The new frigate Ironsides, which Itit Phila
delphia on the evening of the 21st, arrived
here last night, and noir lays at anchor off the
Fortress. Her missive and Imposing propor
tions attract:great attention, and there is much
curiosity as to the Objeot of her visit to thole
waters.
The steamboat Arrowsmith, under charge of
Major Bowles, of General Dix's Staff, left here
with a flag of twice yesterday morning for Ai
ken's Landing, wit h 92 rebel prisoners of war
—among them Captain Lee, who was captured
at Williawburg—to be exchanged. The Ar
rowamitu also took up twelve political pris
oners.
There are no signs of rebel movements on
the line of the James river.
Norfolk and Suffolk have been strongly re
inforced by federal troops.
Brigadier General Emery, commandant at
Yorktown, sent out a recoonoisance yesterday,
about ten miles beyond Glouchester. They
learned of a squad of rebels in that vicinity,
consisting of about four hundred cavalry and a
battery of dying artillery of tour goers, but our
forces had not encountered them tip to - last
night. .
The steamship Arno arrived here thimmorn
ing, and leaves for New York this evening.
The Regimental Quartermaster of the Sev
enth Pennsylvania Cavalry was arrested on' the
25th for a discrepency in hie accounts.
