ALL QUIET AT TEM OUTPOSTS.
The federal Pickets Within Eight Niles
of the City
=MEI
Aux&buyaret, June 21
All is quiet at the outposts. It has been ex
ceediugly quiet here to-day ; not even a rumor
afloat. The weather has been excessively hot,
preventing all unnecessary excitement. Re
ports fr<•m the outposts on the Loudon R. * 13.,
this evening are of a peaceful character, except
ing that the Confederate flag can be seen float
ing by the pickets two miles outside the camp.
The Orange, the Mat:tames Gap and Rare -
shire and Loudon Railroads ere looked to with
more interest by correepoz dents, as the seces
sion, pickets are reported to have approached
at times as near as Georges, about eight miles
from this city. The danger of being remove•i
to Richmonci, ahead of the army, prevents a
personal veriflcadon of these reports.

The Rifle Works Burned,—The
Shenandoah Bridge Destroyed,
atARBEsBmw, June 21
It is reported here that General Johnson's
rear guard had returned to the. Ferry and burn
ed the buildings of the government rifle wor ks
at that place ; the machinery had been pre
viously removed. The Shenandoah bridge,
a covered structure, about one-eigth of a mile
above the junction of the Shenandoah and Po
tomac, had also been partially destroyed. It
was not known whether the town had been re
occupied by the southern forces or whether the
troops bad been only charged with the des
truction of the ride works and bridge, and af
terwards retired. Later accounts confirm the
above.

The vivandleres were numerous, tea itleast
