There is little change la State affairs at Bean
fort. Fort Macon still holds out and Is be

lbstensive preparations are going on and op
erations will be commenced in a few days. A
few shells have already been thrown into the
fort.
The steamer Peabody arrived from New York
to-day and proceeded to Hatteras.
We were visited by a thunder-storm last
night. The weather still continues pleasant.
To-day cannonading has been heard, all
morning, from the direction of Yorktown.
No official reports have been received, but it
rumored that the town has been burnt. This
is probably incorrect. However another re
port says a fight is taking place this afternoon.
A flag of truce this afternoon brought down
the following released prisoners of war from
Richmond : Col. Beauferd, Lieut. Vanborn,
Capt. Bliss, 11. S. A., taken in Texas last sum
mer, Col. Woodruff, let - Kentucky regiment,
taken in Kentucky:
Thellichmond papers mention that two men
named Price Lewis and John Scully, have beep
convicted as spies, and were to have been hung
yesterday, but that a short respite had been
granted. The men claim to be British subjects
and loyal.
Mosul, April 4.—The Advertiser hp a special
_despatch from Memphis stating that Buell's
army had reached Savannah, on the Tennessee
river, from Columbia. There had been a brisk
skirmishing and great activity on both sides for
the great struggle.
On Wednesday a Yankee force 2000 strong
landed at Biloxi, from three vessels and cut the
telegraph line between Mobile. and Now Or.,
leans.
WASHINGTON, April 6.—The boat which left
Fortress Idonroe at 10 o'clock this morning
brings word at that hour that all was
,quiet in
the immediate vicinity and no indications of
any movement on the part of the Merrimac.

ble source, has reached here, that • Beauregard
has been outflanked in the position his rebel
army occupied near Corinth, Miss., and was
compelled to tall back; and also that a heavy
body of United States troops had. got in be
tween the enemy and the city of Memphis, not
far from the Mississippi, thus cutting off com
munication and retreat.
Glorious news may be expected from that
quarter in a day or two.

newspaper, of articles and information intend
ed and designed to comfort the enemy and in
vite persons to rebellion against the Govern
ment of the United States.
One of the criminal publications was styled
"letters from the Army" another, " Boot Abe
on Die" a third "News from Gen. Price." The
commissioners found the prisoner guilty of the
charges and specifications and sentenced him
to be placed and kept outside the lines of the
State of Missouri during the war, and that the
press, type, furniture and materials of the
printing office of the Boone county Standard
be confiscated and sold for the use of the Unit
ed States.
Gea. Halleck approved the finding and sen
tence, and directed the printing office in charge
of the Quarter Master until further orders ;
that the prisoner be placed outside the State
of Missouri, and that if he returns during the
war without permission that he be arrested and
placed in close confinementin the Alton mili
tary prison.
The proceedings being returned to the War
Department, they were approved by the secre
tary, and an order issued that the form of pro
cedure should be adopted in like cases by the
commanding officers of all the military depart
ments.

The storeship Supply, from Warsaw sound on
the 29th ult., arrived here this afternoon, and
reports that the United States batteries on shore
were all ready to commence the attack on Fort
Pulaski when she left, and from the fact that
neavy firing was heard in that direction on the
80th, no doubt the work has commenced.

igence throughout the United States. They
will be respected and obeyed accordingly.
