[Correspxulence Missouri Democrat.]
Foiarna, Mo., April 18
Judge Murphy and D. Johnson, of Hunts
ville, Ark., arrived at General Curtis' head
quarters last night, having been obliged to fly
from their homes since the battle of Pea Ridge,
by threats made against them by a band of
Texan•ranger stationed at ()mach.
Judge Murphy was the only member of the
Arkansas seceding convention, whose vote was
cast against secession of the State at Hunts
ville.
The Union men are depressed with gloom,
not being aware of the recent victories, no
malls having_ been - received since Pierces digit t
from Springfield.
It was proclaimed by the rebels that Price
had retaken Springfield and surrounded Curtis;
chat Pike and his Indians had whipped Hunter;
that the Federals were repulsed with gra at loss
at Island No. 10, and were falling back along
the whole line, and that Jett Davis was about
to head four hundredtbousaud troopitaihvade
Maryland and the Northern States.
These assertions were generally believed and
no one had tete hardihood to dispute these false
hood. The judge gives much information of
interest relative to Ariumsachiatters.
Gov. Rector is bitter and wolfish. He called
an extra session of the Legislature but, it was
three weeks before a quorum Was present.
In his message he recommended that an act
be passed punishing with heavy fine any per
son who even expressed doubt of the success of
the confederate arms and that a second offence
be declared 'felony.
An act was passed imposing a tax of thirty
dollars per bale,on cotton, thus favoring the
production of grain to the discouragemcnt of
cotton raising.
Col. Wright, of the Sixty-eighth Missouri cav
alry returned to Cassville on the evening of the
evening of the ninth, having made a successful
expedition, with four companies of his com
mand, through the southwest corner of the
State.
All Jayhawking bands in that locality were
dispersed.
Several skirmishes took place, which result
ed in the death of several prominent rebels.
One hundred and twenty-five prisoners were
captured, all of whom except the leaders and
some twenty-five wervibreleased on taking the
oath of allegiance.
A. number of horses were captured, together
with one hundred and twenty-two head of cat
tle, three hundred and twenty-seven bushels
of wheat and forty-five hundred pounds of
bacon.
All rebel gangs not captured were driven by
Cul. Wright down to Standwaity, a point on the
line of the Indian Territory, twenty-five miles
below Nesho.
It is reported that a body of rebels, six hun
dred strong, are encamped between Cowstine
and Buffalo creek, and Pike is at the head of
fifteen hundred Indians, fifteen miles below.
FROM WASHINGTON.
TEE REPORT ON THE SURRENDER OF THE
NORFOLK NAVY YARD.
NO PASSES TO YORKTOWN.
WASHINGTON, April 18.
The Select Committee to inquire into the
surrender of the Norfolk Navy Yard made a
report to-day.
They censure the Buchanan Administration
severely for its neglect, and say that the pres
ent Administration cannot be held blameless
for suffering thirty-seven days to elapse, after
it came into power, before making a movement
for the defence of the yard.
The Committee censures Commodore Pauld
ing, and Captains Pendergrass and McCauley,
and say, in conclusion, that "the nation
should learn that pusillanimity in the defence
of our rights may be as injurious as the as
saults of our enemies."
The following order has been issued :
WAR DEPARTMENT,
Annarerrr GENERAL'S OFFICP,
Wean:moms, April 18, 1862.
In the present condition of military operations
at Yorlstown, no passes can be given to persons
not immediately connected with the troops in
a military capacity. The sick and wounded
will be amply provided for by the government,
and their friends cannot be permitted to visit
them while the above prohibition is in force.

APACKI, NEW MaXIOO, BRTWllliti SANTA }
FE AND FORT UNION, Ma,cA 10.
Since I wrote you, Colonel Slough's column,
thirteen hundred strong, has advanced to Ha
gan's rancho, twenty-five mike north of San
ta Fe, where they encountered the enemy ;
strength not known, and immediately engaged
them.
Major Crittenden, First Colorado volunteers,
I and two companies of 11. S. infantry under
Capt. Lewis, were sent to the rear to fall upon
them. Col. Slough, according to the pro
gramme, gave way gradually, which left the
supply train of the rebels unsupported, which
Maj. Crittenden and Capt. Lewis easily cap
tured, together with about fifty loaded wagons,
which were burned, and twenty prisoners and
one two pound howitzer, taken from us at Fort
Craig, wnich was spiked by our troops.
Colonel Slough's command then fell back to
a strong position. Our trophies are one lion
died prisoners, pritates and officers, fifty loaded
wagons burned, one piece of artillery of the
enemy's, spiked, from one hundred to two
hundred killed and wounded, including one
major, two captains, &c. Our JOBS Is about
eighteen or twenty killed, including Lieutenant
Baker, of the Colorado volunteers, and thirty
or forty wounded. Three or four officers were
also wounded.
It is supposixl the rebel Gen. Sibly will ad
vance upon Col. Slough's command with his
entire force from two to five thousand strong,
add that Col. Slough will fall back upon thh
trenches at Depot Union.
At last accounts Col. Canby had not left Fort
Craig, With Coi. Slough's command it is be
lieved he can hold Fort Union against any
force the rebels can bring against it.
The noble command engaged on our side
behaved with signal gallantry and coolness, ,
both volunteers and regulars.
P. S.—Ninety-Rye prisoners, with eleven
officers of the rebel army, have just pasted
under escort, and will arrive at Fort Union
tonight or early in the morning. Colonel
Slough's entire command has fallen back to
Bengal Springs, forty-four miles trout Fort
Union, and with supporting distance.
