Removal.— The Burns Bros, are about removinj
their Jewelry Store and Dental Rooms, to thei
new and commodious quarters on Tioga St. Tbei

be one of the most elegant and attractive in town.
A Consoling Fact for the citizens of our town,
is, that the drouth— which for the past six or sever
weeks, has only been interrupted by one sligh
shower— having pretty much used up the " gardei
sags " has also been very severe on the weeds.-
Our gardens are quite free from these cumberers o
the ground—as well of cucumbers.
Finished.—The Kail Road bridge abutment ot
the north side of toe creek at this place, is now fin
ished up to grade, and the work on the pier am
south abutment is being vigorously pushed forward

Rail Road to turn up.

A Break In Ihe Canal occurred on Monday
last, a short distance above the Falis creek, which
it is said, will require ten days or two weeks lulo
to fully repair A singular fatality seems to attend
this canal. The bad condition of the Horse-ract
dam which had occasioned several days' delay
had but just been remedied.
A Good Thing, sad almost indefensible t<
owners of stony and stumpy tarms, is Lyon's paten
Rock, Stone and Root Bigger. We lately witnessec
a practical exhibition of the virtues of this machine
on the farm of P. \V. Ke Jfield E-q.,—which, we re
gret to say, furnished abundant grounds for its use
by F. A. Ward who has the machines and right foi
sale. This machine with two men and a yoke ol
oxen will do the work ola score of men, root ami
rock diggers in the eme time. At the presenl
prices and scarcity of farm labor, farmers should
consult economy by employing this great labor -sav

A Bear Hunt,--Mr, Ezra Thompson, of Monroe
Township, ia this lounly, souie time siice, discover
ed evidences of the existence of a bear on cider run,
a branch of the Bowman's creek. Mr. T. who has
been a successful hunter and trapper from his youth
set a trap for it which he fastened, as usual, with a
heavy chain. A day or two after he found that
bruin bad found bis trap, and being caught in it,
had broken the chain, and with the trap which
weighed 24 pounds, bid left for other quarters.—
Mr. Thompson, and his son, with Joseph Blossom,
Ziba Sickler and Christopher Whitlock, with two or
three days rations in their knapsacks, pursued with
their dogs and guns Following the trail, which
they were enabled to do by the marks of the drag
ging trap, for two_d*ys, they overtook bruin near
the head waters of the Xlohoopany and Bowman's
creek about 15 miles from the place of starling
The trap was still clingiog to the fore paw which
had become'eonsiderably swelled. He shewed fight
from the first, and on being approached by young
Mr Thompson, turned upon him in an angry am)
threatening;manner. He leveled his gun upon him
and attempted to fire, hut it tailed to go off The
bear continued to approach. About this time, Kvra
the lather came up, and seeing the danger to which
the son was exposed, took fatal aim, and fired. The
"varmint" of course, surrei lered He was up
wards of 7 feet in length aul weighed nearly 500
pounds.
