Dr. Johnson member of the Royal College of Surgeons,
London, graduate from one of the most eminent College , .
of the United states, and the greatest part of whose life
has been spent in the Hospitals of London, Paris, Phila
delphia and elsewhere, has effected some of the most as
tonishing cures that were ever known. Many troubled
with ringing in the ears and head when asleep, great ner
vousness, being alarmed at sudden sounds, bashfulue9s,
with frequent blushing, attended sometimes with derange
client of mind were cured immediately,
TARE PARTICULAR NOTICE.
Dr. J. .t. dresses all those who having injured them
selves by ;rate and improper iudulgencies, that secret
and solitary t•abit which ruins both body and mind, un•
fitting them for either business or society.
Thos.- are some of the sad and melancholy eu. its pro--
dimea try early habits of youth, viz : Weakness of the
Back and Limbs, Pains in the Head, Dimness of Sight,
Loss of Muscular Power, Palpitation of the Heart, Dys
pepsia, Nervous Irritability, Derangement of the Digestive
Functions, General Debility, Symptoms of Consump.
lion, am,
Marrraur, the fearful effects on the mind are much to
b. dreaded :—Loss of Memory, Confusion 01 Ideas, De
pression of Spirits, Evil Forebodings, Aversion Mende
ty, Self-distrust, Love of Solitude, Timidity, &c., are some
of the evil effects.
Thousands of persons of all ages, can now judge what
is the cause of their decline in health, losing their vigor,
becoming weak, pale, nervous and emaciated, have a
singular appearance about the eyes, cough, and s3rnap
ms of consumption.
YOUNG MIN
who have injured themselves by a certain practice, in
attired in when alone—a habit frequently learned from
evil zonmanions, or at school, the effects of which are
sightly felt, even When asleep, and if not cured, renders
marriage Impossible, and destroys both mind and body,
should apply immediately.
What a pity that a young man, the hopes of his coon.
try, the darling of his parents, should be snatched trots
all prospects and enjoyments of life by the consequences
of deviating from the path of nature, and indulging in a
certain secret habit. St'uth persons must, before coulees
plating

effect that a sound mind and body are the most necessary
requisites to promote connubial happiness. Indeed
without these, the Journey through life becomes a weary
pilgrimage; the prospect hourly darkens to the view; the
mind becomes shadowed with despair, and ailed with the
melancholy reflection that the happiness of another be
comes blighted with oar own.
DR. JOHNSON'S INVIGORATING REMEDY FOR Olt,
By this great and Important remedy, Weakness of MI
Organs are speedily cored, and full vigor restored,
thousands of the most nervous and debilitated whe
nad lost all hope, have been Immediately relieved. All
impedimenta to Marriage Physical or Mental Disqualidl.
cation, Nervone, Trembling, Weakness or Rrhaustion or
the meet fearftd kind, speedily cured.
The many thousands Cured at this 'lnitiation within tne
last twelve years, and the numerous important Surgical
operations performed by Dr. J., witnessed by the re
porters of the papers, and many other persona, notices of
which have appeared again and again before the publio,
besides Ms rtanding as a gentleman of character and re
sportaiiity , is a sufficient guarantee to the afflicted.
DLcwhußie OF IMPRDDENOE.—When the misguided
and imprudent votary of pleasure finds he has imbibed
the seeds of this painful disease, it too often happens butt
an illtimed sense of shame or dread of discovery downs
him from applying to those who p from education and re
spectability can alone befriend him, delaying till the con.
etitutional symptom. of this horrid disease make their
appearance, affecting the head, throat, nose, skin, se.,
progressing on with frightful rapidity, till dealt/ puts a
period to his dreadful sufferings by sending him to "Mai
eourne from whence so traveler returns." It is a mei-
Anebely fact that thousands fall victims to this terrible
disease, owing to the unskilfulness of ignorant pretend
ers, who, by the use of that deadly poison, mercury, ruin
the eorustitution and make the residue of life miserable.

GOVERNMENT VIGILANCE ABOUT WAR NEWS
The Navigation on the Potomac,
RETURN OF SECRETARY CAMERON.
I=o=l
WASHLNGTON, Aug. 11
The Spanish minister pronounced to the Sec
retary of State yesterday that the seven
American vessels captured by the confederate
pirate Sumter, and carried into the port of Cien
fugos as prizes, have been discharged by orders
of his government.
Kinian Edwards, brother-in-law of President
Lincoln has been appointed on the staff of Gen.
McClernand with the rank of captain, and to
act as Commissary of the brigade.
Prince Napoleon took leave of the President
and returns direct to New York.
Ex-DliniAer Faulkner expressed no secession
sentiments, but is exceedingly non-committal.
Secessionists say that in a few weeks he will
enter the rebel army as a Brigadier General.
It is understood that the Government will
exercise the most vigorous measures to prevent
the publication or despatches or letters relating
to past, present or future movements of troops
in this region. It is idle to attempt to con
tinue the recent lenient agreement in the face
of its frequent violation, as we see every day.
The navigation of the Putomac has not been
interfered with, as has been recently reported.
Boats are arriving from Baltimore daily.
The officers of the Freeborn report that the
rebels are still using slaves to work on their
fortifications in Eastern Virginia.
Gen. Cameron returned to his post on Satur
day, after his visit to Pennsylvania.
Secretary Chase is understood to be meeting

FORTRESS AIONROE, August 10
The steamship Quaker City arrived this morn
ing with the prize schooner George Baker, of
Galveston, and her confederate crew of four
men in irons. The schooner was captured by one
of the United States blockading fleet off Gal
veston, and sent to New York with a United
States crew on board. She was captured yester
day off Cape Hatteras, by the rebel privateer
York, who put four of her own men on board.
In the meanwhile the York was seen by the
United States gunboat Union, who gave chase
and burnt the privateer, but not until the crew
had reached here and escaped.
The Union then recaptured the Baker, made
prisoners of her crew and transferred them to
day to the Quaker city. The United States prize
cr aw are still in the hands of rebels. Their names
are unknown. A flag of truce came down this
morning from Norfolk to make inquiries con
cerning several confederate officers whom they
supposed to be imprisoned here, among others
Colonel Pegram.
The few houses remaining in Hampton on
Thursday morning have not yet been destroyed
by the Confederates who are now near Great
Bethel. A white woman, an invalid, was burn
ed to death in the great conflagration.
It is reported that one of Gen. Magruder's
captains penetrated within our line of pickets
at Newport News and declared the place to be
too strong to be attacked.
A thousand rations are now issued to the con
trabands at Old Point. their services are in
valuable to Quartermaster Tallenage, who pro
vides for their various wants. They work with
alacrity.
The Captain and mates of the wrecked Eng
lish bark Glory, from Rio Janeiro to Baltimore,
with a large cargo of coffee, came from Norfolk
with the flag of truce. They sympathize strong
ly with the Confederates, and it is more than
probable that the Glory was purposely lost, as
the cargo was saved and sold at twice the or
dinary price. As an encouragement for this
manner of avoiding the blockade, the Con
federates paid promptly and treated the cap
tain with consideration.
