i" MAT 19, 1860,—labin 11, mt. 28, single, never was very
strong. Two years ago she had an attack duets rheenna•

and subsegently from &relapse ler four more. Sheba' been
well since then till last Sider day, while engaged In house
cleaning, she took cold, bad pain in her back, felt cold,
hot had so decided chill. Two days later her ankles be
gan to swell, which was followed by swelling of the
knee Joints and of the bands. She hie now -dull
pain in her shoulders, and her knuckles are very tender,
red and paiotYtl ; both hands are affected, but the right

lo bringing her before you now, is to call attention to a
remedy which has recently been recommended in the
treatment of rheumatism. I Mall prfrAZlNill6. Dr.
awenarins, of St. Petertburg, recommends it in the
highest terms, having derived great benedt from Its use
in 260 cases which came under his care. Various com
mendatory testimonials respecting it have appeared in
oar Journals, and I propose therefore to give it another
teal. I most confess lam always incredulous as to the
worth of now remedies, which are vaunted as specifies ;
but this comes to us recommended so highly, that we
are bound to give It a LAIL

KAY 28,1660.--I will now exhibit to you the patient for
whom I prescribed Pf amine, and was then. labor
ing under an attack o ac ute rheumatism. She has
steadily taken it in doses of three graans every two hours
(Intermitting It at night.) The day after you saw her, I
(bundler much more comfortable, better than she ex
pected to be for a week or more, Judging from her other
attack. (The patient now walked Into the room.) The
improvement has steadily progreseed, and you cannot
fail to notice a marked change In the appearance of her
Joints, which are new nearly all Of their natural size .
Thar far our experiment would have seemed very sac
careful ; but, gentlemen, we must wait a little while be
fore we can give a decided opinion as to what is to be
the resell.
Here is another patient who was planed on the use of
..as same medicine on Sunday lest ; she has long boon
suffering (romchronic rheumatbsth, and I Round her at
that time with an acute attack supervening upon her
chronic affection. The wrists and knuckles were much
swollen and tense. She took the chloride of Propyia
mine in three grain doses every two hours, and you will
perceive that the swelling of the joints has moult dimin
ished.
THREE DAYS LATER I 1
Afar 26, 1860.—This is the case of acute rheumatism
treated with propylamine, the first of those to which 1
called your attention at our last clinic. She is still very
comfortable, and is now taking three grains thrice *tally.
In this case It has seemed to be followed by very sat
isfactory results. The second case to which your atten
dee was called at our last lecture, has also continued to
do wel I. I will now bring before you a very character
istic case of acute rheumatism, and if the result be eat.
factory, I think, as good jurymen, we snail justly render
our verdict In favor of propyhin •
He Is a seaman, set. 26, who was admitted a few days
ago. Has ba4 GOLutional rheumatic pains, but not so sir
to keep his bed, until eight days ago. The pains began
in hie right knee, subsequently &Hatted the left knee, and
later, the Joints of the upper extremities. These joints
are all swollen, tense and tender. Ells tongue is furred ;
I his skin, at present dry', though there has been much
sweating. His pulse is tall and strong, and about 90.
Ile has now used propylamine tar twenty-four Wars.
This gentleman is what may be called a strietly typical
case of acute rheumatism. There was exposure to cold
and wet, andithht exposure is followed by a finding of
coldnees, severe articular pain, Intoning, as it usually
does, In the lower joints. There Is fever and the profuse
sweating, so generally attlendant on acute rheumatism.
I did net bring this patient beibre you with the i nten
fion of giving you a lecture on all the points commuted
with rheumatism, but to again give a trial to the
new remedy we are tatting, and to exhibit to you this
typical case, as I have called It, than which there co uld
not be a direr opportunity for testing the medicine in
question. We are, therefore, avoiding the use or all
other medicines, even anodynes, that there may be no
Misgivings as to which was the efficient remedy. You
shall see the case of a titture
THE RESULT.
A FAVORABLE VERDICT.
Join 9, 1860.—The next of our oonvalelmente is the
case of acute rheumatism before yuu at our clinic or May
98th, which I then called a typical case, and which U
wan remarked was a fair opportunity for trading * the
worth at our new remedy, It was therefore steadily
given in three grein doom) every two hours for four days.
The patient has got along vary Wooly, and Is now able to
walk shout, as you see. Ido not hesitate to say that I
have novae seen 1111 severe Calle Of acute rheumatism
so soon restored to health as this man has been, and
without being prepared to deoldepositive by as to the val.
to of the remedy we have used, I feel bound to state
that In the eases in which we have tried the Chloride a
Preipylamine, the patients have regained their health
much earlier than under the treatment ordinarily par.
sued. I wish cattlemen, you would yourselves try It;
and report the results. •
