Soldiers' Monument —The managers of the

at that place, and finally adopted one furnished
by Mr. J. G. Batterson, of Hartford, Conn.
He is the architect whose design for a monu

fell in Mexico, was adopted by the Legislature
of Pennsylvania some years ago, and a con

but which afterwards failed for want of an

Some of the principal features and combi

FOB CONG.BES6.—In the selection of a reson
to represent the interest of a people in elle
national hall of legislation great care should
be observed at this time. While the minds
of all good and loyal men are absorbed ii the
maintenance of our Government and the info
preSsion of the rebellion, party preference
and rules should give way and submit 'in the
choice of a candidate for the more sacred pur
pose of supporting our country. The ac
quaintance of a life time with our fellow cid
n, Josiah Espy, permits us to urge his see.
lection and endorse his integrity and disposi
tion to be useful. The Congressional district
in the election of Mr. Espy would have a care
ful watchman of their interest at the seat of
Government, and we feel persuaded that all
those who vote for Josiah Espy, and purchase
dry goods at the cheap store of C. L. Bow
man, No. 1, corner of Front and Market Ste.,
will have discharged their duty to the country,:
and guarded the interests of selves and fami
