1868, have been received by X. J. Kceney, Prothono
tary, and are now ready for distribution. Justices
of the Peace and others entitled to them can get
them by calling on him at office.
Vendue, , „
H. W. Pattoa, of aionroe, having sold his iatm
preparatory to going West, will oiler his personal
property at Public sale by Vendue, on Thursday,
Oct. 22,1868. The property consists of Horses, Cows,
Hogs, and the usual stock of farming utensils and
household furniture.
Jack Frost made ue an unexpected visit, In
this region, on Wednesday evening of last week.and
seemed to be lingering until Thursday evening. The
tops of some of the tender plants furnish evidences
of the lact that Jack has been around, though we
believe no great injury was done to the crops.
Snakes,
It is said that snakes are so charmed, when bro't
under the influence of music, as to be rendered per
fectly harmless. If this is true, there will be little
danger in future from this species of reptile, should
L. B. Powell, of Scranton, continue to flood the
country around him with musical instruments, as
he is now doing.
The River Bridge at this place Is being
pushed forward by Col. Marcy, the contractor, with
commendable energy. The stringers for the first
span are being put on the false work, and the pier
Is well nigh Completed. If no accident occurs to do
lay it, the bridge will, wo are assured be ready for
crossing In sixty days.
Another Mass Meeting.
The Democrats of Forkston, in this county, pro
pose to hold a Democratic Meeting in that Town
ship, between this and the day of the general elec
tion. The dime, names &c. will probably
be announced in our next.
A Utile more Cider.
As the season for making cider has arrived, and
as our friends may be looking about for the ma
chinery to fix up their press, we call attention to
the fact that Cider Mill Press screws, of the most
approved pattern, are maufactnrod at O. D. Gear
hart & Co'B Foundry, at this place.

J. S. Swisher and C. S. Fargo, we learn, are
about openiflg up new St<ft-e at Keiscrville. Mr.
Swisher, one of the Arm with whom we are acquain
ted, is an agreeable young man.—
We bespeak for them a liberal share of the trade of
that region.
Railroad matters.
The Railroad bridge pier and the north abutment
are now finished,nd the foundation for the remain
ing abutment laid.
Mr. Morgan, who has the heavy dirt fill for the R.
R. south of the bridge, is driving his work on with a
large force of men and teams. Mr. T>. Wright, who
has the till on the north end of the bridge, will have
his work finished in a few weeks at farthest. The
rails which are now laid up as far as LaGrange,
(Osterhout'a Mills,) will probably be laid to the
lock below this place within the next three weeks.—
That point, which is about a mile from the eentre of
town, will be our station until the completion of the
bridge, which will probably occur late in the season.
Noisy,
tVe occasionally hear "a sound of revelry by
nlght"—which does not indicate that all goes on as
merry as a marriage bell —but, that somebody has
become most outrageously drunk. Wo wish,for the
credit ami the quiet of the town, those who feel that
they must drink to keep up their healths, would
take a kind of bitters not so strongly tinctured with
wild cats and screech-owls.
Mammoth Squash.
Mr. Simon Armstrong, of Overfleld, presented us
the other day, with a squash which measures up
wards of four and a half feet in circumference. We
did not weigh It, but feel certain, from the tug we
had in moving it, that it Is a very meaty specimen.
We might add that the vine which bore It was
nourished by good Democratic soil, and cultivated
by hands that always deposit democratic tickets.

The latest fashion for ladies is a style of walking—
howling the body forward at ap inclination of about

- ..ck rope. It is much in vogue in the cities, but
trust that country ladies are too sensible to ac
; t this decree of Queen Fashion, although they
have adopted one by one, every other ridiculous no
n others heretofore. We saw it stated a week or
