A Wooden Pingraturne.
It is said that Fernando Wood is petambu
lating New York State, organizing Copperhead
leagues, or E.nights of the Copper Circle, by
which he expects to overturn the War Demo
crats. He is expected, as soon as he accom
plishes that, to promulgate a formidable Peace
Programme, a part of which is to make the
rebel leaders, independent of the Government,
propositions for a truce or armistice. Wood
undoubtedly expects to restore the Union in
some way or other, by restoring the rebel lead
ers to power and place again, granted them all
they ask in regard toslavery, even, if required,
to its extension over all the free States, and
then, that he will be elected President.
In these efforts, Wood has the co operation of
the Copperhead leaders of this State. Peace
petitions are now circulated in Pennsylvania,
wherever there is a Butternut craven enough to
lend his name fo the vile project ; and it is
among the favorite arguments of the Copper
heads to those who went to escape the draft,
thaea "Democratic movement" for peace will
alone ensure that object. The idea is to induce
the acceptance of certain burial sating peace
propositions by the rebels—propositions which
would covenant for an unconditional pardon' of
all mho are or were in arms against the Govern
naeitt, with the recognition of the right of
slavehulderlito employ their property in every
State, the suppression of all discussion in refer
encetolhat institution, and 'the consolidation
of all the debts, growing out of this war, as well'
by those attempting to destroy as those strug
gling to maintain the Government. If such an
acceptance`is segued, theirthe Democracy are
to move aiainst the Government, in conjunction
witlythe rats:lei - land force a cessation of hostlii
