The following additional news bas been re
ceived by the Europe :
The London Times at last admits that the
superior numbers and resources of the North
must in the end prevail, but hopes that Borne
measure will be devised to bring this unnatural
conflict to a close.
The London Herald thinks it is time that
some decided action was taken by France and
England.
Ron. F. Bruce, the governor of the Prince of
Wales is dead.
France is about to construct reduced models
of the Merrimac and Monitor in order to test
their merits.
Russia has recognized the kingdom of Italy.
The government monopoly for salt has been
abolished in Ruda.
General Sudders was shot at and slightly
wounded in Warsaw. The perpetrator of the
deed had not been discovered.
The India and China mails are aboard the
Europa; their news is unimportant. At Bari's,
on Saturday, the Bourse was at 63f. 40c.

FORTRESS MONROR, July 6
Fresh troops arrived here from Washington
yesterday, and went up the JaMes river in the
evening.
Four small steamers, with four barges in
tow, arrived at Fortress Monroe this morning,
laden with artillerymen, horses, &c., and were
doubtless bound up the river.
A skirmish took place yesterday morning
near our left wing, which resulted in the de
feat of the rebels. We took 1,000 rebel priso
ners, and three small bateries, and our cav
alry followed them up till they passed beyond
White Oak.
For the last two days the rebels have shown
little disposition to fight, and ycsterday relin
quished their ground and batteries almost with
out resistance.
FORTRESS Molise& July 6.—A flag of truce
was tent up the York river from Fortress Mon
roe this morning at 11 o'clock.
General M'Clellan has advanced up the river
about seven miles since the Fourth. We have
heard of no fighting within the last two days.
The gunboat captured from the rebels three
days ago was the Teazer. Another rebel gun
boat was sunk the same day. They bad
returned down the river to within about
twenty miles of Harrison's Landing, and en
countered some of our gunboat& Documents
of great value were found on board the Teazer.
They consist of papers showing the rebel plan
of operations, and other matters of the utmost
Importance. Our gunboats came upon the
Teazer in the bend of the river unobserved,
and they thus had no time to destroy the docu
ments.
The Knickerbocker, with about 500 sick and
wounded, leaves here this morning for Wash
ington.
There has been no boat from Harrison's Land
ing to-day. The mail boat was expected an
hour ago.
The officers who was in charge of Savage
Station at the time of the removal of our sick
and wounded, states that nearly all were re
moved previous to the rebels advancing on that
place, and were safely placed in different hos
pitals, with others who were removed from
York river. While they were being removed
the rebels commenced firing upon the hospital.
A young Surgeon went out with a flag of truce,
which bad the effect of stopping their firing,
but he was taken priesoner. We have not learn
ed his name.

There are two vessels called the Daniel Web
ster now in the Government service. One of
them arrived at Philadelphia to-day with
wounded soldiers. The other arrived at this
port on Sunday, having left the James river

SENATE.
Mr. WELMOT, (Pa.,) presented the petition of
Thos. W. Braidwood for an appropriation of
public lands for the benefit of Industrial Schools
for women.
Mr. FESSINDEN, (Me.,) from the Committee
on Finance, reported back the tariff bill with
amendments.
Mr. CHANDLER, (Mich.,) offered a resolution
that the Secretary of War furnish the Senate
with copies of all orders of the Executive to
Gen McClellan, relative to the advance of the
army of the Potomac on Richmond, and all
correspondence between the said General and
the Executive, from the date of the order of
the 22d of February to advance on Manassas
up to the first of May, likewise the numerical
force of the army of the army of the Potomac
as shown by the rolls in November, 1861, and
in January, February and March, 1862, atid
the nuinber of troops Gen. McClellan took to
Fortress Monroe, the number at Fortress Mon
roe, and the reinforcements sent up to Janu
nary, 1862. Laid over. •

On motion of Mr. Fussaming, a Committee
of Conference was appointed on the bill au
thorizing additional Treasury notes.
Mr. Wilms, (Mass.,) from the committee on
the bill regulating the pay and emoluments of
of officers of the army, made a report, which
was agreed to.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Mr. DIVEN, (N. Y.,) asked the House to ex
cuse his colleagues, Messrs. Valkenburg and
Pomeroy, and himself from service for the re
mainder of the session. They desired to le
turn to their respective districts, to use their
influence in raising troops for the service of the
country.
In taking leave of the House, should the ap
plication be granted, for a season, and perhaps
for ever, he desired to say that if the Constitu
tion and the Union are to be save I, it must
be by the strong military arm in the battle
field.
He invited his fellow members to remain
here and provide for the necessary maintenance
of our troops, leaving, for the future, the de
termination to questions about which they
were now divided until the rebellion shall be
crushed out.
Mr. Hurcams, (Ohio,) interrupting, wished
to know whether the gentleman was privileged
to lecture Congress.
Mr. Divan denied that he had any such in
tention. He expressed the hope that Congress
would pass the bill he had introduced, propo•
sing the muster of slaves into the service for
entrenching Beige service; also guaranteeing
them their freedom.
About ten thousand such persons are now
maintained at the expense of the government.
If such class shall not be employed they will
become disorderly, and no one can tell what
excesses they may perpetrate. Congress had
better adjourn and go home, and members
either lead or follow their constituents to the

The House proceeded to the consideration of
a preamble, heretofore introduced by Mr. Won
nil's, to a resolution making inquiry on a sub
ject which latter was adopted at the time set-

treated, much complaint was occasioned among
the soldiers by the fact that while white men,

House to read an extract from a letter of Gen.
Banks on the subject.
Mr. Voonmss objected unless he also was
permitted to read a statement on the fiubject.

On motion of Mr. WAITS, (delegate from
New Mexico,) a resolution was adopted in
structing the Committee on the Judiciary to
inquire into the expediency of ascertaining the
amount of property captured from people of
New Mexico and the General Government in
the latter territory by the authority of the
State of Texas, and providing for the confisca
tion of so much of the land of that State as
will make indemnity for the losses thus incur
red, the Committee to report by bill or other
wise.
Mr. WAsframors, (M.,) from the Committee
on Government Contracts, offered a resolution
which was adopted, instructing the Committee
on Private Land Claims, to make a full inves
tigation into the patents for lands included in
the Military Reservation of Fort Leavenworth ;
and also all the facts connected with the pres
ent situation of the Military Reservation of
Fort Snelling, with power to send for persons
and papers.
Mr. WASTIBURNE, submitted a commu
nication from the Secretary of War asking for
such investigations.
lir. EDWARDS, (N. H.,) presented a bill which
was passed, directing credits to be given on the
proper books to the several Indian tribes for
the amount of trust bonds abstracted from the
Interior Department.
The House then went into committee of the
whole on the state of the lJnion.
Mr. Mortars, (0.,) said he came there to sup
port the administration, by every constitutional
means to put down the rebellion, and In this
he had been consistent. He had voted for all
supplies in men and money.
Mr. VAN HORN, (N. Y..) spoke of the vast
importance of the construction of the ship
canal around Niagara Falls. All the petitions
and papers on the subject had been referred to
the select committee of which he was chair
man.
Mt. RICHARDSON, (Ill.,) briefly vindicated the
late issued address of the Democratic party.
The denunciation of rebels would not put an
eud to the war, this Must be done by armed
men and victory plucked from the battle field
with the cannon and bayonet. The address
was the opinion of others and for it he was not
responsible.
The Committee then rose and the House ad
journed.
THE water in Skunk river , Chicago, does
credit to its name. The .Tournll says "it smells
to heaven," and that " if any means could be
devised to tins that water down the Missis
sippi river, it would end the rebellion in thirty
days. A. pestilence Is close at hand."

Yonr letter of the 4th was received, in pur
suance of which I arrived at Baltimore at
three o'clocVon Saturday morning, the 6th ;
at seven o'clock I gained admission to the Na
tional Hotel Hospital ; I have seen and con
versed with the following sick and wounded of
the "Pennsylvania volunteers," in the order in
which I present them:
Neale McLaughlin, wounded in side ; 116th
regiment, co. E ; returns to his regiment to
day.
John Guhring, 61st regiment; lost one arm at
Fair Oaks ; has no description roll, no clothes;
resides at Pittsburg; says he wishes to go home
in two weeks.
John James Powell, says he Is able to go
home; resides at Manch Chunk.
Francis Pernier, wounded in shoulder near
Richmond, doing well, wants to go home, says
he saw Col. Got;ler and Major Hrigg die on Sun
day morning at Savage Station trom wounds
received on Friday ; private M'Coy, of Phila
delphia, he says was shot through the stomach,
since dead, says James Day was shot by mis•
take by one of our own men.
Corporal Jacob Tugend, badly wounded. and
left on field. do., do., Isaac McCauley. do., do.,
Fred Hibbert. Lieutenant Daniel Connor was
badly wounded. Horace Need is dead; Sergeant
Sharp wounded and left on field; Sergeant Fow
ler, wounded, but will get home alive ; Major
Woodward shot in three places ; thinks he may
get home alive ; all of the 2d regiment.
John Craig, 93d regiment, flesh wound
through thigh, resides at Lock Haven, was
wounded at Fair Oaks, doing well.
M. M. Davis, 61st regiment, wounded at Fair
Oaks, in right hip, has no description papers, is
able to go home, and should be sent.
John Price, wounded near Richmond, has no
description list, will be able to go home in a
tew days, resides at Penn Station, Westmore
land county.
John Hyers, 93d regiment, doing well, will
be able to go home in a few days.
James C. Irwin, 57th regiment, wounded in
hips at Fair Oaks, resides at Iristitown, Mercer
county, has no coat, nor shoes, is able to go
home, no description list, send him home.
James Murphy, feeble, wounded at Fair
Oaks, no description list, wants clothes.

Daniel Craig, 2nd Reserve regiment, bullet
