hair could ever be restored to its original color except
from dyes. I was, however, greatly surprised to find
after the use of two bottles only, that not only was the
falling off arrested, but the color was restored to the gray
hairs and sensibility to the scalp, and dandruff ceased to
form on my head, very much to the gratification of my
wife, at whose solicitation I was induced to try it.
For this, among the many obligations I owe to her sex,
strongly recommend all husbands who value the ad
miration of their wives to profit by my example, and
use it it growing gray or getting bald.

inherited a Screfulaus infection, I have suffered from It
in various ways for years. Sometimes it burst • out in
Ulcers on my hands and arms ; sometimes turned in
ward and distressed me at the stomach. •Two years ago
It broke out on my head and covered my scalp and ears
with one sore, which was painful and loathsome beyond
description. . I tried •many medicines and several physi
cians bat without much relict' from any thing:' 'ln fact,
the disorder grew Worse. At length 1 was reloiced.to
read in the Gospel Messenger that you had prepared an
alternative (Sarsaparilla,) for I knew from your reit•
elation that any thing you made must be good. I gent
to Cincinnati and gotiit and used it till it cured me. I

took it, as you' advise, n small doses of a teaspoonful
over a month; and used almost three bottles. New and
healthy skn soon began. to form under. the scab, which
after a while fall off my akin is now clear, and I know by
my feelings that the disease has gone from my system.

I tell you, that I bold you to be one of the apostles of the

MAy 19, 18130,—Ellea S., mt. 28, single, never was very
strong. Two years ago she had an attack of acute rhenma
lism,from which she was confined to her bed for two weeks
and subseqenLy from arelapse for four more. She has been
well since then till last Satur day, while engaged in house
cleaning, she took cold, bad pain in her back, felt cold,
hot had so decided chill. Two day s later her ankles be
gan so swell, which was followed by swelling of the
knee joints and of the hands. She has now dull
pain in her shoulders, and her knuckles are very tender,
red and palnftil ; both harms are affe. led, but the right
is most so. This, then, is a case of acute rheumatism, or,
as it is now fashionably called, rheumatic lever. his a
well remaraed typical case We will carefully watch the
case, and from time to time call your attention to tile vari
,OdS symptoms which present themselves. My chief object
in bringing her before you now, is to call attention to a
remedy which has recently been recom mended in the
treatment of rheumatism. I m propyl amine. Dr.
Awenarius, of St. Petersburg, recommends it in the
highest .terms, having derived great tient:lilt from its use
.n 250 cases which came under his care. Various co m
mendatory testimonials respecting it have appeared in
our journals, and I propose therefore to give it another
trial I must confess lam always incredulous as to the
worth of new remedies, which are vaunted as specifies ;
nut this comes to us recommended so hiAhly, that we
are bound to give it a-trial.

MAT 28, 1860.—1 will now exhibit to you the patient fur
whom I proscribed Propylaratne, and was then labor
ing under an attack ot acute rheumatism. She has
steadily taken it in doses of three grams every two hour:"

tdund her much more comfortable, better than she ex
pected to be for a week or more, Judging from her ot her

improvement has steadily progressed, and you cane ot
fail to notice a marked change in the appearance of her
joints, which arencew nearly all of their natural size.—
Thus far our experiment would have seemed very suc
cessful ; but, gentlemeo, we must wait a HUD while be
fore-we can give a decided, opinion as to what 18 to be
the result.
Here is another-patient who was placed on the nee of
the same medians on Sunday last ; she has Mug been
suffering from e ironic rheumatism, and tuund her at
that time with an acute attack supervening upon her
chronic affection. The wrists and knuckles were much

do welt. I will now bring before you a very cuaracter
istio case of acute theurnatism,aad if the result be tit at
factory, I think, as good jurymen, wa suall justly render
our verdict in favor of propylamine.
He is a seaman, mt. 29, who was admitted a few days
ego. Has ha 4 ocaasional rheumatic pains, but not so as
to keep his bed, until eight days ago. The pains began
in his right knee, subsequently affected the loft knee, sue
later, toe Joints of the upper extremities. 'HMSO joints
are all swollen, tense anti tender.: His tongue is furry d ;
his skin, at present dry, though there has been mu oh
sweating. Ilia pulse is fall and strong, and about 90.
He has now used oropylamine for twenty-four hours.
This gentleman is what may be called a strictly typical
case of acute rheumatism. There was exposure t 0 cold
and wet, and this exposure is followed by a feeling of
coldness, severe articular pain, beginning, as it usu ally
does, in the lower joints.- there is fever snit the profuse
sweating, so generally atttendant on acute rheumatism.
1 did not bring this patient before you with the i ten
lien of giving you a lecture on all the points connected
with rheumatism, but to again give a trial w tie
nets remedy we are testing, and 'to exhibit to you th is
