as it Is new fashionably called, rheumatic lever. Mil a
well remarried typical case We will carefully watch the
case, amd trout time to time call your attention to the vas*
missyoussymptomewhichpresentthemselves. My carrot °byes
in bringing her before you now, is to call attention to a
remedy which has recently been recommended in the
treatment of rkenmailsm. I mean ropatturdmr. Dr.
it weltering, of St. Petersburg, recommends it In the
highest terms, having derived great (tenant from Its Otte
in 260 cases which came under his care. Various com
mendatory tostintonlaLs respecting it have appeared In
our journals, and I propose therefore to Myatt another
trial. I must confine lam always incredulous as to the
worth of new remedies, which are vaunted as spectate ;
but this comes to us recommended so highly, that we
are bound to give it a trial.
SAKE CASE FOUR DAYS LATER I
MAT 2g, 1860.—1 will now exhibit to you the patient for
whom I in...scribed Propylamlne, and wee then labor
big under an attack of acute rheumatism. ighe has
readily taken It In doses of thrap grains every two hours
(lotermittmg tt at night.) The day "her you saw her, I
found her much more comfortable, better than she
pected to be for a week or more, Judging from tier other
*neck. (The pattern now walked into the room.) the
naproventent has stesuilly progressed, and you cannot
tl to notice a ;nuked change in the appearance of her
kits, which are new nearly all of their natural slso..—
DUr far our experiment would have seemed very sue
essfui ; but, gentlemen, we most watt a little While be.
are we can give a decided opinion as to what is to be
he rata.
Here is another paUent who was placed on the use of
—it WOW medicine on Sunday hurt ; she has ions been
suffering from o Invade rheumatlani, and I round her at
that time with an acute attack supervening upon her
chronic affection. The wriste and knuckles were much
swollen and tease. .She took the chloride of Propy la.

perceive that the sweihsg of the joints has much dimin.

THREE DAYS LATER 1 I
La 26, 1860.—This Is the case of acute rheumatism
treated with propyhtmine, the first of those to which I
called your attention at our last clinic. She is still very
comfortable, and is now taking three grains thrice daily.
In this case it has seemed to be followed by very sat
isfactory resells. The second c.se to which your aUen-
Wu was called at our last lecture, has also continued to
do wel 1. I Will now bring before you a very Character
istic case of acute rheumatism, and If the result be sat
factory, l think, as good jurymen, we shill justly render
our verdict to favor ef propyismin
He is a seaman, mt. 26, who was admitted a few days
ago. Hui has ocasaional rheumatic pains, but not 60 as
to keep hie bed, until eight days ago, The pains began
in his right knee, subsequently affected the left knee, and
later, the Mints of the upper extremities. These PUBIS
are all Wale°, tense and tender. ins tongue is furred ;
Ole skin, at present dry, though there has been much
sweating. He pulse is full and strong, and about 90.
He has now need propylamine lbr twenty-four hours.
This gentleman is what may be called a sukitly typical
odes of acute rheumatism. There was exposure to cold
and wet, and this exposure Is followed by a feeling of
gammen, wiero'articular pain, beginning, as It usually
goo,
in (to v eavrto , pints. There is fever and the problem
genagog, so generally attlendant on acute rheumatism.
I did not bring this patient tietbre you with the l [non
acid of giving you *lecture en all the points connected
With rheuntatiiim, but to again give a trial Jo the
new remedy we are tooting, and to exhibit to you this
typical ca e, as I have called it, than watch there co tad
ma be a tatter opportunity for teetuig the medicine In
question. We are, therefore, avoidtng the use of all
