HOUSE OF BEPRESENTATIVEI
The House proceeded to the consideration of
the Senate bill to Increase the efficiency of the
medical department of the army.
During the discussion Mr. BLAKE, (Ohio,) said
he had no doubt that the army of the Potomac
bad received good medical attention, but it was
not so with the Western boys, who had been
murdered by neglect. He had received letters
from fathers and mothers, beseeching him to
have something done to save the livee of their
children.
Mr. NAM/ caused to be read an article in the
Cincinnati ?bier, showing the gross inefficiency
in the medical department of the west.
Mr. Szrzooo, (Ill.,) pronounced it a ecurril
lone arid vile slander, as was apparent upon its
very face. It was in bad taste to have it read
here.
Mr. Brats regretted extremely that the
gentleman thought it necessary to administer to
him such a rebuke. Hie want of good taste
might be owing to hie early training. The ar
ticle 'contained facts which came under tbeedi
toris'own observation, and was not scurrillous.
The subject was then passed over.
:.,The House then went into committee of the
whole on the tax bill and afterwards adjourned.
