In this unpleasant predicament, I was induced to try
Wood', Hair Restorative, mainly to arrest the falling

hair could ever be restored to its onginal color excep.
from dyes. I was, however, greatly surprised to find
rfter the use of two boitles only, that not only was the
falling oft arrested, but the color was restored to the gray
hairs and sensibility to the scalp, and dandruff ceased to
form on my head, very mace to the gratification of my

For this, among the many obligations I owe to her sex,
I strongly recommend all husbands who value the ,d-

use it if growing gray or getting bald.

THE EFFECT . OF SECRETARY SEWARD'S
CIRCULAR IN NEW YORK.
The circular of Secretary Seward caused a
a depression in stocks to-day, especially in gov
ernment BeCurities, it being supposed by some
that the Elecretazy of State was in possession of
knowledge rehitive to foreign movements which
prompted the Issuing of such a document. Gov
ernment 6's of 1881 declined about 2 per cent,
and some leading stocks' fell off nearly four per
cent. The noon *market, however, closed slightly
more steady. .

God, to the human soul,
And all tho epheres that roll,
Wrapped by His Spirit in their robes cit light,
Ilath said—" The primal plan
Of all the worlds, and man,
Is Forward I Progress is your law—your right!"
The.depote of the earth,
Since Freedom had her birth,
Have to their subject nations said--" Stand
still 1"
So, from the Polar Bear,
Comes down the freezing air,
And stiffens all things with its deadly ohill.
He who doth God resist—
God's old antagonist—
Would snap the chain that binds all things to
Him ; .
And, in his Godless pride,
AU people would divide,
And scatter even the choirs of seraphim. •
God all the orbs that roll
Bind to one common goal—
One source of light and life—blis radiant forM
In one fraternal mind
All races would he bind, ,
Till every mania man a brother owns
Tyrants with tyrants league,
Corrirption and Intrigue
To strangle infant Liberty conspire.
Around her cradle, then,
Let self devoted men
Gather, and keep unquenched her vital Am.
Ye toward her temple at your peril march I"
"Stop," that great host replies,
Raising to heaven its , eyes,—
"Stop, lust, the host that moves across tan
arch ! "
When Tyrranny commands,
"Hold thou my victim's bands,
While I more firmly river in on his chains,
Or, with my. Bowie knife,
I'll take your craven life,
Or show my streets bespattend with your
brains I "
Freedom, with forward. tread,
Unblenelling turns her head, -
And drawing from its sheath her fleshing gime,
Calmly makes answer—".bare
Touch of my head one hair,
/// cut the chord that holds your every slave!"
Tits Fua Ta.s.ns.—The trade info's generally
commences about the Ist of October, and' at
present the business is quite brisk among the
numerous dealer& throughout the city. Mink
sable and Siberian squirrel furs are those most
in demand, and are maisidered moat fashionable.
Although the demand for this class of furs is
very great, yet, owing to the great supply and
the facility with whicii. they are obtained, the
prices are moderate. The best quality of mink
table is found in Maine ; it is also procured in
the Hudson Bay regions, the North-west, and
fottnd in small quantities in this State.
The most expensive of all furs is the Russian
sable, which sell from $6OO to $1,500 per set
This quality of fur is very scarce, and, besides,
their exportation from Ramie has been prohib
ited bY- I *Ernperor. Those ,that reach this
countivOssinitiggled away. The Hudson Rap
ibicrianititscarce and expensive, beizigt4
sold as high as $lOO to $6OO per set.
The opossum and muskrat furs abound in
great quantities and are easily obtained. Fitch
is but little in demand, although a few years
since it was much sought after. Buffalo skins
are obtained in Minnesota, Dakota, Nebraska,
Kansas, and northern Texas. Each year this
animal becomes scarcer, and before many years
they will doubtless be extinct. The animals are
shot by the Indians and others, who sell the
skins to traders. The hides are worth from
three to twelve dollars a piece: The finest skins
are greatly in demand by military officer's, who
use them instead of blankets, fur which they
are found far superior.
Most of the beaver skins bought by the 'deal
era in Yhilacielphia, are shipped by them toßng
bind, where they are used extensively fur cloak
linings. This animal is found among the Rocky
Mountains, and in the British Dominions, and
does not, as many suppose, decrease eachltari
although, it is said, they push farther West.
The quantity of beaver skins obtained this year
is equally as great as has been puxured• for
several years back. Very few are now found
about Lake Superior, where a , few years since
they were &Lied in great numbers.

The detailers of the largest cities resort to
numerous tricks by which they can dye furs of
a common quality, and give them the appear
ance of those more rare. The price of all furs
varies according to their shades of color, and
their scarcity.
