.

The following • gentlemen were appointed

A subscription paper was at once started in
(the meeting, and nearly ten thousaad dollars
were immediately subscribed by the citizens
present.
