The Pennsylvania Railroad Company w ill prob
ably be eivibled, in a short time, to make a
thorough connection between Pittsburg and
Albany and Boston, avoiding both Philadelphia
and Nuw York. The route will be as follows
Pittsburg to Tyrone, Pennsylvania Central Rail
road ; lyrou, and Lock Haven (in progress,)!
Tyrone and Lock Haven Railroad ; L9ck Haven
to WiLiarri sport, Philadelphia and Erie Rail
road ; New York to Elmira, Elmira Railroad;
Elmira to Binghamton, New York and Erie
Railroad ; lii ngbampton to Albany (in progress,)
Albany and tiLnqiiebanni. Railroad ; Albany to
Boston, Western Railroad.
The total distance from Pittsburg to Boston
will be about 650 miles, of which the Pennsyl
vania Central Railroad will control over one

inst., for having deserted from the Ninth Maine
Volunteers. Therebels returned the deserter
to the federal Rues, on the plea that a man
who d.serts could not be trusted. Of course,
the poor wretch was tried, convicted and shot
for his offence. There was a trick io this re
turnhor of a deserter becoming of the rebels.

six wagon loads of mail matter, books, pamph
lets and papa's, have been sold and destroyed
at Bowling Green within Nile last month. A
large portion of them were tent for the use of
the sick soldiers. Who ate the persons that
c( mad' ted the outrage? Under what author
ity and fur what parpose was the thing done
And what has become of the money received
for what was sold ? Answers to these questions .

stantly made for reading matter to be furnished
to the thousands of sick soldiers at Bowling
Green, and yet hers "at one fell swoop," the
results of the generous and benevolent labors
of many men and women for the promotioeof
the comfort and amusement of the poor 'suf
ferers are ruthlessly destroyed I •
