rendering marriage, &c., Impossible.
Young Men
Nspecially, who have become the victims of Solitary
Vice, that dreadful and destructive habit which annual
ly sweeps to an untimely grave thousands of Young
Men of the most exalted talents and brilliant intellect,
who might otherwise have entranced listening Senates
with the thunders of eloquence or waked to ecstasy the
living lyre, may call with fall confidence.

Dr. Johnson,
Member of the Ito:, al College of Burgeons, London, Grad
uate Glom Ode of the moot eminent Colleges in the United
states, and the greater part of whose lite has been spoilt
in the hospitals of London, Paris, Philadelphia and idea -
where, has effected some of the most astonishing ogee
that were ever known • many troubled with ringing
the head and ears when asleep, great nervousness, being
alarmed at sudden sounds, bashfulness, with frequent
blushing, attended bometimes with derangement of mind
were cured immediately.
Dr. J. addresses all those who have injured themselves
by improper indulge ce and solitary habits, which ruin
both body and mind, unfitting them for either business,
study, society or marriage.
These are some of the sail end melaneholly effects pro
duced by early habits of youth, viz : Weakness of. the
Back and Limbs, Pains in the Bead, Dimness f Sight,
LOU of Muscular Power,Palpitation of the heart, Lys
pepey, Nervous irratibily, Derangement of tbelhgeetive
Functions, General Debility, Symptoms of Consumption,
kut
sitintaiLv.—The fearful elate on the mind are much
to be dreaded—Loss of Memory, Confusion of ideas , De
pression of Spirits, Evil Forbodmigs, Aversion to Society,
Serf Distrust, Love of holitude, Timidity, to., are some- of
the evils produced.
Timmins of persons of all ages can now judge what
is the cause of their declining health, losing their vigor,
becoming weak, pale, nervous and emaciated, having a
singular appearance about the eyes, cough and symptoma
of eonsumption.
Young Yon .• :
Who have injured themseiggs by a certain practice in
dinged in when alone, a habit frequently learned from
evil companions, or alai:tool, the effects of which are
nightly felt, even when asleep, and if not cured renders
marriage impassible, and destroys both mind and body,
should apply immediately.
What a pity that a young man, the `
hope of his coun
try, the darling of his parente r should - be snatched trom
all prospects and enjoyments of life, by the consequcuice
of deviating from the path of nature and Indulging in a
certain secret habit,
.Such pereonS MUST, before contem

reflect that a sound mind and lbody are,the most nacos
easy requisites to pFomot• connubial happiness. Indeed,
without these, the journey thrOugh life becomes a weary
pil g rim a ge ; this prospect hourly darkens to the view ;
the mind becomes shadowed with despair and filled with
the melancholly re&clion that the happiness of anottlei
becomes blighted with our own.
When the- misguided and Imprudent votary of pleasare
finds that he has imbibed the seeds of this painful die,
ease, it too often hapena that an tli-timed sense of shame
or dread of discovery, deters him from applying to those
who, from education and respectability, can alone be
friend him, delaying till the constitutional pyroptoms
this herr d disease make their appearance, such as ul
oersted sore throat, disetused nose, nooturnal pains !le
the bead and limbs, dimness of eight, dullness, nodes 'on
the shin hopes and arms, blotches on the brad, face and
extremities, progressing with frightful .rapidity, till at
last the palate of the mouth or the banes of the nose Alil
and the victim of this awful disease become, a horrid
object of commiseration, till death puts • period to hie
dreadful sufferings, by sending hJm.SO " that Undbrodv

From Late Richmond Papers
Some of our cotemporaries, we pert, lye, have
come Into possession of another supply of Rich
mond papers, coming down to the 18th inst.
The following paragraphs are copied from themt
The most the public heard of the Treasury
Department during the recent session of Con
gress was a list of replies of the Secretary to re
posted resolntions demanding explanations of
the extraordinary delays in the different
branches of his department. It appeared that
the soldiers could not be paid, unless at inter
vals of five or six months, because the Secre
tary could not make money fast enough ; and
the excuse Was that the Secretary had sent off
all the engraving apparatus of the Department
to Columbeefßouth Carolina, at the time the
Government was inicking up its traps to leave
Riectinmd to McClellan, (an impeachment
*Mak it illit4l denied until the unfortunate
SkrebirkiblAbbed) ' It is nowrdisoovered that
the - Second Auditor's offic e the number of
soldiers' claims on file for adjustment Is two
thousand nine hundred ; and the excuse for this
inattention to the public business is that the
Auditor was also delayed by the removal of the
muster and pay rolls out of Richmond, when
the authorities were preparing to evacuate in
June last. These historical developments,which
have been made through the Secretary of the
Treasury, of the intended evacuation of Rich
mond, are quite interesting, but we fear that
in some quarters we will not be thanked for
them.—Braminer.
Gen. Earl Van Dorn has been superseded in
the command of the army recently engaged
with the enemy at Corinth, and Major General
J. C. Pemberton assigned to the command of
that portion of our forces. We are not advis
ed whether the loss of the battle at Corinth
had anything to do with the change of com
manders.
In view of the immense preparations of the
North for Southern subjugation, it is the evi
dent duty of the Government to avail itself of
all the means of resistance which Congrese has
placed.in its hands. The forces authorised by
the late extension of the conscript law, if nor
called into the field, ought at least to be thor
oughly organized and regularly drilled, , so as
to be fully prepared for the time when their
presence in the field will be required. The im
portance of this must have suggested itself al
ready to the Government, although we ehould
like to see some indications of the fact. The
war is assuming more formidable proportions
every day,and it behooves us to neglect nothing,
to look ahead and call Into requisition every
element of strength.—Dispgleh.
In the Hanle of Representatives, on the 2d
instant, Mr..B'ooteintroduced a set of resolu
tions, which were, on his motion ordered to be
printed and referred to the Committee on For
eign Affairs, the title of which were as. follows:
" Joint resolutions recognising the practical
neutrality of the Stat e s of California and Oregon
and of the Territories of Washington and Neva
da, suggesting the advantages which would re
sult to the people thereof upon an immediate
assertion on their part of their independence of
the United States, and proposing, upon their
so, doing, the formation of a league, offensive
and defensive, between the States and Territo
ries and the onfederate States of America "
According to the official , report laid before the
rebel Congress the rebel debt on the lst of Au
gust was $847,272,958, and the appropriations
required up to the let of January next are
$209,650,487—making a total of 066,828,445.
It is supposed that Congress will,be under the
necessity of providing another war tax.
