Richmond papers of the Ist and 2d have
been received here; they admit that Kilpat
rick penetrated within three miles of the
city, and relate how narrowly Lee escaped
capture. Gen. Wise also had a narrow es
cape, being at the residence of the rebel sec
retary of 'war from whence he reached the
city. •
Four hundred more of our prisoners were
shipped on February 29 for Americus, Geor
gia. Nearly three thousand have thus far
been sent there, and accommadations exist for
six thousand.
Forty-six miles of the Mobile and Ohio rail
road were destroyed by General Sherman.
The Southern road was also destroyed from
Meridian to Jackson. Forty-eight hundred
negroes were carried aff.
The rebel accounts of the battle of Olastee,
in Florida, show that their force consisted of
fourteen regiments of infantry, 4 battalions
of cavalry and three batteries of artillery.
Their loss was eight hundred killed and
wounded.

An extensive fire occurred at Pensacola on
the 19th nit. The town is believed to have
been destroyed by the rebels, under the im
pression that our forces designed to occupy
it soon.
The 18th New York cavalry had arrived at
New Orleans. General Banks revibwed the
artillery and cavalry :at Carrollton on the
27th.
CpL Chickering, of the Third Massachu
setts, has been appointed Assistant Provost
Marshal General of Louisiana. .His duty is
to superintend the labor system instituted by
Gen. Banks.
Gen. Weitzel vas expected soon to return
to New Orleans.

The steamer Ocean Queen has arrived from
ASpinwall with $508,000 in specie. The Con
stitution which arrived at Panama on the
26th ult., brought down $1,600,000 in treas
ure,, of which the above sum was for New
York, and the balance for England. The last
British naval . steamer for Southampton took
out $5,000,000 - in treasure.
