Clle Criegrapij+ ARRIVALS OF MILITARY. Last evening a company of fully ore hun dred men, accompanied by a brass band, ar rived here from Chester Valley, and went into quarters at Camp Curtin. Three companies in all reached here yesterday, and others are ex pected to follow today. The whole number of volunteers now in camp in this city is about three thousand, and the work of forming them into regiments is progressing as rapidly as possible. THE PENNSYLVANL4 ARMY, The military force that has been assembled at and near Chambersburg, within a few weeks, consists almost entirely of Pennsylvanians.— The whole number must now reach quite fif teen thousand men, all infantry except a force of about four hundred regular cavalry and the first City Troop of Philadelphia. Maj. Gen. Patterson is in command of this Pennsylvania army, which has probably already begun to advance into Maryland, with a view to the ultimate occupation of Harper's Ferry. Al though this force consists altogether of new levies, the material of which it is com posed is excellent, and we expect to hear a good account of its operations before many days. BY TELEGRAPH. Flash Accounts of Southern anntary v tut ClItS ACTIVITY IN THE NAVY YARD. Telegraphic Communication with the Advance Troops. Report of the Retreat of Rebels from Harper's Ferry not Confirmed. I= WASHINGTON, June 5 No advance movement has been made in Virginia, as far as is known in Washington at this moment. But there is a great deal of ac tivity and an unusual amount of secrecy which excite expectation and curk, sity. The army in Virginia is kept constantly ready for any sud den attack from the enemy. The Government has accepted the services of the iron "railroad battery constructed is Phila delphia some time ago for the Philadelphia and Baltimore Railroad. It will be uted in the Southern movement of the army, for the de fence of such railroads as the Government may repair and employ for military purposes. Several locomotives and two hundred and fifty horses, for the use of the army, arrived here to-day from Pennsylvania. It is understood that General . Scott disap proves of sending a force to land at Acquia Creek, not deeming it a point of sufficient im portance to risk any number of men. The Government has not yet decided what disposition to make of Bartlett's Naval Brigade. The morning papers here are filled with flash accounts of immense movements of troops Southward last night. But there is not a word of truth in them. There is great activity at the Washington Navy Yard. Shells, grape and canister shot, Minnie balls and percussion caps are turned out in vast quantities. The steamer Monti cello has been repaired and strengthened, and she will receive two additional 32-pounders. The Pensacola, (sioop-of-war,) carrying forty four guns, besides a long pivot gun, will soon be ready for service. The Government has sent a quantity of tele graph wire across the river. The intention is to keep up communication with the War De partment as the troops advance. There is no confirmation here of the re ported retirement of the rebels from Harper's Ferry. Newspapers from the North, addressed to post offices in the rebel States, are accumu lating in the Dead Letter Office in large quantities. They will have to be sold as waste paper. THE FIGHT AT PHILLIPPI LATER AND CORRECT FARIICULARS. CINCINNATI. June 6. The engagement at Phillippi took place at 5 o'clock on Monday morning. The plan was well laid, but the impetuosity of a few of the troops partially defeated the surprbe and gave the rebels warning. They fled in haste, leaving their baggage, forty horses, four wagons loaded with pinvi sions, and five hundred muskets. Col. Kelly, in charging in advance . of hi men, was shot with a revolver in the breast by a rebel, who had , charge of one of the provision wagons. , The rebels numbered 1,500 men, and were well armed and equipped , Further Particulars. From the Wheeling, Va., Intelligencer, of June 4th. I GRAFTON, June 4.. • An engagement took place this morning, be tween the United States troops and the rebel forces encamped at ,Phillippi. Fifteen of the traitors were killed, and from thirty to forty prisoners secured. A large quantity of provi sions and amunition was also secured. Some forty or fifty horses and about four hundred stand of arms were also captured. None of the Federal troops were killed or wounded. The Secessionists made good their escape. Col. Kelly, of the First Regiment, was badly, if not fatally wounded. GRAFTON, June 3,6. P. M.—Col. Kelly is not so badly wounded as was at first supposed C,ol. W. J. Willey, the bridge burner, is among the prisoners. Seven o'clock, P. M.—Col. Kelly is shot in the left breast. The ball has been extracted. Will report his condition to you daily. Account of an Eye Witness. We learn from a gentleman who left Phillip pi at 9 o'clock yesterday morning and arrived here last night at 11, that the Secessionists were routed about daylight yesterday morning. They were not expecting an attack. They were first fired upon from a battery attached to an Indiana regiment. They fired one shot in return and fled, leaving all their arms, horses, provisions, ammunition, 'c. Col. Kelly with his command was on the opposite side of the town from where the fire commenced. Only two of the Secessionists were killed, and not more than half a dozen taken prisoners, among whom is Willey, who was captured in the woods by Capt. Geo. Robinson. After the Secessionists fled, and Col. Kelly was marching into town at the head of his command, he was approached by a desperado name -mart. Johnson, of Prunty town, who an hi with a in his breast. Johnson was immediately seized, and would have been instantly pinioned to the earth by a hundred b tyonets, but that the mag nanimous colonel ordered the men to spare him. It is thought that had the Indiana regiment delayed fifteen minutes longer in opening the fire, the whole sixteen hundred Secessionists would have been captured. FROM BALTIMORE CITY.
