A Cure Warranted in Two Days.
No Mercury Or NOUScoat Dregs,
Dr. Johnson,
Member of the Royal College of surgeons, London, Grad
uate from One of the moat eminent Colleges in the United
Mabee, sod the greater part of whose Me has been spent
in the hospitals of London, Paris, Philadelphia and else
where, has effected some of the moat astonishing our ea
that were ever known ; many troubled with ringing in
the head and ears when asleep, great nervousness, being
alarmed at sudden sounds, bashfulness, with frequent
blushing, attended sometimes with derangement of mind
were cured immediately.
Take Particular Notice.
Dr. J. addresses all those who havelopred themselves
by improper indulgeece and solitary habits, which ruin
both body and mind, unfitting them for either bush:Leas,
randy, society or marriage.
Those are Bente of the sad and menuteholly effects pro•

Loss of Muscular Power, Palpitation of the heart, Dye

Functions, General Debility, Symptoms or consumption,

Ihnersur.—The fearful erects on the mind are much
to be dreaded—Loss of Memory, Confusion of Ideas , De
pression of Spirits, Evil Forbodings, Aversion to Society,
SW Distrust, Love of bolitude, Timidity, do., are some of
the evils produced.
THOCIRANDS of persons of all ages can now judge what
Is the cause of their declining health, losing their vigor,
becoming weak, pale, nervous and emaciated, having a
singular appearance about the eyes, cough and symptoms
of eoesumption.
Young Dien
Who have Unused themselves by a certain practice 1 n
dulged in when alone, a habit frequently learned from
evil companions, or at school, the Wreste of which are
nightly felt, even whenasleep, and if not cured renders
marriage impossible, and destroys both mind and body,
should apply immediately.
What a pity that ayonng man, the hope of his coun
try, the darling orbb parents, should be snatched from
all prospects end enjoyments of tUb, by the consequence
of deviating from the path of nature and Indulging in a
certain secret habit. Such persons um, before contem•

Marriage,
reflect that a sound mind and body are theDiost neoes
eary mutates to promote connubial happiness. Indeed,
without these, the journey through life becomes a weary
pilgrimage ; the prospect hourly darkens to the view ;
the mind.becomes Shadowed with despair and filled with
the melanaholly adhesion that the hapiniaese of another
becomes blighted with our own.
Disease of Imprudence.
When the misguided and imprudent votary of pleasure
Ands that he has imbibed the seeds of ibis painful dis
ease, It too often hapens that an til-timed sense of shame
or dread of discovery, deters him from applying to those
who, from elucation and respectability, can alone be
friend him, delaying till the constitutional symptoms on
this horr d disease make their appearance, such as ul
cerated sore throat, diseased nose, nocturnal pains in
the head and limbs, dimness of sight, deafness, nodes on
the shin bones and arms, blotches on the head, face and
extremities, progressing with frightful rapidity, till at
last the palate of the mouth or the bones of the nose fall
in, and the victim of this awful disease become a horrid
object of commiseration, till death puts a period to his
dreadfu I sufferings, by sending him to that Cediscov
vered Country from whence no traveler returns."
It is a seforichoffy fact that thousands fall victims to
this terrible disease, owing to the unskillbllnesa of igno
rant pretenders, who by the use of that Deadly Poison,
Mercury, ruin theoenstitution and make the residue o
tile miserable.

K. linger. A brisk engagement of half an

ant to the le linchburg Republican, lane 24
Caiituurrox, May 31.—The Courur of this
mo : says the enemy, in strong force, con
sisting . try, cavalry and artillery:land
ed at Page .int on Thursday morning and ad
vanced tower. Pocotaligo, within two miles
of the Charleston and Savannah Railroad. Oar
forces at that point, although inferior in num
bers held the enemy in check until reinforce
ments arrived, when the enemy retreated to
their boats, the Confederates pursuing them.
It was thought the engagement would be re
sumed last night or this morning.
Two Confederates are reported to have been
killed.
Col. Walker's horse was shot under him at
Secessionvifie.
At Pemberton the enemy's gunboats threw a
few shell, but they did no injury. They also
shelled Newtown.
The engagement lasted three hours, doing
no injury to our side.
One Federal gunboat was disabled. The
Mercury says the mast was shot away.
It was thought the fight would be resumed
this morning.
THE FIGHT AT POCOTALI.GO.
[From the Savannah News.]
The enemy landed from their gunboats yes
terday morning one thousand to fifteen hun
dred etrong, and suddenly advanced towards
the line of the Savannah and Charleston Rail
road. They had advanced as far as Old Pocta
ligo, about a mile and a half from the road,
when they were met by the Rutledge Mounted
Riflemen, numbering ninety men, when a sharp
skirmish ensued. Tue riflemen being the only
troops, held the Yankees at bay for some time,
fighting them at shot range across the old
road. Just before reinforcements arrived, they
made a precipitate retreat in. the direction of
their gunboats, ?pursued by Colonel Walker
with a body of cavalry, who came upon the
ground just as the enemy retired.
The Rutledge Mounted Riflemen, who, our
informant says, had all the first of the fight on
our side to themselves, lost one man killed
and three wounded, with one or two taken
prisoners by the Yankees, who are reported to
have bad three men killed. Col. Walker, of
the cavalry, had his horse shot under him.
The appearance of the enemy at this point
was sudden and unexpected, and their retreat
so precipitate that our troops did not have a
chance to punish their temerity. This move
ment was no doubt a feint to draw our force
from Charleston ; for, if they setiously intend
ed to get possession of the road, their effort
was a very feeble one. The conduct of the
Rutledge Rifle Corps is spoken of in high terms
of praise.
From the Charleston Mercury.]
A private despatch from Captain W . L. Treu
holm'
of the Rutledge Mounted Bifiemen,
dated last evening, says that the fight was then
over. Dr. P. C. Goddard, a private in the
Mounted Riflemen, was killed. Private G. C.
Hughes was wounded, and is a prisoner in the
hands of the enemy. Private C. J. lawton
was seriously and private Robert Steward
slightly wounded.
Dr. Goddard was a practicing physician in
Monroe, Walton county, Georgia.
