Scrofula and Scrofulous Affection such
as Tumors, Ulcers, Sores, Eruptions,
Pimples, Pustules, Blotches, Boils,
Blains, and all bkin Diseases.
OAKLAND, Ind., 6th June, 1859.
J. C. dna & Co., Gents : I reel it my duty to ack owl -
edge what your Sarsaparilla has done for me. Having
inherited a Scrofulous infection, I have suffered from it
in various ways for years. Sometimes it burst out in
Ulcers on my hands and arms ; sometimes turned in
ward and distressed me at the stomach. Two years ago
it broke oat on my head and covered my scalp and ears
with one sore, whieh was painful and loathsome beyond
description. I tried many medicines and eeveralphysi
clans, bat without much relief from any thing. In fact,
the disorder grew worse. At length I was reJoiced to
read in the Gospel Messenger that you bad prepared an
iditernative (Sarsaparilla,) for I knew from your rep
utation that any thing you made must be good. I sent
to Cincinnati and got it, and used it till it cured me. I
took it, as you advise, in small doses of a teaspoonful
over a month, and used almost three bottles. New and
healthy skn seen began to form under the scab, which
after a while fall off my skin is now clear, and I know by
my feelings that the disease has gone from my system.
You can well believe that I feel what lam saying when
I tell you, that I hold you to be one or the ayostlet of the
age, and remain ever gratefully. Yours,
ALFRRD B. TALLEY.

cases of Leuoorrixes by It, and some where the com

knowledge equate it f.ar these female derangements."
Edward 8. Marrow, of Newbury, Ala., writes, "A dan

Mgr 19, IgBo,—Files S., mt. 28, single, never was very
Strong. Two years ago she had an attack of acute rheum'.
Usm,trom which she was confined to her bed for two weeks
and subseeentf from ti relapse fir four more. Sheilah been
well since then till last Saturday, while engaged in house
cleaning, she took cold, had pain in her back, felt cold,
hot had no decided chill. Two day a later her antics be.
gun so swell, which was followLd by swelling of the
ee Joints and of the hands. She has new- dell
pain in her .shoulders, and herknucklee are 'very tender,
red and painful ; both hands are affe.ted, but the right
is meatt so. This, then, is a case of acute rheumatism, or,
as it is now fashionably called, rheumatic lever. his a
well restarted typical case We will carefully watch the
cam, and trom time to time call your attention to the vars
ode symptoms which present themselves. 'My chief obieitt
in bringing her before you now, is to call attention to a
remedy which has recently been recommended In the
treatment of rheumatism. Im an people. amige . Dr.
Awenitrius, of St. Petersburg, recommends It in the
hlgbeet terms, having derived great celiac from its use
in MO eases which tame under his care. Various co to
mendstory testimonials respecting it have appeared In
our Journals, and I propose therefore to give it another
trial. I must confess Lsm always incredulous as to the
worth of new remedies, whiett are vaunted as apeoilles ;
but this comes to us recommended so highly, that we
are bound to give it a trial.
SAME CASE FOUR DAYS LATER !
11,tv 25,1890.-1 will now exhibit to you the patient for
whorti I prescribed Propytamine, and wa s thea labor
ing under an attack of acute rheumatism. She has
steadily taken it In doses of three grates every two hour.i
(intermittmg if at night.) The day after you saw her, X
bound bar tom% more, comfortable, better than she etc
pectedlio be for a week or more, judging from her of her ;
anent. (the patient now walked low Oa room.) Thal
improvement has steadily progressed, and you causal
fall to notice a marked change in toe appearance of bent
jointst whichare now nearly all of their attend sixe.-1
Thus Xkr our experiment would have seemed very sue
andel but, gentletueu, we must watt a little while be.
fore we can give a decided opinion AS to What In t 0 ti
the result.
Here is another padeut who was placed on the use of
the same medluloe on Sunday last ; she has long boon
suffering from.° nrouic rheumatism, and 'I found her at
that WWI with tin acute -attack supervening upon her
chronic affection. The wrlsti and knuckles were Much
swollen and twee. She took the chloride of Propyli•
mtnefin three grain do.es every two hours, and you will
pensive that Me swelling of thejoials has mush dtmia•

our Tartlet in favor if propylamme. •
Hit is a seaman, at. 28, wbo was admitted a few days;

to keep his bed, until eight days ago. The pains began

Wei toe loons of the upper eiwoottlieti. ' These joints
are all swollen, tense cum tender. His tongue is furred ;
hie n, st present dry•, though there has been mu oh

He DOW used propylamlue for twenty-four hours.
..~111111 may be called a strictly typhoid
ir-aoliterhetunallem. Ttiere was exposure to obid
end wet, and this exptainte is followed oy a fooling of
coldness, severe articular pain, beginning, as it usually
dots; in the lowerJante. there is fever and the profuse
swatting, so generadly atUendant on acute. rheumatism.
1 did not bring thia patient oefore you with the Inten
tion bf giving you &lecture on all the plata connected
with rheumatism, but to again give a trial to the
uowiremedy we are tasting, and to exhibit to ,you tit is
typlial case, as I have called it, titan wawa mere no uld
not be a fairer opportunity for testing the medicine in
question. We are, therefore, avoiding the use of all
other medicines, even ano types, that titers may bs no
mlsgivutga as to which was the efficient remedy. You
shad see the case of a future clinic.
THE RESULT
A FAVORABLE VERDICT
Rung, 1860.—The next of our convalescents is ;the
case of acute rheumatism bolero you at our (Weis of May
26th, which I theu called a typical case, and which It
wee remarked was a fair opportunity for testing the
worth of our new remedy, It was therelore steadily
given in three grain doses every two hours for four days.
The patient has got along vary tucely, and br now able to
alk about, as you see. Ido not hesitate to s to at. I
have nevea seen as severe a case of acute rhea watism
so sow restored: to health as this min has been, anu
without being prepared to decide positive oy as to the vat
ue or the remedy we have used, I feel bound to state
that in the cases In whloh we have tried the Chloride of
Propytanalue, the patients Nava regatned their health
much earlier than under the treatment ordinarily pur-
sued. I wish gentlemen, you would yourselves try it,
and, report the results.
For a full report of which the above , Is a condensed
extract, see the Philadelphia Medical and Surgical Re
porter. It is the report after a fair trial by the best wed
lOU authority in this country, and makes It unnecessary
to give numerous certificates from astonished doctors
and rejoicing putouts. •
