THE STATE CONVENTION.
ROLLA, Mo., June 6.
Col. White and Van Selling, of the rebel
army, and James. Massey, Secretary of State,
under Claib Jackson, together with about
twenty ordinary rebels, were captured at Cass
vile a few days since.
Advises from (Gen.= Curtis' army in Arkansas
says that scouting parties from Generals Carr
and Osterhans' divisions in front of Little Red
River, and from Gen. Steele's, on the left and
rear, have been very successful lately in break
ing up reb 1 camps and running down guer
rillas.
Lieut. Col. Lewis, of the First Missouri, fell
in with a party west of Siarcy, charged on
jhem, killing four, and wounding about twenty,
and scattering the rest.
Near West Point a party was routed by Maj.
Hawkins, of the Sixth Missouri, and a rebel
Lieutenant taken prisoner.
Lient.-Col. Rickets of the 9th Illinois Cav
alry atttacked a party at Cschke river, killing
four ; wounding four and taking two prisoners
and driving the rest into the swamps.
Major Bowen, commanding a detachment of
his own battalion, and Third lowa cavalry, at
nine P. IL, on the ninth of May, fell upon a
rebel camp at ffickapoo Bottom, west of Bates
ut 55 miles, killing three and scattering
the rebels in every direction, capturing a large
amount of camp mid garrison equipage, twenty
•two prisoners twenty-one horses fifty-four guns
thirty or forty bowie knives, and thirty revol
vers. This was a daring attack, the men leav
ing the horses and chasing the swamps with
their carbines. Our troops can take the rebels
on their own ground of guerilla warfare and
shOw superior arms and brave conduct.
Jiimasori Cur, June 5.
Not much of special importance transpired
in the convention to-day.
Mr. Brodhead, from the Committee on Con
gressional Districts, reported a bill dividing the
State into nine Congressional districts.
During the afternoon session, the special
order, the ordinance defining the qualifications
of voters and civil officers was discussed.

Three distinct shocks of an earthquake here
today were also felt at several different points
north as far as Urbana. No damage was done
as far as ascertained.
[SECOND DISPATCH.]
Cerro, June 6.—There is yet some doubt
that the fleet passed Fort Randolph, where the
rebels are said to have taken the guns which
were removed from the Port above. They left
five or six guns, and before leaving destroyed
the barracks, camp equippage, gun carriages
and such stores as could not be transported.
They also burned the cotton of which the breast
works were constructed.
The flotilla cast off at five o'clock yesterday
morning, followed by the transports carrying
the Fortraixth Indiana, Col. Fitch, who now
occupy the works, which are said to be of great
strength, and if properly manned could have
successfully resisted a large force.
The rebels, after leaving the fort, destroyed
a pontoon badge, which they had constructed
some weeks since over the Hatche river.
When the Desoto, which last arrival from
the fleet left, the gun boats had passed the
Fort and gone down the river. •
It is reported that the rebels have evacuated
Fort Randolph. If this is the case, nothing
can prevent the fleet arriving at Memphis to
day.
An intelligent and apparently truthful pris
oner, just from Fort Pillow, says our flotilla can
undoubtedly take Forts Pillow and Randolph,
and Memphis, whenever it attacks them.
Col. Elliott, commanding the Union ram, is
impatient for permission to commence the
attack, being entirely confident of success.
Richmond dispatches of June 2d, say that
"the Confederates have thus far driven the
Yankees a mile and a half into a swamp, oc
cupying their camp and capturing their bag
gage and over 500 prisoners. General Rhodes
is wounded, and General Hatton, of Tennessee,
killed. The Yankees fought desperately, but
they were badly whipped. The carnage was
terrible on both sides."
The rebel commander at Fort Pillow calls for
50,000 more men.
A despatch from Grand Junction, dated June
2, states that there are no Union troops be
tween Grand Junction and Corinth.
The Little Rock Democrat, of May 29, pub

The Vicksburg Evening Oitizen, of Saturday,
says: "Eleven gunboats have gone back, down
the river, owing, it is supposed, to insubordi
nation and mutiny. Several remained, and on
Friday evening shelled the shore for several
hours. The rebel batteries are being strength
ened by having additional guns mounted.'
REBEL ACCOUNT OF TUE BATTLE OF
SATURDAY.
Cats°, June s.—The Memphis papers of the
2d contain dispatches from Richmond, dated
the= let inst., of which the following is a sub
, tame:
"Gen. Hill's division commenced the fight
on Saturday morning. Generals Rhodes Ga
rland's, Rains' and Anderson's brigades bearing
the brunt, until the arrival of their reinforce
ments.
"The Murals were driven from their re
doubts, and their batteries were turned oil
them.
" General Lee and President Davis were on
the field. Their presence increased the enthu
siasm of our troops. The Yankees stubbornly
contested every inch of ground, while they
gave way to the impetuous charge of our sol
diers. Large numbers of the Confederate sol
diers are wounded in the arms and legs.
"General Rhodes was slightly wounded.
"The enemy tried to make a flank move
ment about 7 o'clock in the evening, but were
repulsed.
‘On Sunday the battle was renewed, chiefly
with musketry. Prisoners are constantly com
ing in. Gen. Hatton, of Tennessee, is killed.
The carnage on both sides was dreadful, the
Yankees losing two to our one. About 500
prisoners have already been taken.
".The latest intelligence from the battle field
represents that the enemy had been driven a
mile and a half from his position. Oar forces
occupy his camps.
"We captured three batteries after the most
desperate fighting. The enemy were protect
ed by the woods and their intrenchments."
The Vicksburg papers of the Slat say that
eleven of the Federal gunboats have gone down
the river. They bay the fleet Is no nearer the
possession of the city now than it was two
weeks ago, and that the insurmountable obsta
cles encountered below Vicksburg had caused
disaffection among tho Yankee troops, compel-
Hog tho commanders to fall back to reorganize
their forces.

Governor Stanley's Act Revoked.
ACTION OF THE PRESIDENT
CAIRO, May 6.
Wesn - mcnow, June 6.1 3
The excitement which was caused by the ar
bitrary acts of Governor Stanley, in North Car
olina, is sensibly allayed to day by the prompt
and decisive action of the Government.
It Is definitely announced toMay that the
President has instructed Mr. Stanley .to recall
his obnoxious orders, to reopen the schools for
the contrabands, and to stop the remanding of
fugitive slaves to their masters.
The friends of Governor Stanley are not at
all pleased with this countermand. They de
clare that he will resign his office rather than
recall his orders.
Col. Noble, commander of this post, with
nearly the entire command under marching
orders down the river, will leave to-morrow.
