Ivraxn TELEGE.4I , II LINE. - - We learn
from
the New York papers that Mr. J. N. Wool,
manager of the Inland or Independent Tele
graph Line, has had an interview with the
President and Secretary of War, and expects
the line and operators to be released at once.
The Washington operators have been released.
No doubt the line will be in working order in
a clay or two. The operators of the Harris
burg office left for Washington at noon to-day,
in charge of Lieutenant Gibson. It is be
lievd that the company will be entirely exon
orated from all connection with the - sending
of the bogus proclamation published in New
York. No doubt the whole thing was manu
factured in the latter city.

Tnotrr FISHING is now the "sport" which is
attracting the attention of our men of leisure,
who daily devote :themselves to the practice
of their skill in angling for the "speckled
beauties." ' But what would old Isaak Walton
say, were it possible for him to return among
his disciples, were he informed that OHS : of
his followers, who professes to be "some on a
fly," had actually made his arrangemen.to

he discovered that he had forgotten his "reel."

MINISTEIIni'O ANGELS. -- The Washington
Chronicle, of yesterday, thus notices the deeds
of the ladies in the hospitals there: "On the
first arrival of sick and wounded to our. hos
pitals, hundreds of ladies, far more than could
have been useful, volunteered their services
as nurses, helpers in any capacity. Some of
these !patriotic ladies went quietly:into the
hospitals and proceeded at once to dress the
wounds, assuage the griefs, and cheer the
hearts of the stricken ones. One of ,these
angels of mercy, among others, is misa Ificyl
lan, the patriotic daughter of the Hon. George
W. M'Lellan, Assistant Postmaster General.
She cheerfully abandons the elegant comforts
of home, and all the gay charms of socieff- at

DAUPHIN COUNTY SOLDIERS IN BATTLE -
Casualties in a Middletown Compang.--"The
Middletown Journal, of yesterday, says: Com
pany G, from this place, attached to the Gth
Penu'a Res. Corps, was in the late bloody
battles, and suffered severely, it being almost
cut to pieces. NO'troops in the army have
seen harder service than this company, and
they always behaved nobly in every engage
ment, doing credit to the Army of the Poto
mac as well as to our town. But we are again
called upon to record the loss of three as
brave and as good soldiers as ever went forth
to meet the enemy, while the list of wounded
is fearfully large, in proportion to the num
ber engaged. Lieut. Ashenfelter sends the
following list of killed, wounded and missing
up to the 13th of May:
Capt. Charles Allen, wounded.
George Horn, First Sergeant, killed.
Daniel Smith, killed.

Tux. DausicAßD, alsm Cousin Jos.—The ex

Hall will this evening produce the very thrill
ing play, entitled Tau P.IMNICARD, in which
the whole troupe . will appear. This is a piece .
that every person should-'witness,'it it cal

impressing upon the audience, vividly, all the
horrors and evils of drunkenness, in a life
picture. We would advise our readers to go`
to the hall this evening. The entertainment
will conclude with:- the laughable afterpiece,
entitled "Cousin Toe,"_ in which that distin

him."
The Drunkard has been played by Dubois'
troupe in all the principal cities in this coun
try, including New:York, Philadelphia, Wash

witnessed by the largtat audiences that ever
assembled in the theatres of those cities. The
papers are loud in their praise of the com

rendered upon the stage. Again we say, go
to Brant's Ball, and see the Drunkard to-s
night.

THE PUBLIC GROUNDS.-31r. Editor:—l no
ticed in the columns of the TELEGRAPH of
Tuesday evening last, an article relating to
- the Public 'Grounds, which called the atten
tion of the "powers that be," to the propriety
of immediately cutting the grass on said
grounds, and of repeating said cutting every
two or three weeks. I hope the Superin
tendent of •Public Grounds will not adopt this
absurd idea, arid have our now beautiful
grounds constantly presenting the appearance
of ,a repulsive stubble-field. The people are
not hostilelto the fragrant and beautiful clover
blossoms, .which will soon lend their sweet
ness to the evening air. Let the Superin
tendent; of Public Ground.s adopt, the policy
pursued heretofore, and not cut the grass un
til time ; and avoid the folly and
expense of cutting it so often.

prayer, held each* evening this week? Why
do they absent themselves from them? Have

is the plea; but what will business be worth
if our enemies triumph? Far better to close
the places of business for ors: BOMI for a few
days, and let ALL call mightily upon God, as
did the Niuevites. Then might we truly ex

army and - Nation as would cause the world to
look with wonder and exclaim with us, "0 God
not unto us, ;but unto thy name give glory,

THE Paris Fasuroxs.—" It is a little singu

which liars not risen in proportion to the rise
in gold, or the depreciation of paper money,
are cloaks, mantillas and bonnets. These in
dispensable articles of ladies' wear, although
Made of finer and more costly material than
ever, cost but a trifle more than they did three
yetres ago, so that there is no excuse on the
score of economy for any lady to wear an un
fashionable'• bonnet, or a worn-out sack or

Tln•Paris lives the devil, the Frenchmen say,
Hem° there the devir often is to pay;

But this is one of the ills that husbands must

In pity for those who have "nothing to wear."
But, reader, let me ask you, good lack,
Do you fancy an ancient bonnet or sack?
Can you complacently look upon Fashion's
outraged laws,
Without any just or unreasonable cause?
Or can you abide anything of slatternly wear,
By those who have plenty, and money to spare?
Never! Hence America the gauntlet of fashion
has hurled.
At London, at Paris, and the whole fashiona

Go look in at Mrs. Mayer's, No. 13 Market

Decorated with feathers, ribbons and flowers,
To remind one of rural groves and shady

Pine silk mantillas at the little figure "four,"
Cloaks and Circular; seven dollars to nearly

Gore and trail skirts at any price you choose,
And ribbons which rival the rainbow's hues.
All intermediate shades, from mourning black
to bridal whites,
'Which knock all other stores higher than so

To guard against Old Sol's fiercest fiery rays.
Silks, Velvets , Scarfs, Ties, Steel Clasps and
