J. C. drag & CO., Gouts : I feel it my duty to acknowl

Inherited a Scrofelous infection, I have suffered from it
In various ways for years. Sometimes it burst out In
Ulcers on my bands and arms ; sometimes turned in
ward and dhtressedine at the stomach. Two years ago
it broke out on my heed and covered my scalp and ears
with one sore; which was painful and loathsome beyond
description. I tried many medicines and several physi
cians but without mo th relief from any thing. In fact,
the disorder grew worse. At length 1 was rejoiced to
read in the Gospel Messenger that you bad prepared an
alternative (Sarsaparilla,) for I know Item your rep
utation that any thing yob made must be good. I sent
to Gnolimati and got it, and used it all it cured me. I
took It, as you advise, in small doses of a teaspoonful
over a month, told wed almost three bottles. New and
healthy slin wen began to form under the scab, which
after a while fell off my skin is now clear, and I know by
my feelinga that the disease has gone from my system.
You can well believe that I feel what I am saying when
I tell you, that I hold yen to be one of the apostles of the

MAT 19, 1860,—Ellen S., set. 22 ;single, never was very
strong. Two years ago she hadan attack of acute rheum'.
tiam, trom which she was confined to her bed for two weeks
and subseqentl from a relapse for four more. She has been
well since then till lest Batur day, while engaged to house
deeming, she took cold, had pain in her back, felt cold,
bet had so decided chill. Two days later her anklet be.
gan so swell, which was followed by swelling of the
knee Joints and of the bands. Bbe has now dull
pain in her shoulders, and her knuckles are very leader,
red and painful; both hands are affected bat the right
is meet ao. This, then, is a case of acute rheumatism, or,
as it Is now fashionably called, rheumatic fever. Ilia a
well remarked typical ease We will carefUtly watch the
Cake, and from Urns to time call your attention to the vari
ous symptoms which preach themselves. My chief object
in bringing her before you now, Is to call attention to a
remedy winch has recently been reoom mended In the
treatment of rheumatism. lot met propyl anise. Dr.
Awenarius, of a. Petersburg, recommends It In the
highest terms, havingteriveu great uenefit from Its use
In 250 cases which came under his care. Various com
mendatory testimonials respecting It have appeared in
our journals, and propose therefore to give it another
trial. I must confess lam always incredulous as to the
worth of new remedies, which atm vaunted as specifies ;
out this comes to us recommended so highly, that we
are bound to give It a trial.
EitaiLE CASE FOUR DAYS 14TRS
Mar 23,1860.-1 will now exhibit to you the patient for
whom 1 prescribed Propylamine, and was thee labor
ing under an attack of acute rheumatism., She his
steadily taken it ut doses of three grains every two hone
iii i tatermitting it a 4 night.) The day after you saw her, 1
tumid her much more confertable, better than she ex-
pected to be for a week or more, Judging from her other
attack.. (the patientnew walked into tan room.) The
improvement has steadily p and you cannot
tall to notice a Marked change o the appearance of her
Johns, which are now nearly ail or their natural size.—
Thus far our experiment would have seemed very suc
cessful ; but, gentlemen, we must wait . a little while be
fore we mime a decided opinion la to what is to be
the result. •
Here tq another patient who was placed on the use of
the same medicine on Sunday last; she has long been
suffering from c Urania rheumatism, and I fOund her at
that time with an acute attack aaperverdng upon her
chronic atrection. The wristi and knuckles were moat
swollen and tease. She took the chloride of Propyla -
mine in three grain doles every two bears, and 7011 will
perceive that the swelling of the joints has much dimin
ished.
THREE DAYS LATER It
liar 26, 1860.—Thin;s the case of acute rheumatism
treated with propylamine, the first of those to which I
called your attention at our last clinic. OM Is still very
comfortable, and is now tildes three grains thrice daily.
In this case it has seemed to be followed by very. eat-.
lefaelory results. The second c .Se to which your atten
tion was called at our last lecture, has also continued to
do well. I will now bring before you a very chuacter
tabu case of acute rheumatism, and if the result be set.
factory, I think, as good jurymen,, we stall justly render
our verdict In favor of propy, lamln -
He le a seaman, mt. 28, who was admitted a few days
ago. Has had ocsasional rheumatic pains, but not so as
to keep his bed, until eight days ago. The pains .Regan
MIAs right knee, subsequently affected the left knee, and
later, we Minuet she upper extremities.' Item pinta
are all swollen, tense add tender. His tongue is furred ;
his akin, at present dry, though there has bean much
ea
swting. His pulse WWI and strong, and about DO.—
He has now used propylamine fir twenty-four boars.
This gentleman Is what may be called a strictly typical
case of acute rheumatism. .Tbere was expetsure to cold
are wet, and this exposure is followed by a feeling of
coldness, severe articular pain, beginning, 'as It usually
does, in the lower joints. There is fever and the proton
sweating, so generally atitendant on acute rheumatism.
I did net bring this patient before you - with the inten
tion of giving you a lecture on all the points connected
with rheumatism,' but to again give a trial to the
new remedy we are testing, and to exhibit to yon ibla
typical case, as I have celled it, than which there on uld
not be a fairer opportunity for testing thit'lnedicin ein
question. We are, therefore, avoiding the ; use of all
other medicines, even anodynes, that theed may be no
misgivings as to which was the efficient remedy. ; Toe
shad see the ease 01 a future clinic.
THE RESULT
A FAVORABLE VERDICT.
Jturz9, 1860.—The next of our contudescents is ;the
case of acute rheumatism before you at our elide of Maf
26th, which I then called a typical case, and which it
was remarked was• a fair Opportunity for • testing the
worth of our now remedy, It was therefore steadily
given In three grain dosed every two hours mr fenr days:
The patient hag got along very nicely, andbi now able CO
ea& shoat, as you see. Ido not hesitate to aty that,
have neves seen as severe a calm of acute rheumatisui
so soon restored to health as this man has been, and
without being prepared to decide positive by as to the val •
no of the remedy we have used, I feel bound to state
that in the eases in which we have tried theSibloride of
Propplamine, the patients have regained their. health
much earlier than under the treatment ordinarily par
sued. I wish gentlemen, you would yourselves try it,
and report the remits.
For a full report of which the above is a eondeoaed
extract, see the Philadelphia Medical and Advice& Re—
porter. It is the report after a fair trial by the best med
ical authority In this country, and makes it unnecessary
to give numerous certificates from astonished doctors
and rejoicing patients.
