AT A uzurisa of the citizens of the Fourth

was unanimously resolved to form a military
company under the recent proclamation of Gov
ernor Curtin. All loyal end patriotic citizens
of the Fourth Ward favorable to this move
ment will please be in attendance at the Brady
House this (Friday) evening, at 7 o'clock.

RMONSIS TO TS= 00911111NOR'S PROCLAMATION.
—A call has been issued from every ward in the
city, for meetings in such wards, in order to
take the initial steps in the organization of wm
punka, at once to engage in drilling, and to
make such advances in military discipline as
will give a practical operation to the proclama
tion of Gov. Curtin. Those calls indicate the
earnest feeling of the people, and we trust that
the enthusiasm will be increased, until every
man able to mark time or shoulder a musket,
is thoroughly disciplined and flt for duty at a
moment's warning.
How TO RISPOND TO TUC GOTIROR'S PRO
OLMATION.—The citizens of each ward and
othe sub-divisions of the county should at once
met together for organization. Thirty-two
men are sufficient to form a beats for a com
pezy under the act of 1868. They should pro
oeed at once to elect officers and report to the
Brigade Inspector of the county ; each county
forming a brigade. The Brigade Inspector will
inspect the company and furnish the arms. If
the proper energy is displayed the elapse of ten
days will find Dauphin county with a brigade
ready to defend its homes.
Tax ArrDiallos Taw:lr.—Recruits for this fa
vorite arm of the service are coming in with
commendable alacrity, and the prospects are
that the battalion ordered to be recruited in
this State will be filled in less than a week.--
We observe that Will O. Zeller, Lance Corporal
of the troop, has taken a room at Colder's
Stage office, Market Square, in this city, where
intelligent and respectable young men who
wish to join the Troop can get all the informa
tion desired. Service in this troop is justly
esteemed as the most desirable in the army,
and now that the draft is a flied fact, young
man who possess the necessary qualifications,
shorlld"lnake its point to hunt up Corporal
Pella Instantly, ae his stay in this city is Um.
lied to s few days.
LO6T.-A trunk marked Lieut. WILLIAM H.
COCHRAN, was put on one of the hacks that
run between this city and Camp Curtin, to be
left at the May House on the Ridge Road, but up
to the present time has not been left there. A
liberal reward will be paid for the recovery of
the trunk or for any information that may lead
to its recovery. For further particulars apply
at the M4y House.

A EPBaLtr. surrrura of the Ladies' Union Relief
Association is called on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 4
o'clock, p. m. in the North Ward School room,
in order that the Executive Committee may re
port progress. It is important, that the atten
dance should be general, that the whole Asso
ciation may fully understand the work they .
have undertaken.
The Elective Committee will meet at 3
o'clock in the same place.

. THE OLD Exaturarrs.—Capt. Dodge, superin
tendent of the recruiting service of this state,
is forwarding at least one hundred recruits per
day for the old Pennsylvania regiments now in
the service. We notice to-day, in front of
Capt. Dodge's office, a battalion of two hun
dred and sixteen as fine looking men as ever
were mustered Into the service, being sworn in
for the old regiments. Or course these recruits
are not enumerated in those supplied to new
regiments, of which about thirty thousand
have left the state on the new call. Let it not
be forgotten, then, that Pennsylvania, at this
military post, is furnishing one hundred men for
the old regiments every day !

ARRIETID roa ATTIMPIERG YO EsoAPa ma
Daarr.—lt seems that some of the good peo
ple of loyal Maryland do not relish the idea of
entering the federal army for the purpose of
assisting to put down the rebellion. Those
ligto are averse to such service, imagine that,
if they escape from the limits of the state of
their residence, they are freed from the draft.
In this they are mistaken, se the following in
cident shows. Charles Johnson and John
Cranson, belonging to the State of Maryland,
were arrested, on Wedr&day last, by D. S.
Manger, at Hanover, YnWounty, and brought
to this dty, the nearest military depot, where
they were delivered to Captain Dodge, who, as
commanding officer at this post, at once put
them to military service. These birds of
passage are now at Camp Curtin, where the
cool breeze from the Susquehanna will have an
influence of arousing their ardor for the coun
try, and reminding them of their folly in at
tempting to escape the draft.
Wane on& mum are busily employed in
contributing articles for the supply of military
hospitals at a distance, it would be well to con
sider the necessity of preparing a quantity of
the same articles for use at home. We notice
that the people in other localities are doing
this, and we were pleased, recently, to hear of
individuals who are making preparations for
some purpose in this city. In Philadelphia
they are preparing the churches for the recep
tion
of the wounded, as the hospitals in that
locality are full. As Harrisburg is situated at
a central point, and of course easier of access
from Washington than Philadelphia, we cannot
tell how soon a large number of wounded may
be brought to our midst. We cannot tell when
a battle may maim its thousands and send the
mangled and torn soldiers for succor and care,
to the towns and cites of the state. This is a
serious fact and a dreadful anticipation. Let
our people act upon the suggestion to pre
pare for such emergencies. Every housekeep
er can manufacture lint—they can all prepare
bandages—they can all see to it, that every
description of hospital stores for the relief of
the sick and wounded are in readiness for any
demand that may be made upon the people of
Harrisburg.
INTRRISPING TO Somesas AND THEIR FRIENDS.
We have received a number of letters of inquiry
relative to the pay of soldiers in the hospitals
or on furlough. All ouch letters should be ad
dressed to the Paymaster General ; inquiries
relating to the pay of deceased teamsters or
other employees of the Quartermaster's depart
went, or for the pay of horses killed or lost in
the service, to the Third Auditor ; and relating
to the pay and bounty of persons in the marine
or naval service, to the Fourth Auditor. The
Government pays all postage; on such business
communications, whether received or transmit
ted by this office. EZRA B. FRINCH,
Second Auditor of the Treasury Department.

Dimino. the past week there has been no
abatement of attraction at the Gaiety. Indeed,
the man who holds the manager! 1 reins is not
likely to let the public avoid his establishment.
Mr. Edwards is now permanently located here.
He is an acquisition. He never does things
by halves. What he undertakes to do, he dues
with a determination to distance all rivalry.
The company he has gathered at the Gaiety
must be enormously expensive, but the mana
ger is long-sighted enough to see that his liberal
investment will pay. The orchestra Is full and
efficient, and its music contributes very largely
to the enjoyment of an evening at the Gaiety.
CoL. KNIPB, of the 46th, is rapidly arranging
his business connected with the recruiting of men
for his regiment, and proposes to leave for his
csmp at noon to-morrow. The reason for
this departure Is rendered the more im
perative from the fact that Lieut. Col.
Selfridge,. of the 46th, is lying very ill in the
hospital at Alexandria, a fact which leaves the
reginient almost without a command. The
health of Col. Knipe scarcely warrants this
early departure, but it will be seen that the
necessity for hie presence with his regiment is
very peremtory. Any who wish to accompany
Col. Knipe can do so by reporting either at
Bell's store, corner of Second and Chestnut
streets, or at the residence of the Colonel, in
Chestnut street near Front.
A Moon Esramaimmwr.—Among the many
improvements lately made in our city, to which
we can point with pride as an evidence of prook ,
perity and as a determination on the part of
our business men, no longer to remain behind
the •` light house," is the completion of Eby
& Kunkle's large brick building at the corner
of Market and Fifth streets, which is alike
creditable to the owners and ornamental to that
part of our city.
The building is not only one of the largest,
devoted to the grocery business, outside of New
York, but the stock challenges competion.—
Without going into detail, we may safely say
that the firm keep on hand everything usually
kept in a grocery store, (liquors excepted,) and
that they sell at very small profits. Their
clerks are civil and accommodating, and have
strict instructions under no circumstances what
ever to misrepresent or take advantage of any
customer. A general invitation is extended to
the public to visit the new building and exam
ine the extensive stock, whether they purchase
or not.
The undersigned would respectfully in
form those who are afflicted with Rheuma
tism, Dyspepsia, Consumption of Liver and
Kidney, Coughs, Fevers, and all diseases
arising front impurity of the blood, that she is
prepared to furnish Mrs. Westhoven's German
Vegetable Medicines at very moderate rates.
I have also on hand a quantity of invaluable
Salves for Sore Eyes, Frozen Feet and Piles.
References can be furnished as to their won
derful efficacy, whenever called upon. There
need be no apprehension in regard to my com.
potency in administering it, as I have had it
on hand for the past six years. As they are
now sold at reduced prices, no family should be
without them over night. They can be had at
any time at my residence, in Pine street, be
tween Second and Front.

sickly little babe. Every person that saw her
thought I would never raise her. Finally, I
heard of your medicine, and tried it to the
good of my child. She was about three mouths
old when I commenced to use it. She is now
two years and six months old, and enjoys good
health. I would recommend it to all to give•it
a trial. I know several who have tried it, and
all pronounce it good. My et. re is in Filbert
