MAT 39, 1860,-.-EUell S., wt. 28, single, never was very
strong. Two years ago she had an attack of Mane Thema
tism, from which she was confined to her bed Ibr two weeks
and subseeently from 'relapse ter four Mora, Sbebaa been
well since then WI last Batt day, while engaged in house
cleaning, she took cold, had pain In her back, felt cold,
hot, had so decided chill. Two days later her ankles be
patio swell, which was followed by swelling of the
knee joints arid of the hands. She hint - now dull
pain to her shoulders, and her knorklea ere very leather,
red and painful ; both hands are 'Misted but the right
la most so. This, then, Is a case of acute rheumatism, or,
as It is now fashionably called, rheumatic fever. Ms a
well remarked typical Cale. We spill carefully' watch the
case, and from lime to time call your attention to the vari•
ode symptoms which present themselves. My chief object
In bringing her before you now, is to call attention to a
remedy which has recently been recommended In the
treatment of rheumatism,. I mmtepropylessine. Dr.
Awenarlus, of. Set 'Petersburg;fthemnmendis le in the
highest terms, having derived groat benefit from lis use
in 250 cases whicb came under bir:tare. Various com
mendatory testimonials respecting it have appeared In
our journals, and I propose therefore to give it another
trial. I must confine, lam elways incredulous as to the
worth of -ow reutiedlos„ whiekere vaunted as specifies.;
but this tomes to us recommended iS.bighly,4llat we
are bound to give It a trial.
SANE CARE FOUR DAYS LATER 1
glisv 23, 1880.-1 will now exhibit to you the patient for
whom I prescribed Propylaminc, and wa a then labor
ing under an attack of acute rheumatism. She has
steadily taken it in dims of three grime every two hours
(intermitting it at night.) The day after you saw her, I
found her much more comfortable, better than she ex
pected to be for a week or more, judging from her other
Weak. (rho patient noW walked into the room.) The
improvement ban steadily progressed, and you cannot
Mil to notice s marked change In the appearance of her
Pilots, which are new nearly all of their natural else.—
Thus far our experiment would havoseemed vary suc
cessful ; but, gentlemen, we must wait a little while be
fore we can give a decided opinion as to what is to be
the result.
Here la another patient who Was placed on the use of
-ae same medicine on Sunday last ; she has long boon
suffering from a brooks rheumatism, ant I found her at
that time with an acute attack supervening upon her
chronic allbotion. The wrists and knuckles were much
swollen and tense. Bhetook the chloride of Propyla
mino in three grain doses every two hours, and you will
Perceive that the atielling of the joints has much dimin
ished.
THREE DAYS LATER. l I
Mir 28, 1880.—This is the case of acute rheumatism
treated with propylamine, the first ofthose to which I
called your attention at our last clinic She is still very
comfortable, and le now biking three grains thrice daily.
In thle case It hes seemed to be followed by very eat
-180u:dory resettle. The second else to which your atten
tion was called at our rout lecture, has also continued to

He has now used propylamine Sir twenty-four hours.
This gentleman is what maybe called a radially typical
cue of acute rheumatism. There was exposure to cold
and wet, and this exposure le followed by a Meting of
ooldnesa, severe articular pain, beginning, as it usually
dam, in the lower joints. There is fever and the profuse
Sweating, so generally attlendant on acute rheumatism
I did net bring this patient betbre yen with the inten
tion of giving you a lecture on all the points connected
with rheumatism, but to again give a trial to the
new remedy we are testing, and to exhibit to you this
typical ease, eel have called it, than which there co aid
not be a fairer opportunity for testing the medicine in
question. ?Pe arc, therefore, avoiding the use of all
other medicines, even anodynes, that there may be no
misgivings as to which was the efficient remedy. You

A FAVORABLE VERDICT.
Jona% I.ll6o.—Ths nest of mar convalescents is the
case of acute rheumatism before you at our clinic of May
26th, which I then called a typical osse, and which It
was remarked was a fair opportealtyl for •testing the
worth of our new remedy, It was therefore steadily
given in three grain doses ovary two hours f a r four days.
The patient haagotakmg very Weedy, and is now able to
walk about, as' ou see. Ido not bealtate to say that I
have coves seen as severe a ease of saute rheumatism
