lfsw Never. ExpsnErross.—Gen. Butler is
actively at work in Boston getting off his sea
coast expedition. One of the largest steamers
ever built in this country (the Constitution) is
engaged as a transport for this expedition, and
will, with other transports, take about five
thousand troops on a special service, which is
kept secret. The operations along the coast
should be pushed forward rapidly, and every
available point secured early. The fleet will
then have leisure to look after our interests in
the gulf, which are now threatened by the ex
pedition of the combined powers of Spain and
France in Mexico. The presence of a strong
naval force like that which we will be able to
assemble in a short time in these quarters will
be a check upon any ulterior movements on the
part of the allies, if such be their purposi, as is
intimated.
THE ARMY or znz Wzsr.—Since General
Hunter has taken command of the army of the
West, he has stopped the Quixotic march of
Fremont down through southern Missouri and
Arkansas for New Orleans. Price retreated be
fore him to get Fremont to march his army FO
far from his supplies, satisfied that he could cut
him off at any point that he choose to make a
stand. Fremont had not military brains
enough to comprehend Price's strategy , and on
he went to his ruin, which his siipercedure for
tunately prevented. Gen. Hunter immediately
stopped this movement, seeing at a glance its
great danger, and is about reorganising the
army for an advance down the Missimaippi.
