It has aireadrbeen slated that the John Un

liaving voted for Mr. Lincoln at the Prebiden
tial election, and on account of his eincomero-
Misting and influential exertions in behalf of
the Union cause since the commencement of
the rebellion. He was a resident of the nt igh•

I not for the grea-er lenity which the decline of
their fortunes has recently induced among the
guerrillas, as well as the so called authorized
I agents and troops of the rebel government, he
would probtbly have suffered death. As it is,
he will be closely confined.
Borne of the paymasters have already started
to the Army of the Potomac, to pay off the
troops for two months, now due. Tae law al
lows forty two dollars,,a year for clothing,
which ordinarily, is a sum sufficient for It ; but
in the rem nt battles the soldiers, by t rder of
their effirers, t crew away some of 'heir eqirip.
Merits, &re in order the better t-t prepare th-m
for the conflict. they have been obliged to draw
for additional supplies ; thus exceerfifq the
legal stipulated amount of money.
In consequence of the lois sustained by them,
they are 'now required to Bettie for the over
drawn sum; therefore their pay will-to ads ex
tent be nowdecreased. Without leapalati rn by
Congreas there is no rem dy for this hardship ;
bat gentlemen connected with the army express
their opinion that the welfare and corn rienear ion
of our troops will not be allowed to suff - er, owing
to their obedience to the orders of their com
manding t ffilers, and that provialons wdl,
dating the next session, be made for their
benefit.
