PROVOST GUARD IN CARLISLE.—Company D, of the 31,t Pennsylvania militia, (Captain Clegg,) has been detailed as a Provost Guard for Car lisle. The company was raised in Idanayunk, Philadelphia, and contains quite a number of gray hailed men, who would scarcely be able to stand the hardships of the field. AGAIN IN OPERATION.—The railroad bridges a'ong the line of the Cumberland Valley road have been re-built, and the 'train which left the depot this morning was to run as far as Ship pensburg. The train advettised to leave at four o'clock this afternoon, runs the whole length o f the road, and will' reach Chanibersburg for the first time since the rebels had possession of that b a. vough, in June last. TILE GOOD WILL PICNIC.—The committee eP pointed by the members of this company, hLwe decided to hold their picnic at Fisher's woods, *AN Friday, the 24th inst. The picnic was advertised to be given on the 20th of June, but owing to the emergency then existing, it was postponed until next Friday. The picnic is to be held for the purpose of obtaining money to make another payment on their uew engin - e, and for this reason we give them a totice in our local columns. Brcomma Sennes.—Considerable apprehen- 1 sion is felt fora supply of bivalves during the coming season. In Baltimore last season they were unusually scarce, and the prices went up about 25 per cent. The packers of Baltimore, in view of the information received from the lower part of the bay that the oysters are nearly exhausted where they have been taken for the past three years, held a meeting and sent agents down the Chesapeake to examine into and re port the facts. They reported that the beds are almost entirely destroyed, and as yet they can not go to the beds in the Virginia rivers. Added to the scarcity of oysters, fully half of the whole number of boats engaged in the trade have been destroyed since the war broke out, and it has become difficult to get caught and brought to Baltimore the oysters that are left In the beds. In view of this condition of things, the packers of that city have declined to make any contracts at any specific terms: I=l TII a FALLEN PENNSYLVANIANS AT GETTYSBURG.— By a dispatch from Chambersburg, we learn that every arrangement has heen made at Get tysburg, by-Governor Curtin, for the removal, on application to David Wills, residing there, of the bodies of Pennsylvanians killed In the late Wale. A map of the battle-field has been made which shows the exact locality of every grave. 2 A list of the wounded and sick Penn sylvanians is also being made, and every facility for the finding of soldiers will be afforded. The trains, however, for the next eight days, will be used exclusively for the transportation of the wounded and sick. Persons who contemplate a visit to Gettysburg for the purpose of removing the remains of relatives and friends, would do well to postpone it for one week at least. Trans portation will be furnished at the State expense for the body and one person to accompany it, Those of the Pennsylvania militia wounded in the late skirmish near Hagerstown will be re turned to their homes as soon as the transporta tion can possibly bo procured. SERIODS RAILROAD ACCID&NT.—Last Saturday, as a train cf cars were passing over the new bridge, recently erected over the Conewago auk, near York Haven, on the Northern Cen tral railway, the locomotive and several freight rs broke through the bridge. Dodge, commanding this post, was presented with handsome meerschaum pipe, last Saturday eve. ning, the gift of several U. S. army and State officers, now stationed In this city. The presen• tation which took place in the parlor of Brant's Hotel, was made on the part of those interested by Copt. J. K. Clement, Provost Marshal. The response of the Captain was brief but eloquent, and loudly applauded. The whole ceremony was filled with interest, and was made more so by the amusing and pleadng incidents related by the Captain and his Mends. The pipe, was selected by Lieut. Opdyke, of tbis city, is a beautiful one, costing $35. GEN. Taos. A. ASSAULT AND BATtEßY—Another case of 48- emit and battery was up before Alderman Kline on Saturday aeternoon. Lawrence Shilp, liv ing in Verbeketown, was charsedi.wiitti.assauft and battery by a neighbor, Mrs. 'Sophia Beltz. It appeals that while Mis. Mfg was engaged ia washing clothes in the yard back of her house, Shilp, without any, just cause or provo caltion, insulted her by uttering vulgar epithets ; but tit being .satiefted with words only, he olimbed over the fence Into the yard, and struck her . on the face. Yet Shilp was' not estisfied by strik.'ng her, and re-entered his house only to a pp e ar in a-more -threatening manner, with a pistol in Mg possession, intending to shoot the defendant - The weapon was taken out of his hands, however, before he could use it, and im was escorted to the Alderman's office by Mr. M'Clintock, lately an extra policeman of this city. Shilp was committed for trial. • `:~---- RELEASED.—Two ladioe reported to Capt. P. I. Dodge, on Saturday, for transportation to their homes, having been taken prisoners at Winchester, Va., at the time Milroy was driven from the place, and since released, when they managed, through some inconvenience to reach this city. One of the ladies was from Union City, Ind., and the other from Wheeling, Va. After their capture they were taken to Rich mond and placed in Castle Thunder, where they were confined until exchanged. One of the ladies, on her arrival in this city, was so over ._ co* with over exertion and fatigue that she could not walk to the office to receive her transportation home, though she manged; . ln company with her companion, to reach the Cars going west, and is, by this time, near her home in Virginia. The ladies fully confine the report of the arrest of many others, with tkemselves, without any pretext whatever, who are still in the rebel prison waiting to be exchanged.
