ease, it too often hapens that an tll-timed sense of shame
or dread of discovery, deters him from applying to those
who, from euic.tion and respectability, can alone be
friend him, delaying tilt the constltnitinal symptoms on
this hour d disease make their appearance, such as al
mated sore throat, diseased nose, nocturnal pains In
the head aLd limbs, dimness of sight, dealnesa, nodes on
the shin bones and arms, blotches on the Is ad, face and
extremities, progress ng with frightful rapidity, till at
last the palate or the mouth or the bones of the aO3O fall
le, and the victim of this awful disease become a horrid
objrci of commiseration, till death puts a period to his
dreadfu I sufferings, by sending h m to " that Undiscov
vered Country from whence no traveler returns."
It is a means/Jody fact that thousands fall victims to
this terrible disease, owing to the unskilfultness of igno
rant pretenders, who by the use of that Deadly Pois on,
Mummy, ruin the constitution and make the residue o

Canto, May 15.
An expedition consisting of six squadrons of
the First Wisconsin cavalry, from Cape Girard
eau, went to Bloomfield on Saturday, and early
on Sunday morning fell upon the rebel Colonel
Phelan's camp, scattering them in every direc
tion. One killed and eleven captured. A large
number of horsesand a quantity of camp equip
page and ammunition were taken. 'I he rebel
iorce, numbering five or six hundred, infest
Chalk and Poplar Bluffs,., impressing all men.
The country is being swept of horses, cattle and
supplies, which are sent South. The country
is represented to be in a state of great terror.

Cmoaoo, May 15.—When Gen. Mitchell
joined forces with Gen. Pope, he brought with
them two thousand five hundred prisoners.—
They will be sent to Cairo soon, if transporta•
tion can be obtained.
In the battle of Farmington one rebel Gen
eral, supposed to be Bragg, was killed.
Fifteen deserters came into our lines from
Corinth Report says that several more regi
ments mutinied, among them the First Lou
isiana, First Alabama and Second Tennessee
regiment.

The Rebels Between Richmond and the Chick
&hominy in Large Force.
CuhissemaND, Va., May 14.
Gen. M'Clellan's headquarters were estab
lished here yesterday, and are now pleasantly
located on the banks of the Poruonky river.
The main body of the army is rapidly con
centrating at the point designated by the com
manding general.
The quartermaster and commissary stores are
in abundance.
[Cumberland alluded to in the above dispatch,
is a small village a few miles beyond New
Kent Court House, about twenty-three miles
from Richmond.—En. Tsr..]
The advance•guard of the army under Gen.
Stoneman still remains at the White House,
within sight of the enemy's possessions.
A contraband who arrived from Richmond
yesterday, states that between that city and
the Chickahonsiny river, a distance of some
seventeen miles, the enemy are encamped in
large force, where they expect to await the ar
rival of the army of the Potomac.
As the rebels fall back they drive before
them the most of the cattle, sheep and hogs,
leaving only such things as they cannot re
move.
Two explosions were heard yesterday in the
direction of the Chickahoniiny, supposed to
be the blowing up of the brides.

CHICAGO, May 15.
[Special to the Tribune from Fort Wright, Nay 13
Last evening the rebels commenced shelling
the place behind Craighead Point, which, until
yesterday was occupied by our mortar boats.
They kept up the fire during the night, the
shells exploding wide of the mark.
They are provided with mortars equal in
weight of metal with those used by the feberal
fleet.
Capt. Winslow was dispatched by the mail
steamer yesterday ‘ to St. Louis for the purpose
of bringing our rams to this place as soon as
possible.
The gunboat Hickman which has been sta
tioned at Hickman, has joined the fleet.
Preparations have been completed on all the
gunboats now here which, in the opinion of the
ablest engineers, will most effectually render
useless any rebel contrivance of ram species.

After a long discussion, the report was agreed

A message from the President was received,

the expedition against New Orleans and forts.
Mr. Hamax, from the committee of confer
ence on the Homestead bill, made a report
which was agreed to.
The Indian apprpriation bill was taken up
and discussed at some length..
A message was received from the House an
nouncing the death of Goldsmith F. Bailey, of
Massachusetts.
Mr. Sumesa delivered a brif eulogy, and after
passing the customary resolutions, the Senate
adjourned.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Mr. ELIJAH Wenn, (N. Y.,) from the Com
mittee on Commerce, reported a bid establish
ing a Coinage Department in the United States
Assay Office of New York. Ordered to be
printed and recommitted to the Committee.
The House passed the Senate bill authorizing
the appointient of medical storekeepers for
army and pital chaplains.
The House then proceeded to the considera
tion of the special order, namely, business per
taining to the District of Colombia.
Among the measures passed were the follow
ing: The Satiate bill setting apart ten per cent.
of the taxes paid by colored persons to be ap
propriated to educating colored children in the
District.
The Senate bill requiring the oath of allegi
ance to be administered to persona offering to
vote whose loyalty shall be challenged.
The House bill requires the oath of allegiance
taken by attorneys and solicrtors in the courts
within the District of Columbia.
Mr. Porron, from the committee of confer
ence on the homestead bill, male a report
which was adopted.
air. THOMAS, (Mass.) announced the death of
his colleague, Mr. Goldsmith F. Bailey, In
terms of rating eloquence, and submitted the
usual resolutions of condolence and respect.
Mr. AsuLEY, (0.) and Messrs. Tams and
Emor, of Massachusetts, also paid a tribute
of respect. The resolutions were adopted, and
the House Adjourned.
