Details of the Allegheny Arsenal
Explosion.
A RECAPITULATION OF HORRORS
The TELEGRAPH yesterday morning, barely
announced e the fact of rt terrible explosion which
tookplace in the AlleglienyArsensl on Wednes
day. By the Pittsburg Dispatch of yesterday'we
have full particulars of the horrible occurrence,
from which we condense the following account:
Atter the explosion, the bUilding took Bre,
and those of the girls confined by the fragments
were burned to death. A number were doubt
less killed by the 'explosion, and their bodies
consumed. Where the heat was the greatest,
nothing remained of the bodies bat the whiten
ed bones.
Thousands of people collected on the groncids,
and all were horror stricken at the scene: The
charred remains of the victims were lying about
in rows id several directions. A. number were
dying of their injuries and removed by friends.
We noticed two bodies 'which had been blown
from the bnilding,..both so horribly mutilated,
as indeed were all that we saw, wick. bat one
exception, as to render ideutification impossi
ble. We saw the bodies of two' young women
wno evidently, lad been burned alive in each
other's arms, I one place we counted forty
seven bodies, in another ten, and turn where
you would, blackened trimks of bOdies—piles
of roasted flesh—met your gaze, flare and
there lay the fragment of a skull, pr someother
part of a body. . . .
Two girls were 'conversing near' where a
body lay. One of them had escaped' uninjured
—tile other was in search of 'a sister;and in
describing her, said_ she wore a red ress. A
gentleman standing near , pointing to a frag
ment of a `dress hanging upOLI a tree, said:
"Was it like. that-f" The girl looked' up, saw
the fragment, and a loud, scream from her told
us that she identified it as part of the dress
worn by her sister.
We came to a spot where two girls were dy
ing. Both were terribly burned. One asked
if she was really going -to die, and desired' a
priest to be sent lox., She appeared less injur
ed than her felloi-sufferer, and spoke In a loud
and clear voice ; but death soon came, Her
companion was remoied"from the grotind,
still.alive, but beyond recovery.
Anxious relatives flittrd hurriedly about the
grouods, gaging upon the crisped. remains, in.
the hope of discovering some Mark of Identifi
cation, Many of the hodies were encircled

session of Alderman Taylor, of the Fifth ward.
In one of the charred bodies we noticed
eleven bullets, protruding through the flesh ;
in another we noticed nine bullets. • -
Scattered all about the grounds were frag-

returned he found that she had disappeared.
