Star 19, 1880,—Elles S., let. 28, single, never was very
etrong. Two years ago she had an attack of acute rheum
lism, from which she was confined to her bed for two weeks
sod subseeentay from &relapse fer four more. She has been
' well eines then Ull last Satnr day, while engaged in house
cleaning, she took cold, had pain in her back, felt cold
hot had no decided chill. Two days later her anti
gau ico swell, which was followed by swelling
knee joints and of the hands. She has now u
pain in her shoulders, and her knuckles are very tender,
rod and painful ; both hands are affected, but the right
is most so. This, then, is a case of acute rheumatism, or,
18 it Is now fashionably called, rheumatic fever. It is a
well remarked typical ease We will carefully watch the
case, and from time to Lime call your attention to the vari
oussymptoms which present themselves. My chief object
In brining her before you now, is to call attention to a
remedy which hes recently been recommended in the
treatment of rheumatism. I mean propyialtehic. Dr.
kwenariue, of St. Petersburg, recommends it in the
highest terms, having derived great benefit from Its use
10 260 cases which came under his care. Various cow.
mandatory testimonials respecting it have appeared in
our journals, and I propose therefore to give It another
trial. Incest confess lam always incredulous as to the
worth of new remedies, which are vaunted as specifies ,
but this comes to us recommended so highly, that we
are hound to give it a trial.
Mar 23,1880.—1 will now exhibit to you the patient fee
when I prescribed Propylamine, and was then labor
ng under an attack of acute rheumatism. She has
Seedily taken it in doses of three grains every two hours

ound her much more comfortable, better than oho ex

Here is another patient who wee placed on the use of
_la mine Medicine on Sunday last ; she has long been
queering ltom o bromic rheumatitun, and I Mend her at
that time with an acute attack supervening upon her
chronic affection. The wrists and knuckles were muck
swollen and tense. She took the cffloride of Prowls

In this case it has seemed to be followed by very sat.

He lea seaman , mt. 26, who was admitted a few da

to keep his bed, until eight days Ago. The pain/ began
in his right knee, subsequently affected the left knee, and
later, the Pointe of the upper extremities. These Joint'
are all swollestOeuse and tender. His tongue is furred ;
his akin, at present dry, though there has been much
sweating. His puha le hill and strong, and about PO.
He - has now used propylamlue ibr twenty-four hours.
This gentleman is what may be eaUed a 'trimly typical

and wet, and this exposure Is followed by a feeling of
coldness, sevens articular pain, beginning, as It usually
does, In the lower joints. There is fever and the profuse
