Gen. Pope's statement that Heintzleman's

confirmed by the heavy firing heard from that

Rumors of various successes have reached
here, but need ccinfirmation. Yesterday rebel

Large Numbers of Troops Awaiting

GEN. MI/INSIDES IN POSSESSION OF
FREDERICKSBURG.
Arawakan., Aug. 80.
There has been heavy firing heard to-day in
the direction of Centreville, and the contest of
yesterday was undoubtedly renewed this morn
ing. Telegraphic communication has been es
tablished to Manassas, and the cars are tinning,
as far as Bull Bun.' The bridge and - railroad
are being repaired with the greatest dispatch:
and trains will - 'probably extend their trips to
morrow. There are still a large number of
troops in Alexandria awaiting transportation
to the field of battle.
A Pennsylvania Brigade comprising the
128 d, 188 d, 184th and 186th regiments , under
General Cook, were to march to-day. Those
ho were able to be moved from the Alexan
dria hospitals have been taken to Washington
to make room for the wounded who are to ar
rive to-day.
Advices from Fredericksburg as late as three
o'clock yesterday afternoon, give contradiction
to the current reports regarding burning of
bridges dros. in that locality. There has 'been
no such proceeding.
Gen. Burnside bad possession of that city

G. N. Fitch with having murdered, in cold
blood, two peaceful citizens. I have no claim
to the title, being plain Colonel, but am doubt
less the officer alluded to.
Some journal landed me during the late
White River expedition for the alleged hanging
of two hostages.
Gen. Lee censures me for the same supposed
act. The praise and censure are alike unde
served, and the charge in both cases are with
out a shadow of foundation in fact. However,
many of them may have deserve& 'different
treatment, not a man was killed by the troops
In. my command, except in fair action.
I am, very respectfully,
Your obedient servant,

Colonel 46th Indiameirolunteers, Commanding,
