MAT 19, 1880 2 —Ekes S., sit. 28, single, never was very
strong. Two years ago she had an attack of acute rhemna

and subseqentiy from &relapse for four more. Shakes been

knee Joists and of the hands. She has now dull
pain In her shoulders, and her knuckles are very tender,
red and painful ; both hands are affected, bet the right
is meet so.• This, then, is a case of acute rheumatism, or,
as It Is now fashionably Gulled., rheumatic fever. It is a
well remarked typical ease We will carefully watch the
case, and from time to time call your attention to the varl•
&as symptoms which present themselves. My chief object
In bringing her before you now, in to call attention to a
remedy which has recently been recommended in the
treatment of rheumatism. I m :an propy/amioe. Dr .
Awentuius, of St. Petersburg, recommends it in the
highest terms, having derived great umlaut from its Die
In 250 Mee which came under his care. Various com
mendatory testimonials reipecting it have appeared in
our journals, and I propose therefore to give II another
trial I must confess lam always incredulous as to the
worth of new remedies, which are vaunted as specifies ;
but this comes to us recommended so highly, that we
are bound to give it a trial.
SAME CASE FOUR DAYS LATER 1
MAT 2 1880.-1. will now exhibit to you the patient for
whom I prescribed Propylamine, and wa a then labor.
tag under an attack of acute rheumatism. Bhe has
steadily taken it in doses of three grates every two hours
(Intermitting it at night.) The day after you saw her, 1
found her much more comfortable, better than she ex
pected to be for a week or pore, judging from her other
attack. (The patient now walked into the room.) The
Improvement has steadily progressed, and you canuot
fait to notice a marked change in the appearance of her
Mite, Whielkare now nearly all of their natural size,—
Thus far our experiment would have seemed very 660-
Medd ; but, gentlemen, we must wait a little while be
ibre we can give a decked opinion as to what is to be
the result..
Here is another patient who was placed on the use of
the same medicine on Sunday last ; she has long been
sufibring from o Lronlu rheumatism, and I found her at
that time with an settle attack supervening upon her
°breaks affection. The wrists and knuckles were much
swollen and tense. She took the chloride of Propyla
mine in three grain doses every two hours, and you will

THREE DAYS LATER II
MET 203, 18e0.—Th1s is the case of acute rheumatism
treated with propylamine, the first of those to which I
called your attention at our last cliule. bhe is still very
comfortable, and is now taking three grains thrice daily.
In this case it has seemed to be followed by very ,at•
initiatory regalia. The second case to which your atten
don wag called at our last lecture, has also continued to
do wale I will now bring before you 4 very character
hale case of acute yheumatiam, and If the result be eat
rectory, I think, as good jurymen, w, snail justly render
our verdict in favor of propylamin
He is a seaman, get, 26, who was admitted a few days
ago. Has hat ocaaelonal rheumatic pains, but not so as
to keep his bed, until eight days ago. The pains began
lila right knee, subsequently affected the left knee, and
later the Joints of the upper extremities. These pima
are all swollen, tense and tender. His tongue is furred ;
Ms skin, at present dry, though there has been much
awakeing. His pulse Is full and strong, and about 90.
Be bag new used propylamlno for Moody-four boars.
This gentleman Is what may be called a strictly typical
awe Or. Saute rheumatism. There was exposure to cold
and wet, and this exposure is followed by a feeling of
mildness, severe artionher pain, beginning, as it usually
demo, lathe lower joints. There is Myer and the profuse
swotting; so generally atttentbuit on saute rheumatism.
I did net bring this patient bogy() you with the t elan
d= of giving you a lecture on all the point& contracted
with rheumatism. but to again Otte a trial to the
new remedy we* are* testing,' dud to exldOlt to you this
typical sew, as I -- have Milled it, than which there co uld
hot be s tkiibr OPPortunity for testing the medicine in
question. We are, therefore, avoiding the use or all
ether meanies, evil, ano (yam, that .her.: may be no
misgivings ag to which was the efficient remedy. You

THE RESULT
4:i A FAVORABLE VERDICT
nun% 1860.—The next of our couvaletments Is the
ease of acute rheumaUsm before you at our clinic of May
fah, whlehit then, called a typical case, and • which it
was remarked was a fair opportunity for testing the
worth of our new remedy, It was therefore steadily
given 1¢ three grain doses every two boors for four days.
The patient has gut along very nicely, and Is now able to
walk about, as you see. Ido not hesitate to siy that I
have Moira seen as severe.* ease of acute rhea malls m
so seenireatered to health as this man has been, and
without being prepared to decide positive by as to the val
ue of the remedy we have used, I feel bound to ate to
that in the eases in which we have tried the Chloride o
Propylamine, the patients h ive , retained their health
much earlier than under he , treatment ordinarily pur
sued. I wish gentlemen, you would yourselves try lt,

AYER'S SARSAPARILLA,

0.181.A3D, Ind., Bth June, 1859.
.1. C. Avis & CO., Gents : I feel it my duty to acknowl
edge what your Sarsaparilla has done for me. Having
inherited a &railing infection, I have suffered from it
in various ways for years. Sometimes it burst out in
Ulcers on my hands and arms ; sometimes turned in
ware and digressed me at the stomach. Two years ago
it those out on my head and covered my scalp and ears
with one sore, whieh was painful and loathsome beyond
description. I tried many medic.nee and several phyW
clans, but without much relief from any thing. In fact,
the disorder grew worse. At length 1 was rejoiced to
read in the Gospel Messenger that you had prepared an
alternative (earsaparilla,) for I knew from your rep
illat i o n that any thing you made must be good. I sent
to Cincinnati and got it, and used it till it cured me. I
took it, as you advise, in small doses of a teaspoonful
over a month, and used almost three bottles. Now and
healthy ekes soon began to form under the scab, which
alter a while fall off my skin is now clear, and I know by
my feelings that the disease has gone tram my system.
Thu can well believe that I feel what lam saying when
I tell you, that I bold you to be one of the &ogles of the
age, and remain ever gratefully. Yours,
ALFRISD B. TALI-E .
