The Itebeis,.htainractaring Cannons at Lexington. Large Discoveries of Ammunition at Lexington. Mk NUMBER OF RTIMIB AT 4111IFTON They are Determined to Make a Stand. A Rebel Regiment Take the Uniform of Col. Mulligan's Dien. UNION MEN IMPRESSED INTO THE REBEL RANKS. NOVEMINTB OP GEM ,FBEKONT• Lieut. Colonel fihacher of Colonel Peabody's regiment and Lieutenant Lemalt of Colonel Marshall's regiment, who were at Lexington, have arrived here and give some interesting particulars from that place. They. say the rebels tan easily turn out and probably will three twelve pounders per week at the Lexing ton foundry, and that they are very busy in makiog balls of all kinds.. They report that the rebels have a large amount of• powder and amunition of every variety buried in the vi; cinity. of Lexington, and that they have recent ly dug up a great deal. Two thousand rounds of loaded shell were dis covered by the rebels in Mulligan's entrench ments on the very day of the surrender, our troops having no idea of-their concealment, and they were deposited there three months. It is said that vast amounts of ammunition are `buried in different quarters of the West • and South, having been sent out from Jefferson City by Gov. Jackson before he fled from here. Our troops would have destroyed the powder in their possession if they would have had any water or had they not feared an explosion that must have proved fatal in their narrow entrench- A female rebel of high social standing at Lexington obtained admission to Mulligan's for= tification•diagaised. as a mulitto washerwoman and took a complete sketch and plan of the works and reported her information to the rebels. It is believed the rebels have from forty to fifty thousand men at Lexington, and are daily receiving reintbrcements. They will make and stand their ground if attacked by our troops. It is supposed that Price will in two or three weeks have from seventy to eighty thousand there, and will meet us with that number of the rebels. The two officers say they fight well, and that our mistake has been that we always underate them. The rebels at Lexington are receiving pro visions in large quantities from the adjacent country, wagon loads arriving every day, and they have, it is said, every means of support. Green's, Rain's, and Parson's troops are repre sented as a mere mob, being half clothed, and without discipline, no one seeming to hold a less rank than that of colonel. Birds' soldiers, seven thousand in number, are very well drilled, and execute all their -manoeuvres in thorough military style. One of the rebel rigimente hay-. ing helped themselves to the uniforms of Col. Mulligan's troops, are now called the iris' h Brigade- Lieut. Colonel Thatcher and Lieutenant Le.. malt leave here by - boat for Lexington this morning ;,they willreturn with the wounded Federal troops now in the hands of the rebels. There is about one hundred in number. Be fore they left Lexington they obtained a writ ten permit from (General Sterling Price granting protection to any boats which might go to Lex ington for that purpose. Gemini Fremont has approved of this action and they will start this morning. These offi cers say our troops were treated most kindly by the rebel officers, whom they pronounce high toned, honorable and generous gentlemen.— The gallant conduct of Col's, Mulligan, White and Grover, are highly eulogized, and all our soldieri are enthusiastic in theirpraise. Maj. Suit who had command of the tegalir troops at Wilson's creek has geceived permission to take, consmand of Ihe eighth lowa regiment. It is understood that his battalion of regulars will be Incorporated in the regiment. Advices from Salino countyreport the rebels are overrun ning that section'of country with scouting par ties whio are impressing Union citizens into the rebel ranks and levying upon their goods. Gen. Fremont went into camp yesterday, morning about half a mile back of the town, and itis said will not move forward before the claw of the week. The health, of t h e soldiers is improving. Not a death has occurred in the hospital for three days, an unusual occurrence, and thirty or forty will be discharged to-day. BIOOND DISPATCH. A Lrrna COMMIS; Gamtamts.—Our expa. rienoe has led us to concur in the remark of an intelligent cotemporary, that the good spirits help the man who is obliged to ark even the slightest courtesy from some of our new-fledged military officers who have lately fallen into such good fortune as to be the possessors of a lita„ brief authority. The impudent and silly re plies of these soldier-clad civilians operates upon a man something in the manner of a tre panning of the brain is represented to act upon. one's constitution. The style in which some of these upstarts flounder about in a little pool of glory of their own creation is too rediculous to laugh at. Men who are known, root and branch, at their own homes, to be gentlemen in every sense of the term, are treated with the greidat indignity where these :fellows Wei office, and youth and gray hairs meet with a similar reception.
