HAlL.—There bas been hail on several occa
sions in different parts of the country, but so
far no injury bas been dine to the crop , . - This
accounts, doubtless, for the sudden and unex

recently experienced.
Tam Caoss.—Gentlemen who have recently
visited Lebanon, Berko, Lehigh and Northamp

- Tama RETURN Homs.--The regiments of nine
months' volunteers from this State, whose terms
have recently expired, have met with a hearty
reception at their various homes. Our exchanges
refer to the welcomes which these men received
in glowing colors, and give the most graphic
descriptions of their affectionate receptions by
their numerous relatives and friends.
Bov Losx.—The son of Mrs. Vogel, named
Samuel, has been missing since Thursday after
noon last, and all efforts to learn his where

BURG —We learn that twenty-five or thirty re

join their comrades in arms - in tiassadhusetts.
Between thirty and forty will leave Hanisburg
for the same destination in a day or two, the
men volunteering to enter the service rather

AN ITER FOR Sroarassw.—Sportemen should
bear in mind that there is a law on the statute
book of this Commonwealth forbidding the
shooting, under penalty of a fine and imprison:

Bramensuares were plenty in market this
morning, and prices dropped to a somewhrtt rea
sonable figure. The market • opened with the
price of this fruit at taventylve cents a lx;sx,
but before' the market closed the venders were
glad to take fifteen cents per box. Notwith
etanding, the decrease in price, a large number
of boxes remained unsold, and when the market
closed, the dealers in strawberries had enough
left to keep them busy during theremainder of
the day selling them in the streets, before they
spoiled,

of Pennsylvania with the East Pennsylvania

was adopted enunciating some general and fun

between the two bodies in reference to such a
union. The desirableness of ancha:nniole . was
universally admitted, as. one of the best means
of avoiding difficulties between the members,

of the different . synods, promoting a Spirit
of harmony and love among them, and the
more successful development of theacisources of
the vast tetritory now occupied jointly by the

A HEROINII.—A letter from Lake Providence,
La., gives the following scrap of r, rnance : The
First Kansas Regiment, of which have spokeu
before, is encamped near us. Oot of the mem•
hers of that regiment, a sergeant, died in the
hospital two weeks ago. After death his COin
rades discovered that their companion, by the
side of whom they had marched and fought for
almost two years, was a woman. You may
imagine their surprise at the discovery. I went
to the hospital and saw the body after it was
prepared for burial, and made same inquiries
about her. She was of rather more than ordi
nary size for a woman with rather strongly
marked features, so that with the aid of man's
attire she had quite a masculine look. She
enlisted in the regiment after they went to
Missouri ; and consequently they know nothing
about her history. She probably served under
an assumed name. She was in the battle of
Springfield, where General Lyon was killed, and
has fought in a dozen battles and skirmishes.
She always sustained an excellent reputation,
both as a man and a soldier, and the men al;
speak of her in terms of respect and affection.
She was brave as a lion in battle, and never
flinched from any duty or hardships that fell to
her lot. She must have been very shrewd to
have lived in the regiment so long, and pre
served her secret so well. Poor girl! she was
worthy of a better fate. Who knows what
grief, trouble, or persecution induced her to
embrace such a life.

tatitioto for diseases Mira iparille, is reputed to
cure. Such a remedy is surely waved by those
who suitor from Stiumous complaints, and that
one which will accomplish their cure must prove
of immense service to this large class of our
afffic.ed fellow citisene. How completely this
compound will do it-has been proven by ex

PURITY OF IBM STOOD.
This compound will be found a great promo
ter of heaith, when taken in the spring, to expel
the foul humors which fester in the blood at
that season of the year. By the timely expulsion
of them many rankling disorders are nipped in
the bud. Multitudes can, by the aid of this
remedy, spare themselves from the endurance
of foul eruptions and ulcerous sores, through
which the system will strive to rid itself of
corrnptions, if not assisted to do this through
the natural channels of the body by an &Mara
t've medicine. Cleanse out the vitiated blood
whenever yon d its impurities bursting
through the skin in PimplesiteruPtions or soles ;
cleanse it when you find it is obstructed and
siuggish in the veins ; cleanse it whenever it is
foul, and your feelings will tell you when. Even
where no particular disorder is felt, people
enjoy 'better health, and live longer, for cleans
ing the blood. seep the blood healthy. and
all is well ; but with the pabulum of life disor
dered, there can be no lasting health. Sooner
or later something must go wrong, and the
great machinery of life is disordered or over-
Wont.
During late years the public have been mis
led by large bottles, pretending to give a quart
of extract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most
of these have been frauds upon the sick, for
they not only contain little, if any, Sarsaparilla,
but often no curative properties whatever.—
Hence, bitter and painful disappointment has
followed the use of the various extracts of Sar
saparilla which flood the market, until the name
itself is justly despised, and has become synony
mous with imposition and cheat. Still we call
this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend to supply
such a remedy as shall rescue the name from
the load of obloquy which rests upon it. And
we think we have ground for believing it has
virtues which are irresistible by the ordinary
run of the diseases it is intended to cure.
