Horrible Affair in Missouri--Two Men
Arrested fOr Murder
The St: Louis News has the following item:
The most beastly murder we have been -called
upon-to record, was committed nearebambera
burg, in'this county, on the night of the 7th
instant. The lull particulars of-thiS vile affair
'have not been developed, but so much of them
as we have been able to gather are about as fol
lows Whiteford, the murdered'man, owns a
farm near Cliambersburg-- he lives in Canada—
and is a Mall, we learn.'of considerable prow r
ty.

here ; and it is alleged by those birds now in
custody on charge of - the murder, that 'White
ford stole a horse from one of the' party on
leaving for home in Canada, last fall. But
this has not yet, been subdtatitiated, and it is
=thought that there is no ground on which it
can be confirmed. Some little confusion was
created about : the alleged charge at the time,
but soon died away. • A few weeks ago, White;
frird again visited his farm. He was immediate
:ly taken in charge by the clique in question--
without a warrant—ro,answer for horse-steal
ing: A warrant . was finally issued, and one
John Beard--the man from whom it is sup
posed the horse, was stolen.--hitd himself ap
pbinted Deputy Constable, and took Whiteford

"It is' reported that the man was hung and
beaten in the most beastly manner on Saturday
