Bake in an oven moderately hot CURE FOR FROSTED FEET. —I send tbe following receipe for curing frosted feet which may b3 acceptable t% some your re ders : Make a strong solution of alum, and bathe the feet in it half an hour each night jost before retiring. A boy whose feet had been frozen three years before, and were still very sore and tender, was cured after bne week's use of the above solntion in tbe manner indicated. CHRISTMAS PLUM PUDDING, —A pound of suet, cut in pieces not too fine, a pound of enrents, and a pound of raisins stoned fonr eggs, half a grated nutmeg, an ounce of citrod and lemon peel, shred fine, a teas poonful of beaten ginger, bait a pound of bread crumbs, half a pound of flour, and a pint of milk; beat them together and by degrees stir in the flour, then the suet spice aoq fruit, and at much milk as will mix it, together very thick; then take a clean cloth, dip in boiling water, and squeeze dry. BREAKFAST PUFFS— Take one pint of milk, one of flour, two eggs, a lump of but ter the size of an egg. and a pinch of salt Place the flouf in a basin, put tbe batter in the center of the flour, break in the eggs, and work the butter and eggs together thoroughly; then gradually add the mlik, mixing all together to form a smooth bat ter. The puffs may be baked iu a cast -iron pan with small divisions. Butter the pans, and fill them about two-thirds full with the batter and place in a quick oven- They take but a few minutes to bake, are light and excellent. Springs are little things, bat they are sources of large streams; a helm iaja little thing, but itl governs tbe coarse of a ship; a bridle-bit is a little thing but see its nse and powers; nails and pegs are little things but tbey bold tbe posts of a large building together, a word, a look, smile, a frown are all little things, but powerful for good or eviL Think of this,*and mind the little. Pay that little debt; if it is a promise, re deem it; if it is a shilling, hand it over. You know what important events it. Keep your word sacred; keep it to children they will mark it sooner than any one else and the effect wil probably be as lasting an life. DRINKING AND MOWING. —Lewis and Sam D ,a couple of residents of Long Island, who lovd rum and hated snakes, some years since went down to tbe salt marsh to mow. They bang their scythes and were about commencing work. Lew is proposed to Sam that they should drink of the quart furnished for the occasion,— Sam agreed of course, as it was a hot day, and tbey concluded to real awhile under the shade of a tree, and then take another drink in order to get readily on. The bottle had been passed two or three times when Sam said to Lewis, let's drink the darned stuff up and we won.t be hsnkerine after it." It was a bargain, and balance was soon disposed of. A pause ensued; Lewis rose to his feet, threw bis scythe over his shoulder, declaring. "I'll be darned if I'll mow without rum."—"Darned if I will either," says Sam, and with that they trudg ed home without cutting a swath. ▲ RXAL CHARM. As a rule we discountenance tbe use of 'charms' either to avert or to remedy evils; but here is one we can recommend : A young English farmer found his means seriously reduced. He consulted s friend, who gravely said: "I know of a charm that will cure all that. Take this little cup drink from it every morning of the water yon get at such a spring But remember you mast draw it yourself at five o'clock or the charm will be bro ken." Next morning tbe farmer proceeded across his fields, for tbe spring was at the further end of tbe estate ; and spying a neighbors cow, which bad broken through the fence and feeding on his pasture, he turned them out and had the fence mend ed.' But the laborers were not at band ; they came loitering in after the proper time, and were startled at seeing |"master" so early, "Oh," said he, "I see how this is; it comes of my not getting up in time." This early rising soon became a pleasaqt habit; and his example was followed by the rest of the people about the faim.—Things soon took a different torn no that when at the close oi the year, with a laughing face he thanked bia friend tor the charm, be felt that tbe plan suggested was aa efficaci out as it was simple. fliscellanefius.
