Red tape is a ter rible nuisance when it thus ties up food, cloth ing and medicine almost within reach of the very men for whom they were intended. The gratuitous supplies above alluded to, however, are very wisely kept beyond the reach of all ” requisitions in strict accordance with the army regulations." All that is needed to ren der them at once available, is a line from the surgeon of any of the hospitals, which at once secures whatever may be needed, that can he found upon the shelves. Could those who have forwarded these gifts witness the gratitude with which they are re ceived, and hear the touching expressions that fall from the lips of these sufferers, they would feel a thousand times repaid for all the efforts they have put forth in their behalf. In addition to the above mentioned assorted supplies, there are yet on hand several wagon loads of unopened boxes, which will shortly be examined and their contents arranged as above. The perishable portion will be first disposed ef, and the balance preserved for use during the winter. The above room in the house of Dr. Bailey le also held by the Ladies' Relief Association, and the articles there deposited are distributed directly by the ladies during their periodical visits to the hospitals. Arrangements were being made for sending a large portion of these supplies, under the care of a judicious person, to be distributed among the farm houses in the vicinity of the late bat tle field ; but upon careful inquiry, this halt been found to be unnecessary, as appears front' the following letter : Haagasrowa, Sept. 29, 1862. Dear Brother :—Witen, I sent a recent dis patch, I thought we needed blankets, ihirte and drawers, but I have this day visited a num ber of the hospitals in the farm houses around the battle field, and learn that the supply of these articles is ample. Other things are in abundance. Great quantities of almost every thing are sent by the various associations in different states, and from the surrounding country.
