Tltc Importation of Bags iron: tho Mediterra
nean, hides from Brazil, and other commodities from
ihc tropics, is known to bring the germs of disease,
chiefly fevers, which are sometimes very afflicting
and fatal. Aycr's Ague Cure stimulates the Liver
to excrete these germs from the system as effectual
ly as it does the miasmatic poison of our Ague dis
tricts. Consequently it aiiords invaluable protec
tion to stevedores and others whose occupations ex
poso them to these dangerous infections ; and we
hope to render tuctn a valuable service in giving
them this information.— Xew York Despatch.

How TO MAKE "HARD TIMES." — A good
way to make "hard times" is to refuse to
pay all bills although you have the inonev
in your pocket—push men to pay you who
haven't the money ; if a man don't meet
your obligations just at the time they be
come due, report that he is about to "bust;"
cut down the wages of your*hainL before it
is accessary ; keep-back everything from
market until the prices get up at starvation
i rates ; use money in speculations that you
should pay your creditors with ; forget that
unnecessary retrenchments increase hard
times instead of bettering tlieiu ; carry a
long face, aud talk mournfully of evils to
come ; do these and other acts like them,
and, "hard times" will surely come, liow-
I ever little cause they may be for them.
Every editor of a newspaper will j
appreciate the truth of the following pas
sage from the writings of Captain Maryutt. ;
"It is not the writing of the leading arti- j
eles every day or week, whether inclined or j
not, in sickness or in health ; in ufiliction, |
disease of the mind, winter and summer, !
year after year, tied down to the task, re- j
maining in one spot. It is something like ,
the walking of a thousand hours. I have j
a fellow-feeling, for I know how a periodi
cal will wear down one's existence. In it
self it appears nothing; the labor is not j
manifest: nor is it the labor, but it is the
continued attention which it requires, your
life becomes, as it were the publication.
IMPORTANT TO THE TOBACCO TRADE. —The
Conimisn'er of Internal Revenue announces
that, hereafter all smoking tohacco. fine cut
chewing or snuff, shall lie taken and j
deemed as having been manufactured after |
the passage of the act imposing taxes on 1
j distilled spirits and tobacco, tqiprovt d July
I 20, 1808, and, therefore, shall not be soli I
or offered for sale unless put up in packages
and stamped as provided by the act, under
penalty of a fine of not less than five hun
i dred nor more than live thousand dollars,
J and imprisonment for not less than six
months nor more than ten years. Dealers
in the weed should take due notice of this
and save themselves from vexatious prose

the Wyoming Metallic Paint, and have great pleas

Probably never before in the v. hole history of
medicine, ous anything won ro widely and aoilecpiy

! remedy for pulmonary complaint-. Tiirongli a long
series "of years, and among most ol' the races or
men it has risen higher and higher in their c-unm
„ | tion, as it has become better known. Its tmiform
character and power to cure the various affections
[) of the lungs aiiu throat, have made it known a ■ 11 c
j i liable protector against tlr*m. While adapted to
milder forms of dueae and to young i hildreu, it is
. at the same time the most cflectu.il remedy that can
' I begiven for incipient somsimllw, and the dan
gerous affectionsof the thro.it and lungs. Asapro
) ! vision against sudden attacks of Croup, it should
be kept on hand in every lamilv, and indeed as all
. are sometimes subject to colds and coughs, all
should be provided with this antidote for tliein.
Although settled Consumption in thought in
curable, still great numbers of cases where the dis
) ease seemed settled, have been completely cured,
and the patient restored to sound health by the
Chirr;/ Pectoral. So o mplfcte it its mastery
. over tlie disorders of tbe Lungs and Throat, that
' the most obstinate of tin'in yi 'ld to it. IVbeii lioth

Siiiyirn and Public Speakers Hud great pro

Asthma is always relieved and often wholly

i | Bronchitis is generally enrol by taking tho

' 8o generally are its virtues known that we need
