COMMENDATIONS;
From Hon. Lewis D. Campbell, M. 0., Ohio.
My family and friends all concur in the opinion that
the (Newell) Picture is mere lifelike than anything they
ever saw. My likeness has been repeatedly taken by
different Artists in various ways, but I have never yet
has one which presents so true to nature, all the features
and expressions of countenance as this.
From Hon. E. Toy Morris, late Minister to Italy.
The exquisite Milan, beauty and softness of your por,
traits, conjoined with their durability of color and faith
fulness as likenesses, cannot fail to commend them to
the attention and patronage of all who appreciate true
rat.
Prcm Col. James Page.
Having occasion for a portrait, I procured one fro m
Mr. Robert Newell, of the olty or Philadelphia, a minia
ture in Oil Colors, tinder the new proCASS discovered by hint,
and take great pleasure la expressing the ea Limitation
given me, not only by the accuracy of the like nese, but.
Ito artistic Shish In all respects, cud recommend him to
the patronage of those disposed to encourage the beau
tiful art. JallY9 PAW.

will be full very soon.
The Journal of this morning has a letter dated
Knoxville, Tennessee, June 29th, saying that
eight companies of State cavalry and infantry
have gone from here to Cumberland and Wheel
ing Gap, to guard them and prevent the United
States troops from coming through from Ken
tucky, to the aid of the Union men of east
Tennessee. They have been encountered by
our native Union men in the mountains, who
swear they shall leave, and the rebel troops
have sent here for reinforcements.
The Journal adds, " we expect a bloody fight
at the mountain gaps for the posseision of the
field." The Journal says, "every breath of ours
is a heartfelt aspiration for the triumph of the
Star Spangled Banner."
The Courier says on the same subject, that it
takes it for granted that the authorities of Ten
nessee are informed of the introduction of arms
into the State, and that arrangements will be
made to take possession of every gun sent by
the Administration.
The Journal also says that Governor Jackson,
of Missouri, is in Nashville. No doubt an ex

southern border of the State. _

therefrom.
