theran, and Free Baptist congregations, will
unite in holding Thanksgiving services to
morrow morning, at 10 o'clock, in the First
Lutheran church in Fourth street.
Fuss BAP= Cuusott —Rev. J. Colder having
returned to the city will, with his congregation,
participate in the Union meeting at Dr. Hay's
church to-morrow morning. The usual Thurs
day evening services will be dispensed with.
LATEST FROM BUCKS CORM. -Of eleven
Doylestown printers subk et to conscription in
the first class, six were drawn from the wheel
last week. Three - of them were from the Intel
ligence?' office, two from the Democrat, and one
from the Express.
HARVEST Hobs.—The farmers of Susquehanna
will hold their annual picnic at Cold Spring
to-morrow, August the 6th. The excursion
train will leave the Schuylkill and Susquehanna
railroad office at 7A. is. Fare for the round
trip $l. All who wish to spend a pleasant day
at this favorite resort should be on hand.
POCKET PlCECED.—Yesterday, a young man,
hailing from Ebensburg, Cambria county, had
his pocket picked, in this city, of a pocket
book, containing $4O in greenbacks, and two
baggage checks on the Pennsylvania Central
railroad, Nos. 6920 and 8179. If the thief
will return the checks to this office, he may
retain the money, as the trunks are very valu
able.

BRANT's HALL.—This favorite resort is
crowded nightly, to see the talented Hamblin's
-Combination Troupe, whose success has sur
passed any company that has vidted Harris
burg for a long time. A very floe programme
is given this evening. Also the laughable piece
entitled the "Statue Lover," which was re
ceived last night with shouts of laughter.—
Every body should see this very talented troupe.
DEA/TED MEN SENT FORWARD.—The drafted
men, as fast as they are equipped, are sent for
ward to fill up old regiments in the Army of
the Potomac and elsewhere in the field. A
number have been forwarded from Philadelphia
and other places in which the draft has been
completed. In a month or two, therefore, we
may expect to have the entire force called for
under the President's late call, in the field and
ready for an active fall campaign.
Buenos of Orriczns.—At a recent meeting
of Washington Lodge No. 1, I. 0. of G. T., the
following officers were installed for the present
term: W. 0. T., John H. 'Willey; W. T. T.,
Annie E. Felker; W. T., Wm. T. Bishop, Sr.;
W. S, Annie Roberts; W. I. G., Harriet
Ream ; W. 0. G., Win. A. Beilley ; W. M.,
William Evans; W. D. M., Jennie Ilmberger ;
W. B. H. S., Maria Kelley ; W. L. H. S., Maria
Gearey ;W. S , Elizi A. Bishop ;W. C.,
Amelia Major ; P. W. C. T., John W. Young.
BEADY FOR ANY FAINHGENCY.—The draft is to
come off in Schuylkill county this week. Many
of the persons enrolled are miners, and a large
majority of those are foreigners and opposed to
the draft. Thetis said to be the only District
in the State in which any serious difficulty is
expected. The Government, however, is re
solved to carry out the law there as well as in
•every other place, and to that end has been for
several days past assembling at Pottsville a mi
litia force sufficient, it is believed, to quell any.
possible disturbance. By Saturday last two full
regiments of infantry had reached Schuylkill
county, and a battery of six guns. On Saturday
last, Dana's Troop, and a battery of f guns
arrived in Pottsville. The "four gun battery"
was at the battle of Fair Oaks, and the news of
the arrival of a veteran battery iu Schuylkill
county produced somewhat of a sensation.
I===l
A. GENERAL SUSPENSION CP BUSINESS, to-mor
row, is demanded by all that is due as a matter
of respect to the Chief Authority of the land,
and by all that is due, on considerations of
gratitude, love and faith, to the Supreme Ruler I
of Heaven and Earth. All good men desire to
make the occasion worthy of the object to pro
mote which it has been set apart. All Chris
tians must respect it, or be false to their pro
fession. All patriots will do it honor. The
churches of the city will be open, and the pul
pits occupied by those fully prepared to counsel
the people aright on the occasion. Let it be
,Ainderstood, then, that business generally will
be suspended to-morrow. It is a small sacrifice
ito make. Let those who hesitate to suspend
%business for a day, in order -to honor God and
`[secure His aid and comfort fcr the country, re
member that there are thousands who have
suspended business for months and years, and
who have gone to do battle where death rages,
In order to serve the same cause. We 'repeat,
then, that we trust a full understanding kis
been had among our merchants and manufliC-'
imam for a general suspension of busing to-
morrow.
SECOND LUTHERAN CHURCH.—The Pastor of
the Second Lutheran Church, with his congre
gation, will participate in the union meeting at
Dr. Hay's church, to-morrow morning at 10
o' clock . •
No AELERN 6 O3I PARER To-lionnow.—No paper
will be issued from this office to-morrow after
noon. Our afternoon subv.ribers, ho wever,
will be furnished with the Friday morning's
edition of the TEIECIRAPH.
RETURNING Homs.—Several drafted and vol
unteer militia companies belonging to the 172 d
and 37th Penna. regiments, returned home
yesterday. A militia regiment, the number of
which we did not learn, came in during the
night, and is now encamped near Camp Curtin.
THANKSGIVING SERVICES,-0 wing to the illness
of the Rev. Dr. Hay, the services in his church
to morrow morning at 10 o'clock, will be con
ducted by Rev. James Colder and E. S. John
ston. Their respective congregations are in
vited to unite with his in these services.
Hussain Oux.—The 41st regiment Pennsyl
vania militia were mustered out of the State
service yesterday, and many of the men left for
home yesterday afternoon. When the men
return home by squads or companies, transpor
tation is given them by the State to the railroad
station nearest their place of enrollment.
True &UTZ Ml.—John L. Speel, Esq., our
efficient County Treasurer, has paid over $36,000
into the State Trt minty in account of the quota
of Dauphin county for the ptesentiear. This
is within a small fraction of the entire amount,
including the State licenses not yet paid by in
dividuals.
Porno AFFAIRS —Before Alderman Kline.—
The following drunks and disonlerlies eon
fined in the lock-up last night, were brought
before tho Alderman this morning, examined
and discha , ged : Wm. Winslow, arrested by
Chief of Police Campbell ; James M' Vey, E K.
Ellis, arrested by 01ficerCalIendar ; James Oats
and James Boundricks, by Officer Lloyd. No
other cases were before the Alderman since yes
terday morning.
NEXT MONDAY.—As will be seen by an adcer•
tisement in another column, the draft for this
(14th) District will commence neat Monday.
The drawing will take place at the Court House,
and will commence at 7 o'clock, A. M., with the
first sub-district of this county. The " fever
heat" will begin about ten o'clock, when the
wards of Harrisburg will "corne in," and one
fourth of their able bodied citizens "done for."
The draft will be conducted in public, and all
persons desiring to attend, can, if they think
proper, be present to witness the proceedings.
TEN Dais' Norms Givarr.—lt was understood
that on the first of August, the subscription at
par for the "five-twenty" Loan would cease,
but by a recent order from Secretary Chase, it
appears that the Loan is to be continued until
ten days after notice to stop has been given.
So all will have ten days' notice: before invest
ments in these Loans will deae. All persons
can therefore still invest any surplus fund theY
may have in this excellent Loan. Jay Cooke,
Esq., of Philadelphia, is the agent of the gov
ernment in this rnatter, t and he has sub-agents
in this city, as well as in many other cities and
towns in the northern States to make it more
convenient for all persons subscribing.
Loam) SPRINGS NOT CLOSED.—We have the
pleasure of announcing that Gibbon's Loretto
Springs, situate on the Allegheny mountains,
are now open for the reception of visitors.—
This is nue of the most celebrated watering
places In the State, and has no superior.
Everything that can add to the comfort of
guests will be found there. Colonel George
Prince, a prince of landlords, formerly proprie
tor of the State Capitol Hotel, of this place,
has charge of the catering department, and
will dispense the civilities of the establishment
in his complete • style. Half-price excursion
tickets are issued by the Pennsylvania railroad
company, which tickets can be extended for the
season. au4.Bto
Cu-American= or AMERICAN S
PIR/T.—ln one
of our rambles last evening, wrpaseed a house
before which a friend was standing engaged in
conversation witira lady who was . fondling a
beautiful bate. As we pawed on, onr friend
joined us, laughing as he came up, and exclaim
ing that he had just had an exhibition of
American spirit. The lady has tWo sons in the
American army, one with Grant and the other
with Meade, both fighting as well as, they can,
to pnt an end to the rebellion, and "here," said
she, holding op her babe, "is another boy that I
intend to rear to manhood, and tit him to fight
our other bitter enemies, the aristocrats of
England, because as certain as years roll on,
and my babe reaches manhood, he will be called
on to go to war with England, or confess him
self a coward." This is a spirit which animates
the bcsom of more than one American mother,
and the hypocrites of England will live to re
gret the action which ever engendered it. •
MOMS ALTIMED Gl3ENB6CBB.—GreellbaekS of
the original denomination of two dollars,
changed to fifty dollar notes, are now in then
lotion. The two dollar die on the left corner
of the note is smeared over, and the circle in
which are the figures "1," "2," "8," are most
striking defects of these alterations. The circle
in which the figure appears is a certain pre
ventive against alterations, for if it will be re-'
membered the rays all converge to the figure that
represents the size of the note.: for instance if it be
a two dollar note the "2" is white and the rays
are all directed to the "2," if a one dollar note
the "1" is white and the rays converge to the
"1." But among persons not in the habit of
handling the fifties they might very readily be
imposed upon. All the twos on the'note are
covered with a kind of green paint or greenink.
As there are a large (?) number of fitty, dollar
greenbacks in circulation in this city 'daily, it
would be well for those receiving them to be
on their guard.

A German friend, Wm. Hinkle, came to my

Rainbow's Patent Trusses He spoke so highly
in favor of it that, although I bad , purchased a
new spring one but a few days before, I was in

and find it is all it is recommended to be, and
just the thing I hare been wish tug for.

S,G+.OORE REWARD.—LOST.—On
morningtly24,weend
2
o'clock in the morning, a stranger got off the'
cars in Harrisburg, with Carpet hack in hand,
and went into some hotel or drinking saloon
and left it—he don't know where. As it was
near morning he did, not go to bed, but went
out again, and strolled around until daylight ;
and when morning came he had got bewildered
and lost, and could not find the place where he
left his baggage. lie made some inquires for
it in places around the station the next day,
but all to no purpose. The sack was an extra
large black oil cloth traveling bag, partially
worn, with one handle torn off and tied on at
each end with a leather string. It contained
an elegant violin, in good order, of a dark
brown color, with light oblong spots in the
centre of the hoops, and the bow protruded
about four inches out of the sack. It also con
tained two shirts, one a plain white muslin, the
other a red plaid light flannel. Neither bad been
washed since last worn. One light check summer
vest, new pair cotton socks, a lot of smoking
and chewing tobacco, two extra large wooden
pipes, made out of 'laurel root; one had a big
claw cut on it, and the other a double face, with
some lettering on one side of the bowl, and sun
dry other articles, with a medium sized black
writing case. This case contained two paper
shirt collars, a small neck tie, some writing
paper and envelopes, pens and lead pencil. In
one of the envelopes were enclosed two double
portraits, which the owner regrets losing worse
than all the rest, as they were of relatives living
many hundred miles from here. One was a
photograph picture of two little girls, the one
on the right in a sitting position, the one on the
left standing beside her. The other was a me•
lainotype, a man and a wife in a sitting position.
There were also two locks of braided hair, but
neither picture was enclosed in a case. The sack
contained no letters or name to designate it, but
this nescription of it, on examination of in,
contents, is sufficient to identify it amongst five
thousand others. The owner is anxious to re
cover the sack and its contents again, and if any
. person in Harrisburg has got one of this de
r scrlption in their po.si scion, and will leave
it at the TELEGRAPH PRINTING OFFICE
immediately, or wilt give any information
where it_ruay be found and obtained, they shall
have the above reward for their trouble. The
sack belongs to a poor laboring man, who needs
all that belongs to him. Will any one answer

AND TOS FRI&ADS OF BOLDMIO
We call the attention of all having relations
or friends in the army to the fact that "ROOF
LAND'S German Bitters" will cure nine-tenths
of the diseases induced by expoeuris and
privations incident to camp life. In the 16ts,
published almost daily in the rewspapers, on
the arrival of the sick, it will be noticed that
a very large propertion are suffering from debil
ty. Every case of that kind can be readily
cured by Houfland's German Bitters. Diseases
resulting from disorders of the digestive organs
are speedily removed. We have no hesitation
in stating that if these Bitters were freely used
among our soldiers, hundreds of lives might
be saved that otherwise will be lost.
We call particular attention to the following
remarkable and well authenticated cure of one
of the nation's heroes, whose life, to use his
own language, "has been saved by the Bitters:"
Pansinsbeate, August 23d, 1862.
Messrs. zones & Evans :—Well, gentlemen,
your Boofland's Gemini Bitters has saved my

and was for seventy two days in the hospital.
This was followed by great debili y, heighten d
