CONSTRUCTION OF WAR VESSELS.
The Havy Department is In receipt of a let
ter from Commander Goldsboro, of the United
states Steimer Union, dated Hampton Roads,
yesterday, in which he says the brig ashore
near Cape Haiteras, about which there was so
much speculation, proved to be the A. F. Kir
tin, of Boston,.which had beenin the possession
of the rebels_
Commander Goldsboro adds that 'the men
Were unloading her, when he sent out a laity
Who, after shelling the place, set fire to the ves
sel and effectually destroyed her cargo.
Itappears by other official advices from the
Gulf Squadron that on the fourth of July, off
Galveston, the 11. S. - steamer South Carolina
captured six schooners, on the fifth two, and
ran t one ashore; on the sixth one and on the
seventh one,,ntaking eleven sail destroyed or
captured.
The names of the captured vessels are the
Shark, Venus, Ann Rion, McCauffielri, Louisa
Dash, Coral, Falcon, George 'Baker and Sam
Houston: A portion of them had cargoes chiefly
of lumber. Among other things captured were
thirteen mail bags containing express Matta:
On the 18th of July off St. :Make, Florida,
the Mohawk - captured tho sloop George'B.
