A correspondent furnishes the Petersburg Ex
presi with the'reasons that induced Gen. Pryor's
resignation of his commission as Brigadier.
The following is an extract:
"So soon as he wtrs, relieved from command
on the Blackwater reported to the War De-
Partrnent for active duty. He waited five
months in vain , for a command. To a man of
his active temperament such a position was ab
solutely intolerable.
"Hiaimpreme desire was to serve his country
in the field ; and failing to obtain any awn
natce.of a command within any definite period,
no Alternative was left but to resign and enter
the ranks as a private. It is proper to state
that no allegations of delinquency in duty were
preferred against Gen.Bryor. On the contrary,
he has onstplimertteryttotices from all the su
perior ofiliers tinder whom he has served. It
vain be seen, therefore, that the resignation of
Gen.. Pryor was not prompted by pique, whim,
caprice, or offence wfth the Government, but
py a high genie of duty, and a determination
to'render active service in the field."
