MAY 19, 1980,—Kllea S., mt. 28, single, never war very

knee joints and of the hands. She has now doh
pain in her shoulders, and her knuckles are very tender,
red and painful • both hands are affected, but the right
is most so. This , then, is a case of acute rheumatism, or,
as It to now flaabionably called, rheumatic fever. It is a
well remarked typical case We will carefully watch the
case, and from time to time call your attention to the vans.
oats symptoms which present themeelvet. lay chief °Mee
in bringing her before you now, is to call attentiou to a
remedy which has recently been recommended in the
treatment of rheumatism. I mean propylantine. Dr
awenarine, of St. Petersburg, recommends it in the
bighead terms, having derived great oenefit from its use
in 260 easise which Came under his care. Various com
mendatory testimonials respecting it have appeared in
our journals, and I propose therefore to give it another
trial I moat confess lam always incredulous as to the
worth of new remedies, which are vaunted as specifies ,
but this comes to us recommended so highly, the , w.
are bound to give It a trial

Mar 26, 1880.—ThIs is the case of acute rheumatism

age. Has had oomutional rheumatic pains, but not so as
to keep his bed, until eight days mo. The .palne began
in his right Mum, subsequently affected the left knee., and
later, the Joints or the upper extremities. These Joints
are all swollen, tense anti tender. His tongue is furred ;
his skin, at present dry, though there has been much
sweating. Ms poise is tall and strong, and about 90.
Re time Dow used propyinunne tbr twenty-four hours.
This gentleman is what may be called a ugly typical
case of acute rheumatism. There was expiate to cold
and wet, and this exposure is followed by a feeling of
aoldnm, severe articular pain, beginning, as it usually
dont, in the lower joints. There is fever and the profuse
sweating, so generally attlendant on acute rheumatism.
I did net bring this patient before you with the 1 n te n _
ton of giving yona lecture en all the points connected
with rimmitbuli, but to again give a trial to the
new remedy we are tensing, and to exhibit to you this
typical case, as I Lava called It, t h an which there co uld
not be a fairer opportunity for testing the medicine in
question. We are, therefore, 'molding the use of all
other medicines, even anodynes, QUO there may be no

Jusni9, 11180.—The next of our convalasonts is the
ease of atmterkeumatism before you at our clinic of May
Mb, which I then called a typical case, and which ii
was remarked was a fair opportunity for testing the
worth of our new remedy, It was therefore steadily
given hi three grain doses every two hours for four days
The patiently's got along very nice.% Ind Is now able to
walk about, as you see. Ido not hesitate to aly that I
have seven seen as severe a case of acute rheumatism
so 11004 restored to health as this man has been, and
withetit being prepared to decide positive by as to the val
ue of the remedy: we have used, I feel bound to eta te
that in the eases in which we have tried the Chloride o
eroprataine, the patients have regained their boa nb
much earlier than under tits treatment ordinarily per

and report the results.
