Mar 19, 1800,-1111es a, set. 28, single, never was very
strong. Two Years ago she had an attack or acute rheum's
thim, trom which she was confined to her bed Air two weeks
and subseitenLy'lrom a relapse fer four more. Swims been
well since then till last Baler day, while engaged In house
cleaning, she took cold, bad pain in her back, felt cold,
hot had so decided chill. Two days later her ankles be
goo so swell, which was followed by swelling of the
knee Joints and- of the hands. She has now dull
pain in her shoulders, and her knuckles are very , tender,
red and painful; both bands are affected, but the right
is malt so. This, then, is a case of acute rheumatism, or,
as it is now fashionably called, rheumatic fever. It is a
well remarked typical ease We will carefully watch the
case, and from lime to time call your attention to the vari
ous symptoms which present themselves. My chief object
in bringing her before'you now, Is to call attention to a
remedy which has 'recently been recommended in the
treatment of rheumatism. I swam propplanaine. Dr.
awenarins, of St. Petersburg, recommends it in the
highest terms, baying derived great cement from its use
in 250 owe which calm under his care. Various com

our jourualt, and I, propose therefore to give it 'another
trial. linnet warm Lam always incredulous as 'to the

Mar 711,1800.—1 will now exhibit to you the patient for
whom I prescribed Propylamtne, and wa s then labor
ing under an attack of acute r heumatism. She has
steadily taken it In doses of three grains every two hours
(intermitting it at night.) The day after you saw her, I
found her much more comfortable, better than she ex
pected to be fora week or more, Judging from her other
attack. (The patient now walked Into the room.) The
improvement has sootily progressed, and you canoe
fall to nonce a marked change in the appearance of her
joints, which are now nearly all of their natural sise.—
Thus far our experiment would have seemed very sue.
cessrul ; but, gentlemen, we must wait a little wnie be
fore we eau give a decided opinion as to what le to be
the result.
Here le another patient who wart placed on the use of
the same medicine on Sunday last ; *ha has long been
suffering from o /mai rheumatism, and I found her at
that time with an acute attack supervening upon her
chronic &notion. The wrists and knuckles were much
swollen and tense. She took the chkolde of Propyla -
mine in three grain doses every two hours, cud you will
perceive that the swelling of the joints has mach dimin
ished.
THREE DAYS LATER !I
ILLY RB, 1860.—This is the cue of acute rheumatism
treated with propylamine, the drat of those to which I
elided your attention at our last clinlo. She is stall very
comfortable, and is now liking three grains thrice daily.
In this case it hgs seemed to be followed by very, sat
istactory resells. The second a to which your atten
tion was called at our last lecture, has also continued to
await. I will now bring before you a very character
istic case of acute rhaumatism, and , if the result be eat
factory, I think, good jurymen, we shall justly render
our verdict in favor of propylan +
He lea seaman, ml. 26, who was admitted a few days

to keep his bed, until eight days ago. The pains began
in his right knee, subsequently alfeeted the left knee, and
later, the Pointe of the upper extremities. These Joints
are all swollen, tense aid tender. His tongue is furred ;
his skin, at present dry, though there has been much
sweating. His pulse is foil and strong, and about 90.

In various ways for years. Sometimes It burst out in

It broke out on my head and covered my scalp and ears
with one sore, which was painful and loathsome beyond
description filed many medicines and several physi

the disorder grew worse. At length 1 was rejoiced to
read in the Gospel Messenger that you had prepared an
alternative (Sarsaparilla,) for I knew irom your rep•

to Mailman and got it, and used it 1111 It cared me. I
took tt, ae yon advise, In small doses of a teaspoonful

after a while full off my skin is now clear, and I know by

Dr. J. O. Area :fir, I cheerfully comply with the re.
quest of your agent, and report to you some of the abets
I have realised with your Sarsaparilla.
have cured with it, in my pruritic*, most of the corn
pistols for which it is recommended, and have found Us
effects truly wonderful in the cure of Ventral and Mar
mica Die wee. One of my patients had Syphilitic Werra
In his throat, which were °entwining his palate and the
top of his mouth. Boor Sarsaparilla, steadily taken,
cured him In five week. Another was attacked by sec
ondary symptoms in his nose, and the olcerahon had eat
en away a considerable part of it, so that I believe the
disorder would soon ream tie brain arid kill him. But it
yielded to my administration of your Sarsaparilla: the
ulcers healed, and he is well again, not of course without
some disfiguration to his bee. A woman who bad been
treated for the same disorder by mercury was suffering
from this poboo in her bones. They bad become so
sensitive to the weather that on a damp day she suffered
excruciating pain In her joints and bones. She,
.100, was
cured entirely by your Sarsaparilla% in a few arabirs. I
know from its formula, which you agent gave me, that
this Freparation from your laboratory meat be a great
remedy ; consequently, these truly remarkable results
with it have net surprised me.
