DE. JOHNSFON
Dr. Johnson member of the Royal College of Surgeons,
London, graduate from one of the most eminent Colleges
of the United States, and the greatest part of whose life
liisw been spent in the Hospitals of London, Paris, Phila
delphia and elsewhere, has eifected some of the most as
tonishing cures that were ever known. Many troubled
with ringing in the ears and head when asleep, great ner
vousness, being alarmed at sudden sounds, bashfulness,
with frequent blushing, attended sometimes with derange
ment of mind were cured immediately,
TARE PARTICULAR NOTICE.
Dr. d. to, eases all those who having injured them-
selves by priv.to and improper indulgencies, that secret
and solitary • abit which ruins both body and mind, an.
fitting them for either business or society.
Thea, are some of the end and melancholy en iris pro
duce.. by early habits of youth, viz : Weakness of the
Back and Limbs, Pains in the Head, Thinness of loghy
Lao of Muscular Power, Palpitation of the heart, DyL
pepsis, Nervous Irritability, Derangement of the Digestive
Fanctlons, General Debility, Symptoms ol Uonsump
lion, &c.
IiENTALLY
MINTALLY, the fearful effects on the mind are muen to
be dreaded :—Loss of Memory, Confusion of Ideas, Lie
pression of Spirits, Evil Forebodings, Aversion tot.scie
ty, Self•distrust, Love of Solitude, Timidity, Sts , are some
of the evil effects.
Thousands of persons of all ages, can now judge what
la the cause of their decline in health, losing their vigor,
becoming weak,-pale, nervous and emaciated, have a
singular appearance about the eyes, cough, and symp•
me of consumption,
YOUNG MEN
who have injured themselves by a certain practice, in
duiged lu when alone—a habit frequently learned from
eon Jompanions, or at school, the sheets 01 which are
nightly felt, even when asleep, and if not cured, renders
marriage impossible, and destroys both mind and body,
should apply immediately.
What a pity that a young man, the hopes of his coon.
try, the darling of his parents, should be snatched from
all prospects and enjoyments of life by the consequences
of deviating from the path of nature, and indulging in a
certain secret habit. Su:hp:none must, before content,
plating
mARRIAGE,
effect that a sound mind and body are the most necessary
requisites to promote connubial happiness. Indeed
without these, the journey through life becomes a weary
pilgrimage; the prospect hourly darkens to the view; the
mind becomes shadowed with despair, and tilled with the
melancholy reflection that the happiness of another be•
conies blighted with our own.
DR. JOHNSON'S INVIGORITING REHEDY„ FOR OR;
GANIC WEAKNMS
By this great and important remedy, Weakness-of MS
Organs are speedily cured, and full vigor restored:
Thousands of the moat nervous .and debilitated whe
had lost all hope, have been immediately relieved. All
impediments to Marriage, Physical or Menial Olsen&lin
eation, Nervous, Trembling, Weakness or kSimustion or
the most fearful kind, speedily cured.
TO STRANGERS
The many thousands cured at this Indiction -within tee
last twelve years, and the numerous important hurgicai
operations performed by Dr. J., witnessed by the re
porters of the papers, and many other persons, notices tr.
which have appeared again and again before the public,
Wider Ms standing as a gentleman or character and re
sponaility, is a sufficient guarantee to the aillicted.
OLSEARFfi OF IMPRUDENCE.—When the misguided
and imprudent votary or pleasure finds he has imbibed
the seeds of this painful disease, it too often happens that
an -timed sense of shame or dread of discovery deters
him from applying to those who, from education and re•
■poctability can alone befriend him, delaying till the con -
stitotional symptoms of this horrid disease make their
appearance, affecting the head, throat, nose, skin, So,
progressing on with frightful rapidity, till death puts a
period to his dreadful sufferings by sending him to "that
bourne from whence so traveler returns." It is a mei.
ancholy fact that thousands fall victims to this terrible
disease, owing to the unskilfulness oi ignorant pretend
ers, who, by the use of that deadly poison, mercury, ruin
the constitution and make the residue of the miserable.

47 Well Street, New York, Dec. 20th, 1858.
GENTLEMEN : Your note of the 15th inst., has been re
cleved, saying that you had heard that I had been bene
fited by the use of Wood's Hair Restorative, and retina:J.-
10g my certificate of the fact if I bad no 'ibjection to
give It.
I award it to you cheerfully, because.] tuiek it due.—
My ago is about 50 years ; the color of my hair auburn,
and inclined to curl. Some five or iI2C. y ears since it ne
gan to turn gray, and the scalp on the crown of my heal
to lose its nen:Polity and dandruifto feria it. Each
of these disagreeabilnirs increased witn time, and about
four months since a fourth was added to them, by hair
falling off the top of my head and threatening to make
me bald.
In this unpleasant predicament, I was induced to try
Wood's Hair Restorative, mainly to arrest the falling
off of my hair, for I had real.y no expectation that gray
hair could ever be restored to its original color excep.
from dyes. I was, however, greatly surprisod to find
after the use of two ho tles only, that not only was the
falling oft arrested, but the color was resturea to the gray
hairs and sensibility to the scalp, and dandruff ceased to
form on my head, very rattan to the gratification of my
wile, at whose solicitation I was induced to try it.
For this, among the many obligations I owe to her sex,
I strongly recommend all husbands who value the .d
-miration of their wiv a to pr , , it by my example, and
use 1 if growing gray or getting bald.
Very reipectluily, BEN. A. LAVENDER.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7.
The following order has just been promul

HEAD QUARTERS, ARMY OP THE POTOMAC, t
WAs.aniermr, Sept. 6th, 1861.
The Major General commanding desires and
requests that in future there may be a more
perfect respect for the Sabbath on the part of
his command. We are fighting in a holy cause
and should endeavor to deserve the benign fa_
vor of the Creator—unless in case of attack by
the enemy or some other extreme military ne
cessity, it is commanded to the commanding of
ficers that all work shall be suspended on the
Sabbath, that no unnecessary movements shall
be made on that day, that the men shall as far
as possible be permitted to rest from their la
bors, that they shall attend divine service after
the customary Sunday morning inspection, and
that officers and men alike use their infla ence
to insure the utmost decorum and quiet on that
day.
The General Commanding regards this as no
idle form, one day's rest in seven is necessary
for man and animals ; more than this, the ob
