HARRISBURG, PA
Monday Evening, December 1, 1882
TOWN AND COUNTRY.
THE DILAFTBD MIIM in Camp Franklin, near
York borough, on Wednesday last, indulged in
a mutiny, during which, shots were exchanged
between the guard and themselves, but no
one on either side was injured. They had all
better reserve their fire for the traitor foe.
A STATED lliKerixa of the Friendship Fire
company will be held in their Hall on this
evening, at the usual hour. Every member if
requested to be present, as important tnsiness
will be brought before the company, and nomi
nation of officers for the ensuing year.
MOVRNINTS OF THIS DRAITYD MRN. —A full
regiment of Infantry and part of a Cavalry re
giment marched from Camps Curtin and Mc-
Clellan yesterday, and were sent over the
Northern Central Railroad, bound for a point
of which of course we are ignorant. The
drafted men will soon all be marched from this
vicinity, and placed on duty elsewhere.
Ir you WANT Pills, take Ayer's Pill. Nothing
has ever appeared in this market that can com
pare with this new invention for abasing out
the distempers that fasten and grow upon us.
They are the Philosopher's elixir of life, that
bids defiance to disease, and will leave us no
alternative but to die of old age.
Reader, if you want a mild purgative for
children, or one powerful for adults, take
Ayer's Pills. They are sugar coated and pleas
ant to use and are e, ell enough known to be
gond, without our recommendation.

DEATH OF A HABEIBBURGBIL—We learn by a
private telegraphic dispatch received in this
city lest evening, that Second Lieutenant Harry
. Lnlz, Capt. Davis' company, 7th Pennsylva
nia Cavalry, died at Nashville, Tenn., yester
day. Lieut. Lutz had been ill for a day or two,
anti was in the discharge of very arduous duty
at the time, which tended to aggravate the
disease which has proven so late). Lieut.
Lutz was well known and highly esteemed in
this city, as well for his personal virtues as for
those personal traits of manly characser which
win and retain the respect of mankind. The
memory of Lieut. Lutz will be among the bright
recollections of those who loved and will mourn
his death.
P. S.—By a dispatch received last evening
by the Mayor, we learn that Capt. C. C. Davis,
left Nashville yesterday morning in charge of
the body of Lieut. Lutz, and will arrive here
to-morrow.
DIRECTORY OF THE lIOSPITALB.—The Sanitary
Commission of Washington City have issued a
circular, announcing that they have established
an office of information in regard to patients in
the Hospitals of the District of Columbia, and of
Frederick City, Maryland. By a reference to
books, which are corrected daily, an answer
can, under ordinary circumstances, be given by
return mail to the following questions :
Ist. Is [giving name and regiment]
at present in the hospitals of the District or of
Frederick City ?
2d. If so,
what is his proper address ?
841. What is the name of the Burgeon or
Chaplain of the hospital ?
4th. If not in hospital at present, has he re
cently been in hospital?
6th. If so, did he die in hospital, and at what
date ?
6th. If recently discharged from hospital
was he discharged from service ?
7th. If not, what were his orders on leaving
The Commission is prepared also to furnish
more specific information as to the condition of
any patient in the District hospitals, within
twenty four hours after a request to do so, from
an (Meer of any of its corresponding societies.
The office of the Directory will be open daily
from 8 o'clock, A. M., to 8 o'clock, P. M., and
accessible in urgent cases at any hour of the
night. The number of patients in these hospi
tals is about 25,000. If found to be practicable,
the duty here undertaken locally by the Com
mission will be extended to include all the
general hospitals in the country.

ARRseT or DESERTERS.—The business of ar
resting deserters from the ranks of the drafted
men, has of late become a profitable business
with the Provost Guard. The plan of the
drafted men who desire to escape the service,
is to leave the city, seek some of the near sta
tions on the Pennsylvania or Northern Cen
tral railroad, and there take the trains for
Whatever locality they desire to reach in order
to cheat the government out of the service
they owe. This has been carried on to such an
extent, and the service suffered so Beverly in
men, that the most stringent measures have
been adopted to frustrate the designs of the
drafted men and arrest all who are detected in
the act of deserting. The stations of Dauphin
and Rockville, on the Pennsylvania and North
ern Central railroads are favorite points for the
congregation of deserters. These deserters walk
from this city to these points, because the depot
in Harrisburg is patrolled by the Provost Guard,
making it impossible for a soldier to enter a car
without a pass. Lately, however, the Provost
Guard have been detailed for service beyond
this city and put on duty at the different sta
tions alluded to, and the result has been ; the
arrest of large numbers of the drafted men
when deserting. On Thanksgiving Day sixty
were taken at Rockville and Dauphin. Yester
day fifty more were arrested in the same ,vicin
ity. The arrests at the stations east of this
city are also numerous, so that the Provost
Guard have been driving a very useful as well
as profitable businees.
Iltuntipluattia Malt tlegrapti, itlonban Owning. Member 1, 1862
IN T NANA of the sick and wounded of the
Cotton Factory Hospital, those in charge de
sire cordially to thank the many friends who
have so zealously and successfully labored to
make Thanksgiving Day what it was designed
to be—a day of enjoyment as well as of reli
gious worship. The thoughtful men and wo
men who have suggested and carried out the
idea of giving to those for the time deprived of
their home, as many of its pleasures as possible,
will not be willingly forgotten. The ladies
who loaded our tables with good things to eat,
but who would shrink from publimmention,
even could the long list be here inserted ; the
gentlemen who addressed us in the day and
evening ; Weber's orchestra and the choir of
one of the churches, for their excellent music,
and the bright faces and busy little hands for
their presence and ready assistance, will al
ways be gratefully remembered by those who
have so largely experienced their considerate
benevolence. "Inasmuch as ye have done it
unto," etc.

STERLING'S AMBROSIA
FOR THE HAIR.
A HANDSOME HEAD OF HAIR is a crown
1 - 1 of glory. With proper care and culture
it will last as a protection to the head as Tong
as the nails do to the fingers, or the eyelashes
to the eyes. Brantaxo's Ansnoste is the only
article yet discovered that will bring about the
desired results. It is a preparation the result
of Feience and experiment ; the science point
ing out what was needed, and experiment find
ing the required properties in certain roots, barks,
and herbs. It has consumed a long time in its
preparation, has been tested by persons of most
undoubted reliability in this city, and is by them
pronounced perlect, and the only satisfactory
article, and is now offered to the public. The
proprietors, determined to give it the most
thorough tests, practical and chemical, and now
certain that it will make the hair grow luxuri
antly ou Bald Heads, Preventing Grayness and
Baldness, Reinvigorating and Beautifying the
Hair, rendering it soft and glossy.
DR. STERLING'S ARBROSId is a stimulating,
oily extract of roots, barks, and herbs, and,
aside from its neatness, permanency, and gloss,
it is medically adapted to preserve and add to
the beauty of the hair. The only article yet dis
covered that will Cure the Disease of the Rea*, and
cause the flair to Grow.
CERTIFICATES
This is to certify that about eighteen months
ago, 1 commenced using STERLING'S AMBROSIA.
My hair was short, thin and rapidly falling out.
I had tried many Hair Tonics, Invigorators, &c.,
without receiving any benefit. Soon after using
the Ambrosia, my hair ceased falling out, and
commenced growing so rapidly as to astonish
me. Now my hair is thick, soft, and glossy,
and is five feet four inches in length—when let
down, reaching to the floor. This wonderful
result I attribute solely to the use of STERLING's
AMBROSIA, as since I commenced using it I have
applied nothing else to my hair.
