Lours, Oct. 28 [Special to the St. Louis Republican.] Damp RIORAILDSON, Bolivar, Polk county, Saturday night, Oct. 26. -r Gen. Fremont and staff arrived at Bolivar, Polk county, sixteen miles from Camp Harris son, and encamped this evening on the out skirts of the town. Bolivar, like nearly all the towns in southern Missouri, is almost entirely deserted. The stores being all closed and many of the houses abandoned. LINE. It is now ascertained that the loss of Fre mont's body guard in the brilliant charge at Springfield was from six to eight killed and Mama rivantLea: A number of most brilliant instances of dar ing were shown on our side. One sergeant had three horses shot from under him, and a rebel placed a pistol to Begonia' breast and was in the very act of firing when the Major severed his arm from the shoulder and laid him dead at the horse's feet. Col. Carr's Third Illinois Cavalry and Major Holman's Sharp Shooters have left here for Springfield, and one regiment of Siegel's divis ion will march there at midnight. . Gen. Fremont and staff and Siegel's division depart by forced marches for Springfield at day - light to-morrow morning, and will probably arrive there in the evening. Gen. licKinstry was two miles north of Warsaw last night. Gen. Pope was this side of the Osage and Hun ter in advance of him, all marching to this point. Nothing further . from Price and no news o McCulloch. [Special to the St. Louis Democrat.] T/PXON, Mo., Oct. 28.—General Kennady, who has just returned to Sedalia from Price's army, says, Price's men are much dissatisfied at the prospect of leaving the State, and that they will force him to made a stand within our borders. On the other hand it is asserted that Gen. Johnston has left Kentucky to take command of Price's and McCulloch's forces, and that be fore leaving that State he sent couriers to Price and McCulloch directing them to fall back into Arkansas and not give Fremont battle until he could reach them. Gen. Kennedy says Fremont will have a much larger force to contend against than he imagines. Considerable numbers of Price's rebels are arriving in this section daily, and it is feared they will renew their plundering habits as soon as our troops leave. ViErte):4:l9, , i 1.4 Cotton firm. The deaths of the following Pennsylvania soldiers in the hospitals here are announced : William Morris, Twelfth regiment; Edward Bennett, Fourth ; Allen Esenbraun, Forty seventh, and Clinton Hoyt, Company C, Har lan's Cavalry. The Navy Department has ordered the com mander of the steamer Keystone State, (just ar rived at Philadelphia with a prize,) under arrest for coming North without orders. The official reports of the battle of Ball's Bluff are to be made public in a day or two, and thus the people will_see who is to blame for this great blunder. General McCall has'been entirely exhonor ated from the charge made in certain journals that he retreated from Drainesville after the Ball's Bluff battle began. Large numbers of the relatives of the soldiers who were killed and wounded in the late battle have arrived here from Philadelphia and Bos ton, and have gone to-day to the scene of the disaster. A Dalghren gun (a fifty-pounder) rifled, made from Pennsylvania iron, has been tested at the Navy Yard. It did not burst until two hun dred and four heavy charges had been tired from, and strength of the iron. A gun made of Michigan hon is now being tried. The Navy Department has information that the Massachusetts (Captain Alden) has cap tured, on the Texas coast, two vessels loaded with arms and munitions of war. The second vessel captured had, among other things, four thousand Enfield guns. Yesterday the rebel steamer George Page was cruising about in the Potomac, in the part cov ered by the rebel batteries, throwing shells into the camps of General Sickles' division, on the Maryland shore, in such a lively manner that our troops were obliged to fall inland a short distance. VERY PARTICIMAR.-A laughable incident is told of a nervous man, who imagined himself very sick ; reports were in the neighborhood that he was given over by the doctor. He was observed early in the day making rapid strides through the streets. His alarmed neighbors met him. " How are you, friend?" " Sick, very sick." " Where now? " " After some one to sit up with me to-night; I am so plagued for watchers that there is no one I can depend upon." DON'T PAY.—Semi•military gentlemen in the habit of sporting undress uniforms find them selves in trouble in Washington. The Provost Marshal's patrols ask all such for their passes. When they answer that "they do not belong to the army," the captain of the Guard tells them that if they don't want to be put in the guard house they had better take off that uniform. A &lams Fur, SAFETY.—"GIory - be to God," shouted an excitable gentleman to John J. Crittenden, "Mc'clellan is sending 20,000 men from Washington to Cincinnati, for Kentucky. We're safe now." "Safe I" exclaimed the veteran Senator, "doesn't it blister your tongue to tell it ? Safe ! by Ohio and Indian troops, while Kentuckians allow themselves to be pro tected by others. It's a shame to old Ken tucky, sir." COMPENSATION.-Quilp hearing a lady reading lately, in a newspaper, that in certain parts of Wales it is the custom to plant thorns and thistles on the graves of old bachelors, remark ed, "That is another instance of the great law of compensation. If one escapes thorns and thistles .in life, he must expect them after death. COTTON ix Mmi:encrs.—The Memphis Appal of the 28th ult., says about 100 bales of cotton per day are coming in. One hundred and sixty three bales came in one day. Hope is enter tained that it can be smuggled through the blockade. The editor is indignant that the planters do not hold back their cotton, instead of thus furnishing a tempting prise to the enemy. Maas Mask.—The funniest thing published recently is the paragraph about the tone of bul lets. Some gay soldier boy says he caught the pitch of a large sized Minie—it was a swell from E flat to F, and as it passed into the dis tance and lost its velocity, receded to D—a very pretty change.
